Meeting the parents holds a whole new meaning here, especially when you learn that your father-in-law to be is none other than Count Dracula himself and also your abductor. Apparently Daddy is not too pleased when his only son has turned his back on the family business of blood sucking and holds you responsible. Point of view is switched and you now are Enron, only to discover that daddy dearest has taken Emily and will be turning her into a night-walker so that you can return to the fold and all live together as one big happy family. Playing as both Enron and Emily, it’s almost like you are playing two adventures at the same time by switching from one character to the other which is rather cools as it actually prolongs the game and makes it much more interesting.
I wasn’t a fan of the graphics or the animations which at times appeared a bit amateurish, at times you get cartoonish artwork and then at times sharp and more life-like; almost as if a group of artists were involved, each with a different perspective on the over-all look of the game. I did like the artwork but found that the animations were poorly done and there was a lack of ambient sounds and special effects which made the game really look a bit dated. There are voice-overs but minimal and the music is soft and quiet in the back-ground. Nothing really pops with the overall look of the game and sound and visuals could have been better.
Dark Romance is a standard HOPA game with extras that certainly actually makes the game more appealing. Main menu offers three play modes along with customized settings. Unfortunately black bar tips cannot be disables and so you do get some hand holding throughout the game. Tools include a journal and a map which will allow you to jump as well as indicate areas of interest. The SG is on the left and thankfully the photos and texts are easy to make out. You have your broach on the right with photos of Enron and Emily which you require that you switch during the game in order to play both heroes.
Game mechanics involve picking up inventory items, playing interactive Hidden Objects scenes that are junk-piled and solving a variety of mini-games along the way. I enjoyed the HO scenes which were standard but there was interaction involved. You also have the option to switch over to a M3 game which was slightly cumbersome to play. Puzzles and mini-games were actually well conceptualized and interesting to solve, I did enjoy some of them. Then there are your extras and plenty of them: you have collectables, items pertaining to Vampires that are indicated in a book. You have bats and garlic which transmute into currency that can be spent in your interface shop and also renovating the castles exterior. You also have a list of achievements that mostly involve Hidden objects scenes.
I gave this game four stars as I enjoyed the game play but at times found it confusing as when to switch over to the other character. There are no WOW moments to be had and no great challenges. Slightly out dated but does have a slight fun factor to it. Overall I enjoyed the storyline and game play as it got more and more interesting. Not an outstanding game but definitely a purchase for me as there is a great sell on today and in my opinion, definitely worth the time, especially for fans of vampire romances.
I recommend this game!

The popular series has returned with yet another classic fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. Our story takes place in Alblasserwaard, a peaceful town in Holland that is suddenly disrupted by the appearance of the legendary Sky Kingdom that is virtually floating above them. Once again you are the famous fairytale detective and are summoned to rescue the townsfolk from what appears to be some rather disgruntled giants from the above. This time you have help and that is where Jack, the infamous treasure hunter comes in and together your adventure begins.
I have to say that the graphics and visuals are just stunning in this game however there is no wide screen option which naturally will ruin it for some.. As always with these developers, beautiful artwork, a lot of ambient sounds, sharp graphics and animations that really bring this game alive at your fingertips. I love just looking at the scenes, the details and the music and voice-overs are relatively good. Visually this game has much to offer, and for fans of fragmented hidden objects scenes, this game has plenty to offer. Unfortunately for me, I am not a fan of the FROG.
Game features three levels of difficulty and they can be customized via game menu. If you are a fan of the Dark Parables series, then you are familiar with the various features like morphing objects that will charge your hint meter faster, a collection of parables that complete the story in your journal, a task list and a map that surprisingly enough does NOT allow for travel, so be prepared for some backtracking. There is no journal here and a lot of clicking around trying to find inventory objects to pick up. The most curious thing about this paticular game is I do not have an SG and as far as I can see, it is nowhere to be found on my system which will be yet the second thing that decides for me to hold off forth SE of this game.
Storyline, sights, sounds, artwork, mini-games and puzzles are all very well done but with no jump map, no journal, no SG (at least for me), no collectables or achievements (there are morphing objects in every scene) and alot of eye-straining over crowded and tedious fragmented objects scenes just does not make this game sit well with me this time. I will wait for the SE!
I recommend this game!

These Developers are no strangers and have been around for some time, producing exceptional games that always promis to entertain. Unfortunatley I am disappointed with today's game, and found nothing entertaining about it.
What is up with all those sparkles and glints? Seriously, is it a glitch or are we taking hand-holding to a new level? Despite the fact I chose advance mode of play, I see sparkles and glints and arrows everywhere and the fun just died along with the game.
I will be truthful and say that I am no fan of the story either. So my husband is a journalist that I love and respect, also the Father of my twins. Suddenly my Father is dead and hubby is arrested and what do I do? I marry the third wheel who incidently was my Father's partner in crime. And so our story continues by traveling into the comatose mind of my ex to find out where my twins are and what really happened to my husband. Ok so the story isnt that bad but still, I really dislike the woman for having married the other man. Where is the love?
A very classic HOPA with cartoonish one dimensional graphics that are sharp, voice-overs and I liked the music in the background. Game features only include a journal and that really is it. You have standard hidden object scenes that are not interactive, basic mini-games and alot of back-tracking to do picking up and using inventory items.
Had it been not for the sparkles, the glints, the constant poking at you to go here or there, I may have enjoyed the game for what it was: a classic HOPA. Needless to say I will definitely pass on this as my eyes need shades to play this game. I really think these developers need to keep up with the times.
I don't recommend this game.

What looked to be a very standard HOPA game takes a turn to becoming interesting and had it not been for one very annoying feature, I would definitely consider buying it. The theme of today’s story is unrequited love and vengeance of a broken heart. We receive disturbing news about the disappearance of our niece following her marriage and our help is needed to investigate. As her uncle, we arrive to find ourselves head to head with an eccentric artist who is also in love with our niece and who has the capability to bring alive his creations that seems to be terrorizing the town. Graffiti that come to life attack our efforts and soon it becomes a cat and mouse chase to save our niece from a demented mind.
Graphics are good, sharp resolution with hand drawn scenes that at times is a bit cartoonish. Voice-overs are minimal along with special effects. The one really annoying thing about the game is the sound you get when you click on an area of interest. That sound became really irritating that I opted to turn down the volume which really spoilt the game for me. Sorry developers, but seriously that sound just ruined the entire game for me.
It really is too bad because I did enjoy the mechanics and game play became interesting after the first half hour. You are equipped with a journal, a paint palette that is needed to mix up special paints to overpower your opponent’s creations and a map that allows for travel as well as indicates areas of interest.
Game play is standard HOPA with a variety of Hidden Object scenes that include silhouettes to find, twelve of the same items to locate and replacing objects back into the scene which does excuse the fact that each HO scene is re-visited twice. There are mini-games that are interesting but relatively easy to solve and a lot of backtracking is involved, but you do have the map to help you out.
There are extras that include collecting birds which in this case have absolutely no reference to the storyline and there is a list of achievements. Incidentally, the list of achievements includes playing all three levels of difficulty and one is completing the game in less than four hours which tells me that it really isn’t that long of a game.
Fatal Passion for me is very standard and too predictable. There are no WOW moments and I really did not feel that the extras are worth the extra pennies. I suppose a good sale on CE would be more prudent but that annoying special effect just really makes me hesitate for now.
I recommend this game!

Alfred Hitchcock would have had a field day with this game. A Murder of crows, missing people, an evil sorcerer and an old legend that comes to life as you uncover the secrets of Green Hill. Your adventure begins with a frantic call from your niece whose boyfriend has gone missing. You arrive in Green Hill only to discover that crows are terrorizing the town, attacking citizens and causing them to vanish. A sinister man in a black feathered cloak is behind all this and he is on a path to vengece so have fun with all of that.
The graphics are stunning, very good artwork and animations, sharp resolution and great sound effects. It shows that the developers have put tremendous work into the sound and visuals, all enhancing the game experience.
You have three settings for difficulty but unfortunately you need to set it at hardcore in order to get rid of all glints and sparkles. There seems to be a tad too much hand-holding in this game and the level of challenge is low.
A standard HOPA with hidden object scenes that require you to take action with objects and unlock puzzles within the scenes. There are a variety of mini-games but alas, most of them were quickies that really dont require too much effort on your part to solve.
There is alot going on, backtracking is involved and you have your classic adventure going on as you pick up clues along the way. Your tools include a journal which also has film reels to review, a map that will allow for travel and indicates areas of interest. You have your mystical amulet which you will need once you find all the parts of the missing crystals.
There are 34 squirrels to collect throughout the game along with 9 figurines as well; all very easy to find. There is also a list of achievements to earn.
Visually I loved everything about the game hwever I found the gameplay just too easy and predictable. Still, great effort has been put into technical effects and the story, a bit of a fairy tale does carry itself. It isnt anything we havent seen or done, but then that seems to be a rare thing these day where games are concerned.
A solid four star game with alot to offer and as I did only played the demo, I think that it will be a favorite amogst those who enjoy the storybook tale of the three guardians. I just wish there was a bit more punch in the gameplay which is really why I cannot wholeheartedly give away the extra star. To be honest I found the game all together a bit forgettable but perhaps enjoyable for the here and now.
I recommend this game!

It is certainly refreshing to take on the role of a male hero which will definitely please some gentlemen users out there. Our tale today begins with a cryptic letter from your brother-in-law. Years have passed since the tragic death of your sister who once upon a time ago lived with here husband Emmet in a little village called Reghin. The letter requests your immediate visit along with the invitation to meet with your sister, which is rather chilling news. So off you go to the town of Reghin where your adventure begins and it looks like it involves dead people walking. Alchemy, murder and the supernatural all play a role and so far the demo certainly delivered a most thrilling time.
The graphics are sharp and I really liked the artwork, hand drawn scenes with using vibrant colors that actually camouflages the sinister elements within the game. You don’t have the dark and dreary tones here but you do have the cartoonish quality of the graphics which makes the game appear less threatening.
You have three levels of difficulty to choose from as well as the option to customize your settings according to your own preference which is a huge plus for me. Your tools include a journal and files, a map that allows for travel as well as indicates areas of interest. The map actually is a huge help since I discovered that there is a lot of backtracking involved in the game. This is a standard HOPA game with the usual inventory list of items to locate, hidden object games to play and puzzles to solve. Hidden object scenes are also very standard, a list of items to locate with some interaction involved. The surprise is the choice to play a jigsaw puzzle instead which was an interesting alternative and will ultimately make the game longer. I enjoyed some of the mini-games that I came across, although I found the directions could have been better, games were well conceptualized and actually some were even challenging to solve.
As for extras, you do have a couple here that may peak at your interest, you have collectables such as gold coins, crystals and zoo animals which made me scratch my head. With you coins, you get to purchase crucibles and panels which unfortunately I have no idea what they are for or why I need to go to the shop to buy them. I suppose I will find soon enough. Then there is your set of achievements to earn as you play.
Surprisingly enough I really enjoy the demo and found many hidden challenges involved in the game play. It is not as easy as it looks and I did manage to get stuck in a couple of places. Although there isn’t anything new or innovative about this game, the story certainly deserves to marks as I a eager to find out just who is our villain and is my sister actually alive. Not an outstanding game but certainly a game well worth the extra coins and time and besides, something tells me that zombies are part of our storyline and who doesnt love the walking dead?
I recommend this game!

Myths of the World have proven to be one of the more successful series and with its third installment, Spirit Wolf, these developers continue to produce an excellent Collector’s Edition game. Our story’s theme deals with Native American culture which always holds a fascination with me. As an expert in Native American Symbolism, you are summoned to investigate a mystery involving glowing glyphs that are suddenly appearing at the Center of Native Culture. As you make our way there, you notice that your own amulet, a family heirloom, is also glowing. There seems to be some sort of connection between you and what is occurring at the center and your adventure begins with your first encounter of the Spirit Wolf.
As always, I love that these developers use sound and special effects to enhance the overall gaming atmosphere. The graphics are good and art work very well done. Although I did notice that the resolution was not as sharp as I would have liked it to be. In comparison, I thought that the first game, Chinese Healer was done much better. Nevertheless, as we begin our adventure, you have four levels of difficulty which can be customized to your own personal settings of choice. Game play is your standard HOPA with extras that at times are distracting but nevertheless does make the game a bit more interesting.
Your tools include a journal, an amulet that requires you to locate tiles and use it to remove symbol barriers and binoculars that help you to see far away. Hidden object scenes are varied, standard list with interactions required and silhouettes of items to be found. Mini-games are well conceptualized and some are even time-staking which I prefer. In this game, you also have the choice of playing the Bubble game which was not as easy as I anticipated. I love the bubble chain but this one does have a challenging quality about it. In addition to all this, you have sun symbols to collect, all 35 of them and you also have a list of achievements as well as a souvenir room to attend to.
Overall I found the game entertaining and it does look to be rather time consuming. Still, the first of the series remains a favorite of mine when it comes to visuals, but still Spirit Wolf is much better than the second game which was geared more to family entertainment. I do however love the Native American culture and look forward to unraveling the mystery that lays before me.
I recommend this game!

About 30 minutes into the game I had already decided what the title of my review would be; Nyet!, which means No in Russian. A tiny piece of advice to the developers, if you are going to name your characters Jack and Emily please avoid the heavy Russian accents or just use Russian names. Our story is begins with two young lovers camping out in the middle of nowhere when suddenly a dark and shadowy figure attacks and kidnaps the young lady (of course it would be the female) and takes her to an abandoned Military Bunker. Your mission begins and you have to rescue Emily but then you discover that there is a mad scientist behind this and I am sure interesting things will probably await you once you get inside the bunker but I really didn’t bother to get that far
Graphics are old and tired looking, a lot of browns and sepia with some graininess in scenes that actually enhances the atmosphere of the game. You will discover that although you choose the harder of the two modes of play, despite what it says, you still get sparkles and glints all over the place. A very classic HOPA game with emphases on hidden object scenes that are re-visited, a lot of pick up this or that and too much hand-holding as black bar hints are constantly in your face.
To be honest, I got as far as (spoiler alert) feeding a mouse to the trapped rattle snake when I decided that this game was not for me; just too familiar and too dated as well as absolutely no challenge whatsoever. You have no map, a journal and a hnt button that points directions. Despite what the game description says, mini-games are classic and nothing we haven’t seen before. Actually I have to say, rather than using the word old, lets just say this game is a classic and for those who enjoy HO scenes, beginner and just nostalgic, this game may be worth a credit. As for me? I say Nyet and will just move along my merry way.

Our story takes us to a manor in Scotland deserted by the living but occupied by the dead. As a private investigator, your case involves searching for the missing heir the old estate and upon arrival, you find yourself involved with a group who call themselves the Fellowship of the Thistle who are sworn to fight darkness. Get ready to battle the dead in Shadow Shelter.
I was excited at the opening scene when the narrator begins his story and I found myself facing dark graphics, relatively good artwork and a very creepy atmosphere that I usually love in a game. However as I progressed I found the darkness was too overwhelming, preventing me to appreciate the sites and sounds around me. Main menu offers you two levels of difficulty which you can adjust during play. You have your inventory list at the top of the screen which I don’t particularly like, a journal with a list of objectives and notes as well as a very simple map that does allow you to jump from one scene to another.
I encountered one Hidden Object scene after another which in my case is a bit much. The scenes are dark and packed making many objects very difficult to spot. There are two types of hidden object scenes, one that gives you a standard list of twelve items and the other are small hand drawn pictures of items to find, which also proved to be difficult to make out. There is the element of surprise as things jump out at you and sound effects are not bad. Darkness prevails in this game and after a while I found myself just clicking away at anything and usually got lucky. As you find yourself wandering about, clicking at objects and trying to use them, you find yourself lost in the game and the story pretty much gets lost as well.
After about 45 minutes of game play I found myself tired and a bit annoyed. I did enjoy the odd special effects; the life-like images that pop up from nowhere and wild animals jumping at you. But after a while too many hidden object scenes, the overall poor lighting and the ambiguity of what you are trying to do just got to me. I really did not come across any mini-games and if I did, I probably could not see them properly.
Shadow Shelter is a fair attempt as what might have been an excellent game. I pretty much played through it to know that it really is not for me. The game seems to lose itself in the dark and unfortunately lost me as well.
I recommend this game!

Ghosts, paranormal activities and paintings coming alive, who are you gonna call?? As lead detective, you are summoned by a secret organization, the Order of Light to investigate recent paranormal activities that have taken over the town of Smallville. Upon arriving, learn that Locals are either going mad or fleeing town as evil begins to spread as the deadly sins start manifesting in their behaviors. Your adventure begins and your main mission is to capture the pesky ghosts and for that you have a special device called, what else? Ghost Catcher and there are apparently 35 of them roaming around.
Main menu offers three levels of difficulty to choose from which you can change while you play; unfortunately sparkles disappear only in advance mode. Graphics are good, not brilliant, and resolution could have been a bit sharper. Good artwork, lots of colors and hand painted scenes; again, all good but not brilliant. I liked the music and voice-overs are well done, especially our narrator at the beginning. There are minimal special effects and animations are a bit stiff. Game features include a notebook, a special device for capturing ghosts and a map that allows you to jump.
I noticed that there are many collectables and achievements to earn throughout the game. You also receive points for performance while playing Hidden object scenes and there is a score sheet in the menu. Adventure gameplay is standard, searching for clues, picking up inventory objects and catching ghosts. Hidden objects scenes that I have come across are standard; a list of objects with minimal interactions. I like that the collectables come in series, there are prints, fruits, etc.
I like this game and was pleasantly surprised when I wanted more after my demo trial period ended. As I said, visually it is not spectacular but definitely interesting as you go around catching ghosts and picking up your collectables. As my wallet is a bit strained this week-end, I will have to take advantage of any CE sale available and definitely add this game to my collection. I liked it; it looks good and plays smoothly. My one pet peeve was the language; some of the translations are a bit off. Not exactly the Ghost busters, but is interesting enough for those who enjoy a decent adventure. Many may find this game not very challenging but I have to say that the achievements and points is a clever incentive to play carefully.
I recommend this game!
