I don't write reviews often, but in this case I have to because it doesn't happen often to me to come across such a gem.
The atmosphere is simply beautiful. The story starts in a contemporary setting, Emma's office at Fears for Sale, clean, sobre, more on the technical side. But the story is full of suspense and never lets you down. The story unfolds, Emmas investigations lead her out of town to an old manor first, and while she grabs deeper back into the past, the surrounding gets more and more rural, lonesome and abandoned.
The graphics are top notch, without those colours yelling at you. It feels more like a quiet winter morning. You can see the clouds moving in the sky. The soundtrack adds a lot to this I can say. Sometimes it is completely silent, sometimes just piano notes or a grumbling noise in the background. It's a bit melancholic.
HOS are not my kind of guilty pleasure, but objects were big enough for older eyes, no one was trying to torture me and scenes varied a lot but were all serving the story. There are not many games out there, which enable me or make me want to follow the story. Here it all made sense. The dolls, I mean I couldn't help but had to laugh everytime they appeared, so this added to the joy.
As a reference I liked the following games with a similar atmosphere a lot or even more:
- Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek - Shiver: The Vanishing Hitchhiker - Infected: The Twin Vaccine - Haunted Hotel: Charles Dexter Ward - The Lake House: Children of Silence - Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome - Hallowed Legends: Ship of Bones - Motor Town: Soul of the Machine - Resurrection: New Mexico
A lot of thanks to the developers ! And Happy Gaming to everyone.
I was very much looking forward to a game with such good reviews. I played it to the very end, although I didn't like it.
For me this game has no soul, no atmosphere. It is all about technical things. No charme, no mystery at all. It's like someone sat at his/her desk and thinking about how to summarize all of today's game know how and deliver it in this game. This was soooo boring. Not a single inspiring, likeable, humorous or scary moment, whatsoever.
I would rate 2 stars because the games technical issues are all fine (graphics, sound etc.).
I didn't like the graphics at all. So it's hard for a game to please me from the very beginning. Too colourful, not clear enough. Just plump. As plump as the playing. Not sophisticated at all. Very crude.

This game is a kind of gem for me, because about 90 per cent of all games have this medieval or fantasy playground, which meanwhile bores me to death. Although some of them are great, I prefer the more realistic and nowadays settings.
So if you liked the "Vanishing Hitchhiker" oder "Infected" or the "Ghosts of Marple Creek", this game might please you as well.
I do not need Hidden Object Scenes and found them quite difficult in this game, had to put my glasses off and position my head/eyes directly in front of the screen.
But the atmosphere of the game was so great and really reminded me of the above mentioned games, which I like most.
Gameplay and hint system are smooth enough. I would recommend to test it, because it's all about atmosphere.
This is actually my only big complaint: I didn't like this overly colourful, baroque graphics at all. It's difficult to look at and see at least something.
As to game play this makes it also difficult to differentiate between areas of interest or information or things to pick up. Just too overwhelmed with gold and pink.
It is not always like that, but after having played the demo version, I am quite aware that I prefer something clear, sober, clean/dirty, even GREY would have pleased me better.
The things you collect all look the same. No difference between all those amulets, medaillons, pendants, locks, symbols and keys.
And, hard to believe, returning in the HOS. Everything golden, pink and jewels and amulets and silver fragments dying you to death.
I would rate 2 stars because in spite of this I feel that this might please others, and because it is not bad-crafted.
A long-forgotten artifact has just resurfaced, and the race to claim it will cause a devastating war. The only thing strong enough to stop it is one woman's promise to the man she loves.
Sad to say that, because I love long games (as long as they are good). Someone said that the story took place in India. Really ? It was impossible for me to identify a location. Could have been anywhere.
Even within the game it was hard for me to remember the different locations, because most of them had such a similar look and atmosphere and a big lack of diversity. I had to rely on the map.
I prefer games with unique and diverse locations, so that I can always remember them and don't need the map.
I have no general problem with getting back and forth as long as I know what to do. Which was - for me - simply impossible with this game.
The story is thin. And 90 per cent of the action consists of collecting artifacts and symbols, which look quite similar. Using one somewhere just means to get another...
This made me tired.
But something funny (or have I been dreaming): Three of the main characters looked like some famous actors. Penelope Cruz, Luke Evans and Liam Neeson.
I only played the demo as certainly many others will do (Catch of the Week) and tried to like it but found it to be boring.
Three issues:
- I liked the PUZZLES a lot ! These were fun. I think it's not true, that instructions are bad or not existing. Press the "i" (for info)-button, and instructions are short but as clear as in any other game of this type.
- I did not like the LOOK at all. It's bombastic, oppressive, unclear and monotonous. Whenever I was looking forward to a new scene I got disappointed because it looked exactly like the other ones before. Too much violet, gold, pink and dark blue for me.
- I missed a story line that hooked me. There was none at the begínning and none developping later.
I didn't play the original Mme Fate game, maybe that's the reason why.
I would recommend to play the demo. This might be a very good game which I missed because I didn't like it.
Played this game also multiple times. I found the atmosphere overwhelming. I love it, dusty ways, with not much on it.
Here are grazy ways also to move on: To get to the other side of the town or village, you have to enter the balcony of a special house, let yourself down with the help of a rope and so on, and again and again. No transporting map.
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
I really love this game and played it several times.
But it is somehow difficult to describe: what is it ?
First it is the atmosphere. It's like leaving your house, or leaving a train, with not much of expectations, suddenly standing on a lonely bus-stop. Of course it's raining...
The ambience is realistic which I like most.
The music - which normally is of no importance to me - is addictive.
I had to use the hint. But not so often.
There isn't anything really scary about this game I would say. But it's not the kind of game to play with your children.
