I enjoyed this game a lot. I was a part of the "survey" team many moons ago, and I've been looking for it since then. When I saw it on Tomorrow's Game Today, I grabbed it! It was a real bonus that this weekend there is a 2-for-1 sale on!
* The storyline is very good.
* The game play is very good.
* The puzzles are the best blend of search-and-find, deduction and intuition I've seen for a long time in these 'discount' games.
* I liked the difficulty level a lot. Some things are easy, others not so much, and still others make you stop and think before moving on - and it's all nicely interwoven to make it challenging but NOT frustrating. That's because the answers are intuitive, that is, they make sense. The game is not made challenging through illogical and nonsensical leaps; but rather cleverness and creativity.
The sound was good. The graphics good. I did not encounter any glitches at all.
ASIDE: I think it is a real credit to BigFish and the other developers that people generally don't bother to note a lack of glitches anymore. It's just expected. KUDOS guys.
I liked it. I recommend it.
I recommend this game!

Loved this game. It wasn't hugely challenging by any means and it went by too quickly (a bit short). That said it also seemed to race by because I enjoyed it so much.
Humour! (oh I cannot overstate the importance of humour)
Story! (oh I cannot overstate the importance of a good story)
Fun. Fun. Fun.
Will definitely look for more in this title. I truly hope there is a sequel. We have to explore the ramifications of what happens at the end because that princess is no pushover. Fool's gonna have the time of his life.
Oh! And we have to see more of the guy at the beginning, Can't remember his name right now, but you gotta love his sarcasm and clear doubt about the Fool's ability to NOT get eaten by the dragon.
Loved. It. All.
I recommend this game!

So far I've bought all the games in the Dream Chronicles series. I am not looking forward to the next and am not sure that I will buy it at all.
I know for certain that I will not buy the Collector's Edition (CE) unless a whole lot changes.
The One Good Bit: *It carried the story forward (however minutely and frustratingly)
Mostly Bad: * The game was far too short for a CE * The game was far too easy making it even shorter (see problem 1 above) * We were further shortchanged on the "extra" gameplay * There was virtually no interacting with the backgrounds * The dream jewels were in short supply * There was even a shortage of the stones to place in the dream jewels so even the simple pleasure of hunting for them was eliminated in this instalment * We were mostly confined to one room of every building, one world-scene in every world * The whole game felt like it was put out just for profit with no regard to what gamers had come to expect and enjoy
It is clear that these last two games (Air and Water) should have been one game. And packaging this as a CE went beyond the pale. If (the rumoured) Book of Fire CE comes with this same nonsense, it and this earth, will burn to a crisp before I spend good (or even bad) money on it.
I don't recommend this game.

I took off the star-and-a-half, only because the ending was ... a little strange.
The gameplay was good; smooth with no bugs that I can recall. The story was good, the length of play more than adequate. I can do very hard puzzles but don't crave them. These were again adequate for my purposes; not easy by any means but not scratch your head for hours either.
The ending though was unsatisfactory. Everything happened really quickly, some of it didn't make sense and the story wasn't tidied up.
It's still worthy of the time taken for play, and at BFG prices it is worth the cost. Just not head over heels for this one.
I recommend this game!

Not only is this game an example of story-telling at its fantastic best, it is a great blend of easy, intermediate and higher level problem-solving.
The solutions to the puzzles are all intuitive. This naturally makes the puzzles easier to figure out. What challenge there is, is in finding the stuff to realise the solution ... and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
Also, (I believe) Benoit Sokal intended his story to provide the real pleasure/entertainment of this game. I believe this because the tale IS so lovingly crafted. Whether or not that was so, for me, the purpose of solving any puzzle was so that the story could move on.
I was fully invested in Kate's journey from the moment those automatons marched down the street in the funeral procession. I have played it over more than once (with Syberia 2), just so I could experience the story again...like watching and re-watching a movie that you love.
As to the more technical details:
* Kate runs and walks too slowly (this was improved in Syberia 2). There is a lot of going back and forth. In an adventure game that is expected and again, intuitive. But because you have to talk to a lot of people more than once, visit places more than once, AND Kate moves slowly (the real issue), it could become a bit tedious. That said, the story was worth every retread flagstone.
* The graphics, the cutscenes are beautiful - especially considering when the game was made. The rendered backdrops are beautiful. The entire game is beautiful.
* Gameplay is seamless and bug-free. Clearly everyone involved in this game was invested in its excellence.
I first played this game many years ago and waited impatiently for Syberia 2. I bought and gifted several copies (including the DVD version) before coming to BigFish. I have gushed over it to friends and family alike, and do no less for those of you who made it to the end of this review.
I absolutely, without reservation, recommend this game.
