I think the people that gave this game a 'meh' did not play it long enough to figure out that it does start slowly, but once you begin to learn the tasks that give big payouts of hearts, it becomes an attention-holding, more-than-meets the eye pursuit.
I played RollerCoaster tycoon 1-3 for years. This game should not be compared with the beloved RCT franchise because they are completely different genres. Apples and oranges.
That said, here is my list of pros and cons:
Pros:
The game itself is different from any strategy or time/management game I've played, which is saying something.
It is challenging to discover quicker ways to earn hearts and other shortcuts.
It really is a causal game. My park had 14 rides that were all running at the same time and my computer didn't so much as pause. This is because the animation is basically limited to the rides moving, and the guests walking around - no boarding rides.
There are lots and lots of rides, attractions, restaurants, shops and concessions to choose from. A lot of care was put into designing each element and making them attractive and pleasing.
I played the game for 5 hours, and I had only finished 22% of the park I was playing. Logically that tells me that there is a lot more to come. There are at least three more parks after that.
Cons:
When the park closes for the day, (although nothing ever stops moving) it becomes night instantly, and a big bar takes up the top fourth of the screen and steals focus. It tells you how much money you've made and displays one of a few tips that repeat over and over and over.
This began to become a pain in the neck when I was in the middle of building or moving something, and it seems to come up fairly often. You can click it off, but then you have to stop what you are working on to do so.
That one con aside, this game is a keeper. Give it a try!
I recommend this game!

You're in Tinseltown. Your job is to complete a movie that is not only a box office success, but critically acclaimed as well. In fact, your job depends on it!
It's a match three puzzle. The layouts are eye-candy, lots of fun and have many power-ups and special features that come to life when you match in chains. Without giving away the surprises, the power ups are very clever and unlike any other I've seen in the many match 3 games I've played.
When you finish your match three puzzle, your score is added, and that is your budget for the coming week. Now you take over the role as the Producer of the film. You have to decide how to spend your money. Better props? More experienced people? Cheap sets?
As you progress, you can click a button and see the movie play as it is - raw footage I guess. This can help you decide what needs work - and money. Each time as you add more staff and sets, etc. You play it to see the progress you are making.
I got through the first movie in my free hour. The next one coming up was of a different genre. It would make sense that switching from one genre to another, at the other end of the spectrum would bring a whole new set of Producing problems to solve.
The retro art is gorgeous. Anyone interested in retro or more specifically, the fifties would find this game enjoyable. The artist/s involved in this project are very talented. Also anyone who loves match 3 puzzles should try this one, just for its special power-ups.
By the way, my movie ended up being a smashing success, winning awards and garnering a four-star rating. Not bad for a first-time Producer. :-)
It is a nice diversion.
I recommend this game!

I love time management games, but usually I get to a level where I get bored, or some element becomes too aggressive and the fun gets squeezed out a bit. I then quit and move on. But with this game, not only was each level a bit more challenging, but I looked forward to seeing what was being added next.
I am grateful that there is a relaxed mode. This is what I used for my trial hour. Now that I have the hang of it, and I've bought it, I am going to do the timed version.
The farm itself is cute, and so are the plants, tools and especially animals that you get to work with. There are chapters and the cartoons with voice tell the unfolding story.
Something different I noticed in this game. For those familiar with the card game "Free Cell", you know when the four slots are filled with extra cards and you can't make any moves? This has that element infused into the regular game play. You won't notice it on the earlier levels, but as things start to get very busy, you'll need to do something and you can't until you clear a spot. It is a genius addition and yet another thing that sets this game apart. =)
I recommend this game!

Just like the other reviewer stated, the ball crawls down the lane. I used the tips given that were supposed to make the ball go faster, and they did not make a bit of difference. It is maddening watching the ball s-l-o-w-l-y make its way down the lane, knowing that it is only going to knock over a pin or two - in slow motion. Over and over. I could only stand it for about 10 minutes. Save yourself the trouble - avoid this dud like the plague.
I don't recommend this game.
