Excellent value! I'm loving this game. It seems to go on forever! It's always sad when you get to the end of a game, and you're like "Wait, is that it?" You won't have that here. The puzzles are challenging too, so you'll get hours upon hours of a brain workout. I can't really comment on the story line as there's too much time in between dialogues for me to know what's going on. But it doesn't matter, just complete the puzzles without mistakes and you're good. No penalties that I've noticed for using hints. And, I've definitely needed them... Great game, definitely recommend to anyone that enjoys this type of puzzle.
I recommend this game!

I've never played a game like this one before, and it intrigued me. However, I'm only to the 12th level of the "easy" challenges and I'm having a difficult time getting 3 stars. Typically, puzzle/strategy games are my favorite because I like the brain workout, my brain is tired playing this one! I'd definitely recommend if you like this type of challenge.

There isn't anything good to say about this game. If I was a child or maybe when I was first getting involved with PC games, I might've enjoyed this. But, there are so many better games out there. I played 4 "levels" and that was about all I could take... Save your money and your time. Not worth the bandwidth to download..
I don't recommend this game.

I loved this game beginning to end. The bonus content adds hours to the game play. The storyline is consistent all the way through. My favorite was the little helper, an owl named Gears; I wish he had a bigger role in the game. Other than that, no complaints here.
I recommend this game!

I knew right away that I would really like this game. The graphics are lovely, and the soundtrack is nice. The interactive HOS are challenging without being tedious, I only used the hint once (on the same HO, lol) in each of the two times I played through it. The puzzles weren't terribly challenging, a few just seemed like busy work to me (a lot of swapping or turning tiles). There were a couple things I thought could use some more attention; more back story on the subjects of the portraits would have been a nice bonus (given the title) and earning an achievement or bonus content for finding all the morphing "beyond objects" would have made it even better. It took me about 5 hours to play the game and bonus chapter the 2nd time. All in all, I enjoyed this game and I'll probably play it again soon.
I recommend this game!

This game was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it. I was almost discouraged from buying it when the first real puzzle stumped me and the walkthrough only gave the answer with no explanation. Thanks to the fishies in the forum, I got an explanation that helped me figure it out. The rest of the puzzles were more clear in their instructions, you burn a hint to see them, though. There's a click penalty for 3-4 wrong clicks in a row, which I don't get since the game isn't timed. Other than that, no complaints here. This is the type of HOG I actually enjoy. Most of the HOS are interactive, some were a puzzle on their own. The challenge level isn't unpleasantly difficult. You will, at times, have to actually think and sometimes really focus on the screen but, don't be afraid to use the hints (since there's no penalty and they recharge quickly). The story is fun and the dialogue had me laughing at times. I really hope there is a sequel, the ending left me wanting more!
I recommend this game!

My review is based on the SE. I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the game as part of the MCF series. By itself, if having not played any of the others, I probably would've liked it a lot more. The game is way too short, especially for the file size. I should've known since I completed the trial 1st chapter in less than 30 minutes. It was a complete surprise that it took me only 2 more hours to complete the game. I found it lacking in puzzles and interactive scenes. I liked the HOS being spread out like they were, but I agree that putting them in a small window was not good. And, some items that aren't needed stick out like a sore thumb, poorly placed, while some needed items blend in a little too well; I had to consult the walkthrough once because I knew what I needed but couldn't find it, and I still needed a screenshot to see it even after I knew where to look. The acting wasn't so bad, I thought that the actors portrayed their characters pretty good. Some of the cut scenes, I felt, were only there to add to the spook factor and didn't complement the story or the game at all. I don't really like jumping from my seat during a game, but they were fairly predictable, so I knew when to look away. This game could be great if there was more to it. There are too many holes in the plot, the story needs more details. I think that if there had been more attention and effort put towards conveying the story and making the game as interactive (or more) as previous MCF games than on those block puzzles, more people would have found it more interesting and enjoyable. I hope that Shadow Lake has another chance to give players more background into the characters and events leading up to the player's arrival. All in all, it was a little too predictable, the map and lack of interaction made it seem shorter than it probably is, and I felt like I couldn't connect with the story or the characters. I hope the next in the series has more puzzles, more back story, more well... Just more. I would recommend to players unfamiliar with MCF. Lastly, to BFG: if you're going to force the credits on us, make sure there aren't any typos first; I'm pretty sure spell check would have caught ASSISTAND.
I recommend this game!

I love this game! I've played it through twice, and I can't get enough. I love the challenge. There are achievements to earn and restore points let you learn a little bit about the history of the civilizations you are playing. The only problem I can think of is that I'm no good at it until after my first cup of coffee soaks in. I prefer this to the other games in the series, only because the tiles are better.
I recommend this game!

This review is based on the trial version. I really enjoyed the challenge presented by the puzzles in this game. I think the concept of the game is great, I didn't like the graphics or sound, however. It reminded me a lot of playing old Nintendo games. It would be a wonderful brain teasing puzzler if the graphics and sound were more appealing. That is the only reason I won't be buying this game.
