I don't do many reviews any more, but wow. This was the best MCF for a LONG time in my opinion and I'm shocked that it's being panned.
I actually had stopped buying MCF titles when the stories about the Dalimars got weirder and weirder, as well as sillier and sillier. I hope that the Countess is the beginning of a new story-line, since it also features a creepy house with lots of puzzles, and a villainess that could easily be back.
There are tons of puzzles in this game. None of them are as tough as the original MCF's, but they are not as blatantly stock as many games.
The one small problem I had with the game was that hidden object scenes were not as inventive as they are in many games today. However, I don't play "hidden object games" for the hidden object scenes. I play them for the story-line and puzzles. The story-line was was at least internally consistent and not as gross as some of the MCF's have been, and the puzzles were quite good.
And one of the best features was that you could go back and find any of the collectibles or morphs after the game and bonus chapter were done. If you just want to play through the story without worrying about collectibles or morphs, you can wait until you are completely done, then do them as an "endgame" activity. I've played a few games that are doing this recently, and I give this feature a big thumbs up!
Overall, I hope there are more MCF's in the future that are like this game.
I recommend this game!

I haven't reviewed many games, but this one comes as close to perfection as any game I've played in a long time. I can't remember the last time a game pulled me in and didn't let me stop. I have no idea how I missed this series and publisher, but I'm definitely going to take a look at their other games.
I love puzzles, and am thoroughly bored with standard HO's, so I was pleasantly surprised to be able to play decent puzzles on "hard" mode. (NOTE: Even on hard mode, these puzzles are only moderately tough. I found the puzzles in Medium Detective to be harder). The HO's also held my interest, since there were quite a variety of them, and they often contained puzzle elements.
The collectables were great, with cards that explained the characters you met and a room you could furnish by buying furniture with "gold nuggets" you would find along the way.
It was also quite good about letting you know if you had found all the collectables in an area, a feature that is on my "must have" list after playing so many where I would miss something, and not be able to get back to it.
I recommend this game!
