Sigh. I just finished this fantastic game and I was charmed from beginning to end. The story was wonderfully twisty and the characters very engaging. It's quite a long game and the bonus chapter is lengthier than the norm and wraps up the story in a very satisfying way.
The minigames were fun and logical and the HOS were just right (not too few, not too many; not too hard, but not too easy-- you get the picture). The morphing items were a bit too easy to spot-- but the ones that are crazy hard to find can be very frustrating, so I was happy.
And, THANK YOU developers for allowing me to reuse some of the items I picked up along the way. We actually get to keep a sharp object for frequent use! Makes me feel like a fairly intelligent adventurer instead of an idiot who drops the knife after one use (because it's so heavy? cut a hole in my pocket?) only to carry a ladder, an open pot of glue, and a heavy rock around for three scenes... just in case... Also, you rewarded us with multiple finds in many locations. Very satisfying. I congratulate the developers for working so hard to make the tasks more varied, rewarding, and original in this game.
My only beef is that the hidden puzzle pieces I collected throughout the game didn't get used in the Extras area. Or at least I couldn't find a puzzle area there.
All in all, one of the best games I've played. I'm very glad I opted for the CE version.
I recommend this game!

I purchased the game on sale because I wanted to know how the story ended and the demo was fun. However the gameplay beyond the demo was not as good.
There were too many mini-puzzles where touching one thing moved other pieces-- not very creative and quite tedious to play.
On about half the video clips you could not continue the dialogue with a click and the characters speak very slowly so the only option was to listen (very slowly) or skip. I can't skip the story so that was frustrating.
The tasks were fairly stupid, too-- [NOTE: some small spoilers below in examples]
In one instance you had to find TWO pieces of paper in order to write down a three digit combination. Ridiculous. Quite often you had to find a special tool to remove debris when you could see the object you needed-- why not just shove stuff aside and grab it? Lots of clicking for each task, too (and the tap feature on my trackpad didn't work in this game so LOTS of clicking). There was even one where you had to pick up and then PLACE a bunch of matches(!). Fine-- make me click each match but then don't make me click again to place it in the box. That's just filler. It and several other tasks really lowered the sense of urgency. Especially when there is a high-pressure climax, it seems silly to run four scenes back to get a knife so you can rip some already torn canvas or open a zipper. (Several zippers, several potions to assemble, lots of rust to remove and animal snacks to provide-- sigh.)
I play a lot of these games and most of them, especially in the last two years, work hard to make the mini-games entertaining and the tasks somewhat meaningful. There are even some that allow you to, for instance, keep a sharp object on hand so you can execute several tasks with it (as any sane adventurer would do). This feels like an older game. I wish I'd waited for the SE or skipped this one entirely.
I don't recommend this game.

I just finished the main game of the CE and was so awestruck I actually watched the credits.
I have played all the Ravenhearst installments and this was such a REFRESHING change from the same old, same old mansion shenanigans.
I loved the story and feel the need to be cautious in my review to avoid giving away any spoilers (not true for most games-- I can pretty much predict the twists and turns of every story-- and I've played a LOT of BF games). Thank you EIPIX for caring this much about story.
The artwork is as amazing as always-- I love the fluid animations and gorgeous settings. I was so relieved that we didn't get stuck in the mansion for the whole game (is that a spoiler? sorry).
The music was lovely. The puzzles were fun and varied. There were many of the type I call "Mousetrap puzzles" where you work on different small puzzles that are all interconnected. My favorite. The HOPs were fine and mostly quite interactive. I play adventure games despite them, so was glad they didn't include larger lists of items.
Don't listen to the haters. This game was wonderful. More like this please, dear EIPIX developers. I, for one, am so grateful for your efforts.
I recommend this game!
