If you know Mia Faircroft, you know these folks, too. Just some random thoughts - 1) Yes, many of the objects are very difficult to find. As a matter of fact, without the magnifier this game would not be worth the effort. 2) My eyes can barely handle the strain of playing for very long due to the difficulty of finding such small objects that are only partially visible and sometimes hidden in the dark. This is a game I can only play for short periods of time before I have to exit and play something else that is a lot more eye-friendly. 3) Lots of dialogue (just like the Faircroft games), but mercifully there is an option to skip it for the gamers who don't want to slog through it. 4) Varied puzzles and most of them are fun and enjoyable. 5) The fun facts you find with the "?" are fun and interesting. 6) This game is worth it to me since there is a good sale right now. Would probably not pay full price for it though. 7) It's a huge plus that the magnifier stays with you until you release it with a right click since it's needed to find objects in every HO scene (IMHO). I see the star ratings for this game are all over the place. That makes it difficult to gauge what the game is like; but it's a good idea to try the trial version most of the time anyway.

Hopefully some of the gamers who submit very detailed reviews will show up here. I don't do that type of review. I have a few M3 games that are like this. I think they are among the best M3 games on Big Fish. This game was a definite buy for me. I don't care a whole lot about a storyline in a M3 game like this, so whether or not it's good or bad doesn't concern me much. Game play is of paramount importance. I am not having any problems with the graphics, so I guess you'll just have to try the trial version to see for yourself. To me, this is a M3 game that thinks outside the box which I find very engaging.

This is not a comprehensive review of the game. Some others who are excellent at that will come along with in-depth detail. I bought this game at the end of the 1-hour trial. I have other games like this, but I always want to make sure a game will play on my laptop before I hit the "buy" button. I bought this game for a couple of reasons - the terrific sale price (I wouldn't pay full price) and I really like the variety of games offered for each location. I don't play timed games, so this is purely a "kick back and relax" time filler for me. A couple of things bug me about the magnifying glass. I would prefer that it be a bit larger. The worst thing about the magnifier is that if you are using it and click on an item, you lose it and have to back down to the bottom of the game screen and pick it up again. That drove me a bit nutty at times when I was looking for 2 or 3 items. I would prefer a right mouse click to release it at my discretion. Overall, I like the game and at the sale price it was hard to pass up since I like games I can just chill out with and not burn up my brain cells with pressure play, although you do have the option to play this as a timed game.

I bought this game since there was a really good sale for the weekend. I have one other game from this series. I've noticed something about some of these reviews (and with other games as well) that there are people who fuss about not understanding something or being confused by something. The majority of the time I have found that people just don't read the directions/tutorials. For this game some folks fussed about not knowing what kind of critter to look for. It's very simple. In the instructions at the beginning of the game it says to hover the cursor over the counter on the left side of the screen to see what critter(s) you are looking for. If there are 20 critters in a scene and you have found 10, the counter will read 10/20. Hover your cursor over that number and you will find out what types of critters you are looking for - just like the instructions told you. If I was a developer and made instructions very easy to understand and then people left negative comments just because they don't read the instructions - well, I would be very irritated. Also, in reference to spiders being called critters and upsetting some people, I've always referred to spiders as critters. One thing about these games, they give a wide range of "critters" to look for. Not everyone is going to be happy with every choice. That's usually the way it is in life - you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, BUT you can never please all of the people all of the time. Chill out and just enjoy the game, warts and all. AND, when all else fails - pay attention to the instructions/tutorials. They are there to help you.

I wasn't going to leave a review on this one; but the more I play it, the more I knew I needed to input my 2 cents worth. I own all the Faircroft's Antiques games. At first I, like everyone else, was horrified by the amount of dialogue and there was no way to skip it. The devs took a hint and quickly gave the gamer a way to skip the dialogue, although now I read it all. I have come to feel some attachment to Mia and her adventures, sort of like with the park rangers in Vacation Adventures. I really like some of the mechanical changes in this version - like the 6 ways to find objects (silhouette, word scramble, image, riddle, etc.). I do agree that the addition of inserted dialogue during a HO scene is a step too far by the devs considering how much unhappiness there has been about the over abundance of dialogue already. Having the ability to magnify a hidden object scene is a good thing with this particular game. You either click on the magnifier + symbol in the bottom right corner by the hint picture, or do a double click on the scene to magnify. Right click to drop the magnifying glass. I will be looking forward to Mia's next adventure.
I have a few of the previous M3 games by this developer. I quit buying them since they were too similar and I cringed every time I heard "stage complete" for some reason. I agree with others who have said that if you own one or two of these games, you didn't need to bother buying any more because they were all too similar to one another in too many ways. You can spot these games a mile away just by the art work in the tiny thumbnail picture next to the title of the game. So I was ready to go on to another web site, but then I decided to read the reviews. I agree with much of what was said, but was encouraged by the observations that there are improvements in this game. So, I downloaded the trial and gave it a whirl. The sale price was so terrific that I hit the "buy" button at the end of the hour. That's a good combination - an improved game and a great sale! And, there is not an irritating voice saying "Stage Complete" which is another plus! If it wasn't for the reviews, I would have clicked past this one, based on my previous experiences with these games. I'd like to give it a 3.5 star rating if I could.
I have all of the games in this series. They never ever fail to please. Spellarium is brilliant. This developer always adds new elements that are terrific. I hit the "buy" button pretty quickly. If you are new to this series, read the detailed reviews and the excellent help feature in the game itself. I have fun trying to figure out the new features without reading the help book, but every now and then I have to peek and read a little bit. The mini games are always fun, too. I like the new one where you place tetris-like pieces. Games this good don't come around very often so it's always a little celebration for me when I see one of this quality.
It's true that this is not a match 3 game. I've run across this type of game a few times in the past and have always enjoyed them, so I was happy to see a version of it on BF. The story line isn't really terrific, but it's a way to introduce the type of "tiles" you will encounter. One thing I really like about this version is that there are several types of tiles offered. This isn't a game I would play for hours at a time, but it's the perfect game to play for a while between HOs and TMs. Last night I played a wonderful TM game for several hours without stopping, so this game would be a welcome change before I dive back into another TM game. A few days ago I had 15 minutes to kill before heading out to an appointment so this game would have been a perfect time filler for me if I'd had it in my Game Manager. I know most of the reviews are downers, but I would encourage people to give it a try before passing it by based on low star ratings.
As I write this, there are no other reviews. This is not a comprehensive review. I find this game to be slow, clunky and irritating. I'll just mention two or three things here. Concerning the resources - you have to click on each one to collect it. It would be so much nicer if you could just pass your cursor over each one to collect it. I don't like a clickfest. Also concerning the resources, sometimes the icon of the resource to be collected is shown above the building, below the building or beside the building. Consequently they are often difficult to see because they are in different places and often they are hidden behind other things (such as an upgrade arrow). What a mess. Too much of the time I had to just sit and wait and watch the workers do their thing - so slow. If I had 2 workers and wanted to upgrade to 3, it took a while to get the resources to get more workers. The workers seem to move slowly enough that your only defense is to have many workers, but that takes time and resources from other needs - like constructing buildings or making repairs or upgrades. There isn't any way in the world that I would pay the price to purchase the CE edition. If I thought about buying it at all, it would be the SE with a coupon that was about to expire because I find this game to be too frustrating. Three stars is a generous rating from me for this game.
I am really enjoying this game. I have the first one, but not the second one in the series. I purchased this one after playing a few levels. I noticed some complaints about the tutorial and not being able to turn it off. The tutorial doesn't bother me, but that donkey and having to take care of it is a royal pain. I hope it is nowhere to be seen in the next game in this series. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it is a huge irritation, at least to me. Different strokes for different folks, apparently. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating is because of the donkey. Other than that, it's a 5 star game for me.
