I have all of the house of 1000 doors series, and have played them many times, and still enjoy them. This newest edition has not made the grade however, the first disappointment was the characters, they are all just about unrecognizable, and when the new person head talks on the limp body I wanted to stop right there. Then there is the pink/purple fascination, yuck! what happened to the great graphics all replaced by cartoons in lurid colors. And we have to mention the extremely annoying HAND. There is no fun or entertainment in tracing geometric lines endlessly. I liked the no nonsense Kate, along with all the old characters, but they have morphed into weird cartoon characters while the HOG's have no longer morphed, and are a lot of outline hidden objects which I really don't enjoy. The newest member of the family has the worst monotone voice never exhibiting excitement or any emotion, and bursting out when you least expect it.
I bought this game and was very excited to see it, but am very disappointed in this latest effort. Bring back the great old characters, the cool house with 1000 doors, and carry on the story line you just dropped last time. And speaking of cliff hangers, the bonus part of this leaves you the same way as last time, hanging in space wondering why it ended here.
I don't recommend this game.

I enjoyed most of this game, the graphics were great, the HO's a little junky but not to bad, the puzzles were good, I didn't have to skip any in frustration. I liked the narrator very much nice voice good inflection, made the story flow well. The rooster and miner were a joy, I love having stuff that stays in my inventory instead of disapearing after one use, and though the rooster did things no rooster could have he was after all stone so I figured he was much stronger. I didn't like the ending, left hanging on several levels I won't discuss as it will spoil the game plot, but there was unfinished business. The bonus game was very short, only about 25 minutes which made it not worth buying the CE version, there is no ability to play the puzzles as in other elephant games.
The bonus game also ended abruptly, with no real reason behind the added game. I don't like this trend of ending games on a clif and it is becoming more and more prevalent and that is the basis for my lower review, it ruins a game for me to be left high and dry.

It should have been a tremendous achievement, but the tunnel through the Ridge of Leviathan became the site of a great disaster. What really happened that day?

I have all the other suface games and looked forward to playing this one. I found that this game made me much more frustrated then any of the others, sometimes solutions were just totally out of line, for example, who would think of cutting open upolstry with a potato peeler, I don't know about anyone else but my potato peeler would in no way cut open a heavy cloth as in on seats in a train. This is but one example of items that were perfectly logical to use from your inventory but not acceptable and the really bazar item being the one to use. I ended up using the help button way more then any other games I enjoyed the graphics, voice over was quite good, although many times not quite synced to what was happening.
I recommend this game!

I admit I started backwards on this whole Mystery Trackers series, I bought and played Mystery Trackers Silent Hollow first and loved it. Then bought the remainder of them, none of which are in the same class as Silent Hollow. I had expected the detective to have the same powers as in Silent Hollow but they are totally lacking in the previous ones.
The bad parts for me:
All the running around, no forward movement and no clue to what is going on.
The rain, and all the things you leave out in the rain until you have another hour or so to find a key or a pair of wire cutters to free the dog.
The urgency in completing something, that requires another hour to find the parts, seems like the whole island should have burned down before the hose was found.
The typical mislabeled parts, like the slice of cantaloupe that was carved from a pumpkin, or the filbert that was labeled a chestnut, these things really irritate me to an extreme for some dumb reason, If you want me to find a pair of pliers don't picture wire cutters.
I get frustrated with all the tools I lose on the way and need again, if we will need a knife all through the game give us one to keep, along with a crowbar and a sledgehammer. Also when there is a sword in my inventory, don't tell me I can't cut a rope with it, I can! you just don't want me to.
Too many HO's with light making it hard to see, I am getting up there and my vision is not as good as it was, I don't mind things that are hidden but when I can't find them because I can't see a section of the HO that is frustrating.
There were at least 2 HO's that were copies of Raincliff, the screws were in the exact place on the guns on the left, I felt like I'd been there and I had.
This is the first game that I have ever played that you need items from your inventory to finish a HO, and the hint button kept pointing to the record player and whatever the other object was. I had to quit the game and go to the walk through to discover I needed to do.
And the ending, what was with that??? A cliff hanger? and did it get finished in the CE? I have to admit I am not going to continue to buy games that I don't get an ending to unless I pay double the price, and that seems to be the norm lately.
The good parts:
The hint button was mostly good, although I used it more often in this game then any other I have ever played.
Graphics were good for the most part
Voice overs were mostly good, one or two didn't match the players movements.
I loved Elf, and that he gets to stay! It lends a continuity to the games.
Although the rain was well done and sounded as good as what is going on outside today, a little sun would have been nice lol
I guess all in all I am not sorry I bought the game but more so I have a background in future games if they are as good as hollow.
I recommend this game!

Seems like many of these marble popper games are extremely easy in the beginning and then progress to about impossible part way through. I am half way and can't progress past this point in the time allotted, it can't be just me.
I don't recommend this game.

I have the other House of 1000 Doors games and was excited to get this one. I bought it even though the collectors editions are usually not worth it and that was true with this game too.
pros: The music added to overall ambiance, scenes were clear and crisp, finding the morphing objects wasn't as annoying as some games. The mini games were mostly interesting, I didn't skip any of them. The miss naming of objects in HOG was much less then the other games, I really hate it when a head of cabbage is called lettuce just to name one. The map is wonderful, saves tons of running around, and to have the morphing items on it really helped keep me focused to find them which I am inclined to forget about sometimes.
Cons: The figures of Sammy, Simon, and Amanda were more stilted and their speech was much worse then the other games in this series. I was under the impression that the inhabitants of this house were spirits so I am not sure why they are seeming to grow up and get older, I may be wrong. There were misspellings in the journal that I find to be just poor editing. The ending was totally abrupt and without conclusions of the other games, we are not even sure if she made it back out of the house of 1000 doors, I expected more since the person on the other planet said she was to come back and talk about things, never happened. The bonus chapter was a rehash with slightly more information of the game, I guess I expected it to be an ending. I don't like the push towards making collectors editions to find the endings of games, the full game should be in the regular edition, and just bonuses in the collectors editions. This is the second time I have run across this, and can't figure out why BFG is ruining games this way, if they are more expensive to produce then charge a little more instead of making people pay double to find out the ending of the game, I have been with BFG for over 5 years but will not continue it this practice continues.
Over all, I think the game was too short, much shorter then the other two in the series, maybe because most of the games and HOG were much easier then previous games. I did enjoy the match the object HOG parts as something different.. I would recommend playing the other two games, if you haven't, before this one, since there is little explanation of what is going on as a stand alone game.
I recommend this game!

I enjoyed the first part of the game, graphics were good, and storyline kept you interested, but I didn't have a clue what they wanted me to do on some of the games, a little bit of instruction would have been helpful, I just skipped some because I didn't know how to even start or what to press. The cleaning of the mirrors was the same, the only hint I could get was to clean, well I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned, it took about 500 clicks before it was cleaned and that is way too much for a minor part of the game
I don't recommend this game.

I was happy to find a game without ghosts and insane people. After trying to do Escape from Ravenhurst this game was a refreshing change in sanity. I loved the find the vowels to begin the game, nice touch. The graphics were easy to see, screens were nice and light, and the mini games entertaining. The amount of time in the timed game was a little overboard since most were 20 minutes and I had found all the objects within 2-3 minutes. I thought, as many others, that Jessica and company could have been a little more animated with more variety in facial expressions, but it was not a big item. The five different books were also a nice feature, being able to conclude one mystery and go on to the next one another time. All around enjoyable game.
I recommend this game!
