This game attempts to be a hybrid match 3/rpg and fails at both. The match 3 battles are incredibly simple. Match fire/lightning to attack or match health potions and shield to defend. Repeat AD INFINITUM. Supposedly there is also a quest/story to this game. The introduction was one sentence before it threw us onto the level map. I was bored out of my mind after three battle rounds.
If strategic match 3 play with an actual story appeals to you, there are at least half a dozen games eminently superior to this game, beginning with Puzzlequest, Puzzlequest 2 and Puzzlequest Galactrix. Don't waste your money on this one.
I don't recommend this game.

I would recommend against buying this game CE. I played the demo on Advanced difficulty and the journal provided said I had completed 40% of the game in under an hour. This game is not challenging at all. In said hour of gameplay, I encountered 3 hidden object scenes and 3 puzzles. This game appears to be primarily adventure, and like I mentioned earlier, a rather easy one at that. The storyline to this game is also pretty weak.
On the positive side, the production value is quite high. Graphics are good. Music is a bit repetitive and to be honest, I found the voice acting rather awful, but that could be a matter of personal opinion.
The CE offers pretty standard fare: achievements, strategy guide, wallpapers, screensavers, a bonus game and repeatable match 3 games from what I remember. There's nothing there I'd care to pony up extra for.
I don't recommend this game.

Back in the 90s, there was a ton of really excellent city builder games. There was Pharaoh set in Ancient Egypt, one set in China and a whole series based on Ancient Rome called Caesar. I grew up playing these games and utterly adored watching the little walkers roam my roads bringing all kinds of goods to my city populace. I coaxed my little city people to build pyramids and the Great Wall of China. I marched my legions of soldiers against hordes of barbarians who invaded my city map occasionally. The levels were often really hard too, some taking hours of playtime to beat.
Ancient Rome 2 somehow stripped all the fun, the LIFE out of this strategy game concept. The levels are horribly easy, take 5 minutes tops and each level is a carbon copy of the last one with perhaps one more production building thrown in. You can't even bulldoze the trees on the map. Instead of advancing your player dynasty through history, your reward for playing is slowly building a Roman villa. Snore.
