I am so glad the creators made this available for the Mac! What an all-around excellent game. From the opening video, you are immersed in this fantastical world. The graphics are outstanding and so real - it is such a close-to-life experience - every scene, every nuance. The accompanying music and sound effects are a perfect mesh for the storyline. I found myself just "sitting back" and absorbing the atmosphere of each scene, luxuriating in the ambience and "reality" of the world around me. WOW!
Whether the clues and discoveries and information you uncover about the characters is truth or fiction doesn't matter and I find myself wishing to explore, in more depth, the possibilities that the creators of this game present the player about these well-known persons from history. People who have had an indelible effect on our present-day culture. It is obvious, much research was taken to infuse this game with knowledge and mystery and delicious fun.
As with the other games in this series, the player is taken to different locales on the globe and different eras in time - which makes for a story that is always fresh and intriguing.
The mini games are cleverly designed, the HO scenes were beautifully drawn and the objects easy to see. In all aspects, this game is superb!
Another bonus is the Guide - with other games, you must buy the Collector's Edition to get the Guide. The creators incorporate the Guide into the game and offer it to you at the price of a non-Collector's Edition. You can't beat that!
Yes, the game was short. It was relatively easy. The graphics were enchanting and the vignettes were different and delightful and made me smile. As another reviewer mentioned, there was non of the dark creepiness so many of the HO games are inundated with of late and that to me was uplifting. It was simple, good, clean fun and I enjoyed playing it. I did get it on sale and at that price I cannot complain. I liked this game enough to download the others in this series, so, overall, this game was a sweet positive experience.
I enjoyed this more than the first I played in this series, which was Love Chronicles: The Spell. The creators took this game up a notch on almost every level. Beautiful graphics. The story line was entertaining, but I think I preferred the storyline in The Spell more. That said, the storyline in this game was entertaining and perfect for the kingdom the player explores.
Mini puzzles were a bit more challenging and I found myself hitting the Skip more than I would have liked, but not after thoroughly enjoying my attempts to get the puzzle solved first.
As with the other game in this series, I found I did not want to leave the computer - choosing, instead, to continue moving forward to new adventures and meeting each colorful character you discover throughout the land.
The game is designed to pique your interest with ingenious challenges, gorgeous landscapes and imagery, enchanting music, and mini rewards throughout the game that I found delightful and original.
This was a delightful game to play, engaging and kept my interest all the way through. I found I didn't wish to stop. The mini games were fun and challenging enough to bring you in, but not so difficult that you throw your hands up in defeat and hit the "skip" button.
I was very grateful for the map integration user-friendliness. It sure beat making you have to: walk back a gazillion number of clicks, then go right or left another dizzying number of clicks to navigate through the game. The "map-jumping" feature allowed me to devote more time to the gameplay and enjoy the storyline.
Unfortunately, though I finished the game, successfully meeting all the challenges, I was cheated out of the big "pay off" and I don't know if it was a glitch with my computer or a problem with the game - but I really missed not seeing/hearing/ experiencing the epic ending.
Loved the game enough to download the other one in the series: Love Chronicles: The Sword and the Rose
I began this journey playing the second game in this series. I must say, I was spoiled by that one and couldn't wait to try this edition. I was not disappointed.
Fun, colorful, and challenging in a friendly fashion, I was swiftly enthralled. Imaginative worlds and engaging puzzles keep the player captivated and I found myself smiling through so much of the gameplay.
As with the other game, it is very difficult to stop playing. Just when you think, "Ah, I have figured that out. What fun! Now, for a break..." the next scene you are catapulted into quickly draws you in. In moments you find yourself wanting to explore, solve, discover, and question, "What next?"
Thoroughly campy fun! If they could design a theme park such as the ones in these two games - what crowds they would bring! These two games are like none other I have played. I truly love their individuality, their creativeness, their beauty, and the sheer pleasure of the playful fun they engender.
I didn't rate this as high in the Visual/Sound Quality section as I did the second installment, as I felt the graphics and storyline were not quite as polished. Just my personal reflection... That aside, go for it - this is a wonderful escape!
To the creators of these Snark Buster games - I hope you are developing a third edition in this series. :-)
Oh my gosh! What a blast! From the get-go, the visually attractive graphics are superb. The colorful scenes are incomparable and the sound effects are perfect. Such a fantastic world, so rich in beauty; it very much reminds me of the extraordinary artwork found in high-end fantasy calendars.
I have never played a HO like this and I found it thoroughly delightful! The games are varied, fun and leave you smiling - nothing too difficult, nor too easy. The imagination that went into each scene, puzzle, every twist and turn, and the game play's other-worldly ins & outs was eye-popping.
I did not want to leave - this is a place I would LOVE to go to in real life. Some of the interplay was wonderfully engaging - if allowed, I would have stayed and played several of the mini games repeatedly. (Perhaps the makers could add an award, whereas the player may go back and play some of those games to their heart's content, once they complete the game.)
Good, clean fun, of the highest order. What a fine way to escape. The creators have allowed the player to be transported to an exceptionally fantastic world. This was a treat!
I have not played the first game in this series. I have downloaded it and I hope it is as exciting as this one.
The initial movie-like quality of the visuals is eye-popping. Hearing the dialogue spoken by the characters makes it more personal than just reading a conversation. The Poe mythos suffuses every scene and immerses the player in the mystery of the tale with deliciously dark ease. However, finding the HOs can be daunting due to the objects being buried in dark smudges, clouds and dim scenes. Furthremore, I would have been frustratingly lost much of the time had it not been for the Hint button, as solving the challenges presented throughout the game were daunting. (I marked the Level of Challenge as "Excellent" - 5 notches - but the slant is not positive. The 5 notches represent, more to me, the level of difficulty and frustration.) Sadly, I purchased the SE of this game and my enthusiasm waned due to the difficulty of trying to navigate through the solutions. Had I stayed with the CE, I am certain I would have enjoyed my experience a great deal more.
At first, I felt a bit like I was walking through the pages of a comic book, but I was quickly drawn into the story. Each character introduced was appealing, even in their wickedness - the unveiling of their stories was artfully done. The quests the player is sent on are full of adventure, fun and surprising. The Hint button was one of the most user friendly ones I've experienced - thank you for that! I did not stop until I had finished the game. I kept saying I needed to take a break, but the game drew me on, questioning what my next task would be, how I was going to solve it, and leaving me with a contented sigh when I discovered the solution. I finished this game smiling.
What delicious ambience this game has! A bit of Pirates of the Caribbean ride feel to it, right down to the fireflies, eerie cloudy skies, and misty waterways. Nearly had me smelling the river water, feeling the cold fog shrouding graveyards, and shivering 'neath skeletal trees that creaked in the wind. Level of difficulty wasn't so difficult that it discouraged me from playing. A great deal of fun navigating through the scenes and game play. Delightfully spooky, intriguing, spell-binding. The references to Mark Twain, Shakespeare, and other noted literary icons added flavor to the entire adventure and had you wondering what might be truth and what may be fiction. The graphics were, to my mind's eye, top-notch for the storyline. It didn't bog down in a specific setting as it took the player all over the globe, through time, with gameplay that I found engaging, enlightening, entertaining, and ever-changing. This was a fun ride! Cheers
