I like the Magic Book series and I am so disappointed with this edition! The voiceovers are so bad that I quit playing to write this review. Someone said they were able to play with the sound off. That's a hint. It is dreadful. Everyone I know could do a better job of reading this. Shame on the developers!
I'm still playing the trial, but I think it is an okay game. Frustrated because I simply didn't see the dead tree/s that I really needed! I'm afraid the bad reviews are due to the same type of user error!

It seems like the developers took 'cool' things from previous games, threw them together, and called it a new game. I keep expecting Fiona to pop up. I don't want to list the repeats, but if you've played all the others (if not, do it now - they are great.) you will recognize things before you can use them. There is a new grandchild. There is a new Academy of Magic. Some of the puzzles are my least favorites, but you can skip them easily. There are no alternatives. I'm glad I got this on sale.
I would love to play a new hidden object game, that was playable. This is terribly dark, but except for the first 'game' there are no instructions, no clues, just random guessing of what you are supposed to do. The 'games' switch so each is different, and some are nicely challenging. But, they don't go together to form a story. I've just played half the trial time, so maybe it gets better? I do love the drawing of the Old Lady.
I love the Dark Parables games and this is one of my favorites. One of just a few that I will play again and again. The story is captivating, a different take on my memories of the Frog Prince tale. The graphics are dark, but not too dark, puzzles make you think but not pull your hair out. I love it! At this price, give the detective a try - I think you'll be hooked!
I broke down and bought the Collector's edition and am glad I did. I found the strategy guide helpful several times, when I normally ignore them. I enjoyed the bonus chapter and wonder how the se ended. The game was beautiful. I had cursor jump only on the menu page. Most of the play was logical and interesting. Some puzzles were those I skip....(I don't like turning things around endlessly to find the pattern). This isn't as good as the Dark Parables series, but it's close. Perhaps the sequel they hint at will be better. I'm glad I bought it, enjoyed playing it and really wanted to see how it ended. Much better than many games I bought and neglected to finish...sigh. Very enjoyable game with great graphics and the girl gets to save her guy!
