Based solely on the Demo...The graphics were sharp, atmospheric sounds appropriate to the theme, Voice Overs believable, and the story should please most detective fiction fans. However I found myself relying far too much on the SG while floundering around wondering what to do next. I love HOGs, FROGs, and adventure lite HOPAs, but this was too much hard work. I hated all the gadgets and the Detective aspect of my role. I'm supposed to be a writer, not a Policeman! I skipped most of the puzzles, and found nothing relaxing or Fun about this game.
There is a general lack of logic throughout the game. You open your backpack to activate a HOS and the items included are ridiculous, and would never fit in the bag. The most annoying aspect is the hand holding, with constant banner messages telling you what your next task is, then again when the task is completed. It interrupts the flow of the game. I will probably be buying it anyway as a Daily Deal, simply because it's Bonus Punch day, and will fill up a PCC for a low price. Try the Demo and decide for yourself
I don't recommend this game.

Dark Dimensions: City of Ash
A dark dimension has fallen over Phoenix Hill, turning its residents into volcanic ash. Help them rise from the ashes.
A glitch in the Demo allowed me to play the entire game. I didn't time it, but played for over 3 hours. I am not a fan of puzzles, but these were interesting and mostly quite easy. Some mechanical puzzles were very time consuming and I wound up skipping them. The HOPs were interactive and a lot of fun. The Map transported you to sites with actions available, and items in inventory were used very quickly, often in the same scene. The major problem with the game was the aspect ratio. Full screen did not stretch to fill my MacBook, and it and Windowed mode were both aligned badly so the bottom of the screen was hard to see. The ending was very strange as it did not explain where you obtained the knowledge how to beat the bad guy. It just gives instructions what actions to take, as if the Devs got in a hurry to end the game. I have several Dark Dimension games, and enjoyed this one despite the little problems.
The garish colours and tiny objects made this impossible for my tired old eyes to enjoy. The music was cheerful, but repetitive. Please try the Demo and judge for yourself, as some will probably love this style of game with it's pleasant Christmas theme.
I don't usually mind Clutter style games, as I find their monotony relaxing, but the muddy colours made this too much of an eye-straining annoyance. The first puzzle was suited to a 5 year old. I didn't get to the next puzzle or mini-game as I deleted the Demo after less than 10 minutes. The map was virtually useless as well. Definitely a No Buy for me.
Based on Demo... Yet another "child snatched by someone evil" story. The graphics were bright and clear, but cartoony. I always play with the sound off, so I can't comment on VO's or atmosphere. I liked the interactive HOS, but was left floundering as regards actions needed, and had to rely on the Hint button too much. There is a rune stone tablet which you have to recharge every time you use it by tracing a pattern of lines. I hate this type of repetitive puzzle. I also hate the Simon Says type of puzzle encountered in a mini-game here. I feel like I've played this story one too many times, and seen much better versions.
Based on about 10 frustrating minutes of the Demo... The opening cutscenes were very slow to load, and kept flickering. I don't know if that's a glitch or intentional for atmosphere, but it was really annoying. The dialogue was also slow, and you can't click through it . The first HOS had tiny objects for a picture find. Some are inside a suitcase which I was unable to open. It kept asking me for a sharp object to open the case. When I used the Hint, it directed me to the suitcase, not the sharp object, which was not at all helpful. I clicked on everything in the HOS and still couldn't find anything to pick up. To add insult to injury, the game imposes a click penalty and the picture gets darker with every click. The room in the Hotel, and the HOS itself were already dark enough to cause eyestrain. I wonder if the Developers even bothered to Beta test this mess. I've never uninstalled a game so quickly!
I purchased this game to complete a Punchcard, so only have myself to blame. The HOS are junk-piles, and locations are revisited over and over. It is extremely frustrating having to wait for the letters to be filled in on the board once you find the item that matches the word. Some items are tiny and/or very well hidden in the blurry graphics. Some words are not a logical match for the item, which makes me think English is a second language for the Creator. There are not many levels to the game, so it doesn't have any replay value either. I don't believe even a Crossword fanatic would care for this, but try the Demo if you have time to kill, and a Lot of patience.
Based on the Demo... This is a good one for the kiddies. Not so much a Hidden Object as a Puzzle game of mostly matching 2 or 3 objects in a junk-pile, as well as a minimal jigsaw puzzle now and then. The graphics are cartoonish, but good, and suitable for Halloween. Slow moving, easy game for a rainy day.
Based on the Demo.. I enjoyed this game. The HOP scenes were unusual, and graphics were nice and clear. The pace was a little slow, especially the dialogue, but not to the point of annoyance. Although doing the modifications was a pain, I liked watching the cute Kiwi in action. I didn't come across many puzzles in the demo, but what needed doing was easy and reasonably obvious. As a senior citizen I prefer my games relaxing, and don't wish to rely on Hints or Strategy guides to get through them. I haven't played other games by this developer, but will happily buy this one when in comes on sale, or I have a spare PCC to use.
