I admit I'm old and I like old school. The King Arthur storyline is an excellent one, but why all the modern computer, scientific equipment, evil thief business we've seen all too often of late? It ruins the game for me. I've only played for one hour and already I'm bored with it. What's wrong with Celtic mystery? What's wrong with an archaeological dig? Why not draw us in with history and mystery and magic? At present, I don't recommend the game as I find it boring and derivative.
If you will notice, most of the reviews here are from 2012, nine years ago, when Dire Grove was first released. This is 2021, and this game is still considered one, if not THE, top CE game of all time. Buy it. You'll play it often. FYI: Sacred Grove, which was touted as its successor, cannot be recommended. One has naught to do with the other.
Top quality graphics. However, players should not be fooled thinking this game all takes place in the jungle. Most scenes take place in a diner, a garage, a barbershop, a dead end street, HELP headquarters. Very little mystery. The storyline is clumsy and the game itself way, way too short. I found the puzzles occasionally confusing, but they can all be skipped. Overall, I found far too much techie action in the game and far too little rainforest mystery. Two credits wasted on this tiresome game.
Meh. I cannot recommend this game. Boring, senseless tasks with common objects. Far too much modern computer tech activity. I much prefer beautiful fantasy games with jeweled objects and clear storylines. Perhaps I am too old to play and/or enjoy games such as this one.
Great little game! It reminds me of the games from a few years back---the ones with mid-level mini-games, the ones we still replay. The storyline isn't especially noteworthy, but the hidden object games are each a bit different. Most important, the game isn't a mess of confusion that requires constant use of the Hint button. League of Light is definitely a series I will continue to buy. More like this would be well received.
Like others here, I loved the old Hidden Expedition games. This one falls decidedly short of that high standard. The puzzles were confusing, the storyline illogical, the pace slow. However, since I intensely dislike sci-fi computer HOGS, it is difficult to make an objective judgment for or against the overall subject and structure. I kept using hints to determine what to do next, and I dislike that. I'll not be playing this again.
Like many others here, I love Dire Grove, and still play it. I tested the Beta version of Sacred Grove back in July, was not impressed, and hoped the game would be improved in the final version. It appears unchanged. I especially enjoyed playing Dire Grove's puzzles, so I am not a fan of such puzzles as Sacred Grove offers here.Fortunately they can be skipped. And what happened to the morphying items we loved? I have no idea still how to access the alternate ending to Sacred Grove, but I doubt it would hold any more interest for me than the present game. Too much hand-holding in this game, far too many cut scenes, too many characters, silly and boring storyline, and no spooky atmosphere at all. Part of Dire Grove's charm was its atmospheric winter winds and sound effects, contributing to one feeling alone with the banshee in this frozen town. Alas...
Without warning, a group of mysterious figures arrives and reduces your village to flames and rubble. What do they want... and who is controlling them?

The game wasn't terrible, just forgettable. The storyline was predictable, the action uninspired. Far too much video. I bought it based on the review, and played it once, but I'll not play it again.
Really enjoyable game. Puzzles are challenging at times, easy at others, and can be skipped. I found the strategy guide very helpful--as I have a short memory--and I doubt I could have managed the game without that help. (Good for experts though.) The graphics reminded me of the Dark Parable series (Briar Rose)--easy to see and click-click operation. I bought the next one in the series as well. Can't wait to play that!
This 70-year true love story is wonderful game play. Not terribly challenging, but relaxing and absorbing. I love this whole series; what a fine change from the dark and disturbing.
