Dark Parables has been my favorite game series ever since I played "Dark Parables: The Exiled Prince" so many years ago. I was actually replaying "The Exiled Prince" when this game came out, so I can really see how the game mechanics have improved over the years--for example, there was no fast-travel feature in the earlier Dark Parables games, and that made it a lot more tedious to get from one location to the next. I believe the quality is just as good as, if not better than, previous games in the series, and as usual the game is nice and long. I also like the fact that the puzzles aren't "brain breakers" like they have been in some previous titles in the series; I play for a casual experience and I like a little bit of challenge, but I don't want to be sitting here for ages trying to figure out a puzzle. The ability to customize the challenge level is also a great addition, so if one of the standard challenge levels doesn't work for you, make your own! I did play the demo version before I bought the full version, just to make sure the quality was good enough for a non-discounted purchase.
When I first tried the first game in the Pixel Art series, I was seriously underwhelmed by the difficulty of many of the scenes, and some of the colors they used were eyeball-searingly Web 1.0. But in Pixel Art 2, they turned this around and made sure that all the pixel puzzles had some level of challenge to them. They addressed the color thing, but they went a little too far in the other direction, with too many grays and muted colors. Now it looks like they may just have found the secret sauce. I'm in!
I've loved this game ever since I downloaded the demo, and I've played it a number of times since then. It's a far cry from my usual favorites--hidden-object adventures and mosaic puzzles--so I'm glad I took a chance on it. I find Pixel Art to be very meditative, which is great when I'm winding down at the end of a long or high-anxiety day. Oh, developers---may we have some more, please?
I don't know what the bad reviews were about because I'm really enjoying this game. I actually bought the full game after I played the demo. If you're like me, and you enjoy a nice, casual game with enough challenge to be fun but not so much that you have to break your brain to solve the puzzles, this will be a good choice for you. I'm not going to go into detail about the storyline because other reviewers have done that. I'd just say that if you're in the mood for entertaining and relatively easy fun, this would be a good choice. I also think it would be a good choice for people who are new to hidden-object games because casual mode is just that...casual. Enjoy, but make sure before you buy that this game is going to meet your level of challenge.
I recommend this game!

I play games through the end of the demo, unless they break my computer or simply won't run. This game, however, was an exception: I only played for five minutes before I quit and deleted the game. The breaking point for me was the pair of vipers in the pit--they looked like a bunch of polygons (and not little ones, either) that had been cobbled together, and not well at that! Also, it's 2017, so why can't we have audio of people talking instead of having to read captions that pop up letter by letter, complete with typewriter keyboard sounds? Objects were hard to find because the screen was so dark, and sometimes when I did find an object, all I got was a pop-up that said something like "this is a bunch of hay," but I couldn't pick it up and put it in my inventory even though I knew it was somehow important.
All in all--I honestly hate leaving bad reviews, but for this game I had to. It's sad, because it could have been really awesome if the developer had actually put some time and energy into making this game more playable and more on technical par with other games available in 2017.
