I don't usually review games, but I had to say something about the McKirk Ritual CE. It's a relief to finally get a game that I can figure out without hitting the hint button a hundred times to figure out what to do next! I just finished the trial, and I plan to buy the full CE. I buy a game thinking about relaxation. I have a ton of games, most of which I buy for the story content, and unfortunately I'm not a sleuth by nature, even though I like this genre. I agree with caseyduhamel in that it's a relief that we already know the culprit and we're not tasked with saving our world, another world, or some member of our family. I also like that we aren't required to travel to strange places via magic mirror, etc.
Who is the Crimson Thief? Can Mortimer piece together the clues to finding all the stolen items? There is much more to this new mystery than meets the eye.
I played PART of the demo. I actually bought the first Mortimer Beckett game, and the first thing I noticed was that the scenes are so dark, it's very hard to find certain items. Same with the other two Mortimer Beckett games I tried. So with this one, same thing. Cannot find items because the scene is so dark. And before you say brighten your screen, my screen is already up to 100% brightness.
I was trying to complete the scene puzzle with the car parts. It was hard to discern what some of the parts actually were based on the drawings, so I still haven't figured it out.
Can't get further into the game until you finish the puzzles, can you? With the absolute lack of clues and hints other than "you have to finish this puzzle in order to go to the next scene", how in the name of games can you complete it?
I'd really like to buy all of these games; they look fun and I like the game plan, but if I can't see the scenes and figure out the puzzles, guess I'm not going to buy any of them.
Unfortunately, I don't recommend these Mortimer Beckett games.
PLEASE UPDATE THIS GAME AND YARD SALE: LUCKY JUNCTION, TOO!! It will not download on my new computer, no matter what I do. ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES. Too bad there aren't more simple Hidden Object games like these that we can fall back on when we just need something a little different.
This game definitely isn't as good as the previous Cruise Director games. The scenes are way too busy; some of the hidden items are very small. Some of the games are confusing and take too long. Waiting for the scores to appear after completing the scenes seems to be even longer than before, which were too long to begin with. The puzzles, in which you choose a piece, and have to turn it around, find where it goes, and place it, the pieces are too small and the game takes too long. What bothered me the most, was some of the scenes are so busy, I felt like my head was swimming. The actual Cruise Director and the Captain are almost non-existent in this game, which I find very disappointing. If the future Cruise Director games are like this one, I won't buy any more Cruise Director games.
This game makes me crazy. I couldn't even finish it. Way too much back and forth-ing; too many details, too many items to retrieve. I disliked most of the mini games.
I got confused and lost several times. I like to think I'm not bad at finishing HOP games, but there are just some that drive me crazy, and this one does.
The artwork and visuals are just great, but I was too frustrated to finish, as I said.
I don't usually rate games, and I'm certainly not an expert player. But the "experts" are correct on this one: not again! The same type storyline, the same HOAs and games.
I can't see me buying another one of the Grim Tales because of my personal dislikes: The same snyde, insulting father ghost, and the incessant notices at the top of the page, telling you what you just accomplished, and then what's next.
And don't forget, how many of these games have the same storyline, where someone is out for revenge at the Gray family??
This storyline made no sense. Couldn't figure out what came next. Had to use the hint button many, many times. Went from slightly realistic to absolutely fantastic. By fantastic I mean unbelievable and crazy. I'm not sure I'm even going to finish the game.
