Starting out with when you get to a point where you can clear some brush with a flare gun, GET THE BATTERY FIRST, otherwise you have to restart the game.
I love this overall saga - Rick Rogers starts an agency, saves Rachel Cowell from herself, gets new people on the team, disappears while on a mission. I even love the new team, with Rachel as their head. I had played a later game first (blame a long time being away) so I knew what was coming, but I wanted to play the previous games.
Having read the reviews, I thought I was prepared for the weirdness in the game. The story starts out great, then kinda decides "we need to get from point A to point B, so a miracle's gonna happen here."
The mechanics are janky most of the game. Some HOPs were spent clicking around what I KNEW to be the object, but it was going for a specific place, and other HOPs were spent clicking around, because what does a "magical trap" look like? Throw in a good amount of "how does that work in this situation?" and it wasn't the best game.
I will still recommend this game, because I like the sci-fi nature of it, and they took care to treat the characters well. It's a decent bridge to the next episode.
I recommend this game!

I LOVE Elephant Games, but I only played 20 minutes of the demo before saying, "Not for me." I tend to play these adventure games in hard mode and the make or break for me are the game mechanics.
The first HOP was annoying - I clicked on one part of a rather large object and it was wrong, then clicked on another part and it was fine. So much for trying to get that "No Mistakes" achievement...
I had to change to Custom Mode because even though I don't usually need a hint when clicking on an object, I do like having text that furthers the story, so I had to turn that function on.
The game when Kevin is on the phone baffled me for a bit because I didn't realize you could click on blank tokens. I thought the game was broken!
The story sounded intriguing, but I would have gotten too frustrated with the game play to finish it.
I don't recommend this game.

Let me say that, more and more, I am enjoying games that don't hold my hand through the gameplay. There are "tutorial" levels throughout the game that explain how new pieces work by solving the level. There was one piece where I had to go through a couple of levels before I realized how it really worked.
I will play a couple of levels that are easier and then have a level or two that will stump me...for a while. At the time of this review, I'm at a level (38, if that matters to anyone) where I've tried a bunch of strategies and I can't figure it out at all - and I LOVE it! I know that once I figure it out, I'll wonder how I could have missed it. That's what's great about this game. It forces you to think around a problem.
And no matter what, the music is nice and even if I don't finish a level, I like playing it for a while at the end of a work day :)
I recommend this game!

**Reviewing after the demo**
This is a great game to while away the time. The instructions were definitely enough to get me through, and there were a couple of times where I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish the level. So the gameplay was worth the price of the game.
There's a request to play the music through headphones. Even if you only play the demo, DO THIS! The music is beautiful, and (again) worth the price of the game.
The graphics are amazing! Yeah, the time taken between levels is a little long - sit back and enjoy it. And (3rd times the charm) worth the price of the game.
Unfortunately, it's the smaller games that tend to make laptops overheat, so I can't play it more than a few minutes at a time. Otherwise I would buy this game in a heartbeat and lose myself in it.
I recommend this game!

This game does not hold your hand. The puzzles are deceptively easy at first, and get really super hard later on. The story is simple - you're in a mansion and you have to collect keys to get out. I'm almost done, and stuck, but I'll get it.
The best part of this game is the satisfaction of beating each puzzle (and goading a game character into bringing it on - it's ridiculous.) I did skip one puzzle because I'm rubbish at the type of puzzle it was, and the game chided me for it :( Though I deserved it :)
I LOVE that it's not the type of game where you run to location 1 to get something to use in location 2, which opens something in location 1, which works with a gadget in location 2, etc. etc.
Take a deep breath, don't use any hints, and get those "I did it!" endorphins after each puzzle. And don't try to play this in one setting. Some puzzles need a fresh mind.
I recommend this game!

I know that this is already an older game, but I hadn't played it all the way through until now.
I hoped that this was a sequel to Dire Grove, because I LOVED that game, but while it takes place in the same locale, it's not really a sequel. The storyline was a little weak for MCF games, but the way you gather clues is novel and I liked the set parameters. It gave me a path to follow.
I love the mini game puzzles, though they can seem impossible (and improbable) at times. You're encouraged to click everywhere to figure out how to solve the puzzles, and they made me think differently.
I really didn't like the dialogue and wanted to skip it, though I recommend at least to read through it, since some dialogue contain clues.
Play this is you love MCF games (or Elephant Games!)
I recommend this game!

Granted, I only played the demo, but had to quit after 27 minutes because I was frustrated at the game play.
First of all, the live actors' mouth movements and the sound don't line up. When I read the reviews I thought 'out of sync' meant sound first, then the action, which has happened before. This time, the actors' mouths looked like they were saying gibberish. It was very distracting.
Second, it was hard to exit a magnified scene or skip the dialogue. It seemed like the director waited a few seconds before yelling 'Action!' so some live scenes feel weird, and I had to click the x a couple of times to exit. It was difficult to exit even the non-actor magnified scenes.
Third, I know that I only played a half-hour, but I quickly got tired of the 'scary' moments, played up by violins. I get what they were trying to do, and I'm sure that it would get better later on, but again, it was distracting.
I really wanted to play this game after seeing the opening, because it seemed like a great story, even if it wasn't all that scary so far. I just couldn't get past the awkward game play.
I don't recommend this game.

The graphics are fantastic, especially when entering the patients rooms. The story is really good as an asylum story - the twist at the end isn't integral to finishing the game, but it really adds to the story.
The half-star less is for the fact that even though I consider myself at least a 'normal' player, if not 'expert', I had a problem a few times with missing things that were key to finishing the game. Maybe I ran my cursor too quickly over each scene.
This could be an issue for my computer only but the game was taking a long time to load most of the scenes. There wasn't a load screen at the beginning, so that could be why. It didn't really diminish the enjoyment of playing, and usually once I loaded a scene, I could go back pretty easily.
I recommend this game!

I decided to try this game as a fluff game, something to pass the time. An hour later, when the demo time was up, I realized that I had to get this. I'm a fan of hidden object, and this sharpens your skills without having to play a full adventure game.
The only caveat is that it can get repetitive, but I've been playing it for about 4 hours in the last two days, so any game could get repetitive in that amount of time. It's quite addictive!
I recommend this game!
