Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others who a much better job than I. I do occasionally comment on the story line as well. This is #2 in this series. Graphics are extremely well done, very clear, with no blurring when going in and out of close ups. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo. Colors are very nice, even though I think they were trying to go for "gloomy." Nicely done. Animation is very smooth and somewhat realistic in movements. I did have to wonder how you can throw a lit torch onto a wooden bridge, have it burn only the creepy sticks blocking your way, and not the bridge. Nice trick. Voices were age and character appropriate, with some emotion and not just someone reading a script. Music was soothing but went to that "edge of your seat" sound when needed. Sound FX are well done, with really nice stormy sounds.
HOGs are very well done, with a combination of interactive lists, silhouettes, highlighted words, and find an object/place an object. Items are not difficult to find and the scenes are not cluttered. I did not see that you could switch to something else, but the HOGs were so well done, you didn't need to. Puzzles were very well done and did have some challenge to a few of them. We even had a couple I hadn't seen before. You don't just breeze through them. Hint system is helpful and we do have the transport feature for longer locations. We do backtrack quite a lot, mostly to use an inventory item. We do have a jump map, with areas of interest clearly identified by name and picture. It also shows you where a collectible has been missed.
Collectible are many and very well done. They are not as easy to spot as you may think, either. We have 12 character figurines that are a fairly bland color, so they blend well into the background. We also have 25 eyes that blend very well into the background colors, and are very easy to miss. They are large enough to see, just remember to look for them. And then we have 27 morphing items. These morph very slowly, meaning they are in and out for quite some time, so they are also easy to overlook, unless you happen to catch it at the right time. Again, if you can't find one, just look at the strategy guide...it tells you exactly where they are.
This story is one of those "my friends are missing," but it is very well done, and I found it interesting and a bit challenging. Just when you think you know what's happening, you find out you are wrong. The story flows very well, is easy to follow and you are constantly on the move. I was drawn into the story from the beginning. I think all levels of players will find this one fun and well worth the price of a CE. Yes, I am adding this one to my ever growing collection of CE games. I do not give 5 stars easily, as a game must be exceptional in all aspects. This one came very close. Just felt we needed a bit more in the SFX department, but I still give this one a 4.75 on my scale.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!
I recommend this game!

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to those who can do a much better job on it than I do. We have #2 in this series. The graphics are mostly pretty clear, but we did have a little blurring now and then. Colors are bright, but not over powering. We do have blues frequently, but not all the time as in other games. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo. Animation is very smooth and realistic, even the facial and hand movements are well done. Voices are very nice, being age and character appropriate. We don't have a lot of character interaction, but what we have is well done. You can click through most dialog, if you read faster than they speak, but be careful that you don't miss a clue when you do. We seem to only have sound FX when something is about to happen or is happening at the time. Otherwise, fairly quiet, except for the music, which can be quite monotonous. This game picked up and followed what was happening in the first in this series.
HOPs are quite well done, with some set up as clues. Scenes are fairly clear and items are not difficult to find. We have a combination of highlighted words, interactive HOPs, and find and place items. Very nicely done. I did not see that you could switch to something else. Puzzles are not difficult, but do take a bit of time and thought to complete. You do a lot of back tracking in this addition. We do have the jump map, which shows if you have missed a collectible in a particular area. Hint system is quite helpful, but I did not run across a transport feature during the demo. We don't really back track that far anyway.
Collectibles are not bad at all. We have to find 42 morphing items; coins and stamps. These can be challenging, as some stamps are quite small and easy to overlook. Some scenes have more than one of any one of the collectibles, so be on the look out, and the morphing items aren't as easy to spot as you think either.
Yes, we follow the clues and put together our deduction board to figure out who is doing what and solve the mystery of why. I like this type of game. Maybe I'm a closet detective, or maybe it's because I am a Cop's daughter, a Cop's sister and the mother of a Cop. It's in my blood! This game is well done, even though almost too quiet. Even the story is well done and interesting enough to pull me in from the beginning and keep me wanting more when the demo ended. I believe all levels of players will find this one entertaining and challenging to some extent. Yes, I am adding this one to my collection. I gave this one a 4.5 on my scale.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game and not much on the story, as others do a much better job than I. Looks like this makes #8 in this series. Yes, I have all of the others. Graphics are well done, as usual and are quite clear even in close ups. Colors started out quite nice, but then reverted back to the bright oranges. Still, for the most part, they are well done. We didn't have a lot animation in this one, but what we had was well done. Voices are not bad, but a little high pitched, trying to make the characters sound younger than they looked. Game play was very good, with no problems at all during the demo. Music was rather soothing. There isn't much in the way of sound FX, except an occasional meow from a cat you can't see. This game was fairly quiet, except for the constant music. Very little character interaction during the demo.
Hops were nothing new, but scenes were clean and clear and items were not hard to find. We have interactive lists and silhouettes. I don't see that we can switch to something else if we don't care for the HOPs. There seemed to be an awful lot more HOPs in this addition than in previous games in the series. We had a combination of challenging and simple puzzles, but nothing really new. Hint system is quite helpful and it does transport to longer locations. We do a lot of back tracking in this game, and jump all over the place. There is a jump map, but again, it is very bland and boring. Much easier and faster to use the transport feature.
I did like the variation of collectibles. We need to find 48 jigsaw pieces, which are fairly large for the most part and easy to see, if you look for them. They blend fairly well into the "orange" hue we have in every scene. We collect 12 pieces each for 4 puzzles. We also have 27 morphing objects. These are all musical instruments. They morph quickly, their colors are faded in order to hide them better, and can be anywhere in the scene. We also have 12 tarot cards.
This series seems to have fallen off with this one. It isn't a bad game, but the story moves very slowly and there is almost no character interaction to keep you interested. We return to the same rooms way too many times. The only challenge was in a few of the puzzles. Yes, this one has the "Harry Potter" feel with magic and all that, but it needed some action to keep things moving at a steady pace. Even at that, I like this one well enough to buy it and add it to my ever growing collection. I think most players will like this one for one reason or another. I gave it a 4.0 on my scale.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! As usual, I mostly review on the game play and not the story, as others do a much better job of that than I. Wow, is this really #15 in this series? The graphics aren't bad, but still a bit blurry. The characters have no real animation and if anything does move, it's very stiff. Colors are mostly faded with some purples here and there. Game play was very good, no problems during the demo and the scenes fit my large screen very well. Voices, what we had of them, were okay. Our bad little girl has a very high pitched and annoying voice. This is the only plus to a quiet game, so you don't have much contact with her, or anyone else. We do still have that annoying chime whenever we find something. Sound FX are few and far between. The scene pictures in the strategy guide are very small and blurry.
Again, we have nothing but FROGs. I don't mind fragments now and then, but not for the entire game. I did not see that you could switch to anything else when you got bored with the same thing over and over again. The fragments can be small and are either colorless or blend into the same color background. Yes, the scenes are quite cluttered, with the fragments overlaid onto other items, trying to make them harder to see. Hint system was helpful, but occasionally tells you there is nothing more to do here. Eventually there is a transport feature, but I was well into the demo before it showed up. There is a lot of running back and forth between scenes for one thing or another...too much. Puzzles were very simple and nothing new.
Collectibles were 20 morphing items, which were not difficult to spot. We also have "parables," which are actually puzzle pieces to complete 5 different puzzles. There are only 4 pieces to each one. These are not as easy to spot, as they are usually quite faded in color to try to hide them. All that I ran across were plenty large enough to see, you just have to look for them. Definitely needed more in this area.
As usual, there is nothing new in this old series. I haven't purchased any of this series for quite some time. The story is old and boring and moves very slowly. There was absolutely no challenge anywhere in this game, and almost no character interaction. I'm not even sure a beginner would find this one worth the CE price. However, I'm sure there will be some who find this game fun. It was difficult to find something positive about this one. It just needs to be retired. I didn't even find it interesting enough to consider it as an SE, so no buy for me and no recommendation to others. Too bad, this used to be a nice series, but they don't upgrade to keep it fun.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for today. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! Looks like we have #3 in this series. As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others. Like the other two in this series, the graphics are excellent. I did not see any blurring when going in and out of close ups or anywhere else. Colors are very bright and true with no faded or foggy type color. Excellent animation, very realistic, except that the mouth movement didn't quite keep up with the voices...they kept moving after the dialog had stopped. Not a deal breaker. Voices are well done, age and character appropriate. I loved the very sinister voice of our "bad guy." Very nice sound FX throughout. I did find the footsteps a bit off putting, whenever we moved around in a room. That seemed to disappear as the game progressed. Music is very soothing and quiet enough to be background sound, rather than overtaking the game with noise. We don't have a helper, but we do have investigative glasses to help find clues. In order to get the clue, you play a HOP. I did note that the glasses did not always let you know you needed to use them, so click on them in every room just in case, or you may miss something you need.
HOPs seem to be interactive lists, but are well done. Scenes are very clear and items are not difficult to find. I think the only puzzle I have run across is the clue board. Everything else just seemed to be finding and using inventory items. Hint system is very helpful and we do have the transport feature. We do a lot of back tracking, so this comes in real handy. Some inventory items in a scene can be a little small and we don't always have the close up feature to help us out.
Collectibles were a little disappointing. Unless I missed something, all we have are 25 morphing hand prints. These are very large, but not as easy to spot as you think. They are well placed in a scene. Definitely needed more.
I was pretty much drawn into this one from the opening scene. Yes, a family member is missing, again. And so are some other people we need to find and help out of some very cold situations. However, the story is a well done "who dunnit." We need to investigate the clues and determine who and why. It isn't really a challenging game, but interesting and it flows very well, with constant action and movement. I downgraded this one to a 4.5 because of the voice vs mouth movements and the lack of better collectibles. That said, I like this game and I think most all levels of players will too. I have the need to find out what's happening and why. Yes, I am adding it to my collection of CE games.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! Here we are with yet another Halloween game. The lead into the story was quite well done, but then seemed to fall off short. Graphics were very blurry, but when the game actually started, they cleared up some. However, they were still not very clear. Colors weren't too bad, some faded, others quite clear and nice, depending on where you were in the game and what was happening. Voices were pretty well done, except some of the men sounded like they were bored with the whole party and ready to leave. Sound FX left a lot to be desired. In other words, not much. Very disappointed in the lack of animation. Any movement we had was quite stiff.
HOPs were the usual straight lists and some interactive lists thrown in. Did not see that you could switch to something else if you got bored. Scenes were fairly clear and items were not difficult to find. We did have a morphing item in each HOP. Puzzles did have some challenge to them, but nothing new or difficult to complete. Our map was quite boring, but it did jump us to another location, if we could find the right place in the picture to click. I did note that, even though there was something to do in a particular location, it was often locked and we could not go there until it was "time" according to the game. Hint system was mostly helpful, but I did run across one of those "I suppose I'd better move along" notices. Fortunately, we have the transport feature in this one, so you don't have to mess with the map.
Collectibles were very disappointing. All I found are 35 witches riding on brooms. These all looked like flat plaques, and they are plenty large enough to see. Definitely needed more.
In keeping with the Halloween theme, this is another one of those all too familiar who done it and why type games. The demo was very short, but I found that the story is not new and doesn't flow very well; there is no real action except for our ghost now and then; and we spend a great deal of time running around and not really accomplishing anything. This story was slow and boring for me. I'm sure there will be those who find this fun, but not me. I will recommend this one for beginners, but not for experienced gamers who want some real challenge and excitement. No buy for me.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others. This is #3 in this series. I must admit that I wasn't kicked out with the first two, but this one is much better. Graphics are very well done and no real blurring. Colors are bright without being over powering. Excellent animation, with blinking eyes and all, even though some body movements are a bit stiff at times. Voices are quite well done and are age and character appropriate, and we can click through the dialog if we read faster than they speak. Sound FX are exceptional and throughout the entire demo. They change with which ever scene you are in at the time, e.g. cave, forest, etc. SFX were so well done, that I didn't pay any attention to the background music.
HOPs are a nice combination of interactive lists and interactive silhouettes, with a HOP within a HOP as well. Scenes are fairly clear and items are not difficult to find. Puzzles were a combination of easy, not simple, and some challenging. I found that they did take some time and thought to complete. Hint system is very helpful. We don't have a transport feature, but the map does open and show us where we need to go next, when we click on the hint. Map is set up nicely, showing a picture of each location, as well as whether or not you missed a collectible or morphing item along the way. If you just can't find one of them, they are clearly identified in the strategy guide.
Collectibles are well done. We have 30 morphing items, which can be quite small and challenging to find. We also have 11 manuscripts that can be hidden anywhere in a scene. These give us a story of the island and important information about particular places or items. They are fairly large and easy to see. There is a combination of figurines as well, e.g., 7 horses, 7 butterflies, 8 snakes, 8 elephants. There could be more, but that's all I ran across during the demo. Very nice.
This game reminds me a lot of the old Tomb Raider computer games. Yep, I'm an old gamer. We have a lot more character interaction, which makes a game more realistic and tends to pull you into the game play very quickly. The story is interesting, although nothing new, but quite well done. It is easy to follow and flows very well. I think all levels of players will find this one entertaining, and a bit challenging. As I said, I was drawn into the game fairly quickly and definitely wanted more when the demo ended. Still, not a 5 star game, but I gave it a 4.5. Yes, I am adding it to my collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others who can do a much better job than I. It is definitely nearing Halloween and we have many "spooky" games coming out of the woodwork. The graphics in this game are the same as usual for this developer, very nice except a lot of blurring when going in and out of close ups. Colors are very bright but not over powering. Nice to see that we aren't playing in a cloud of smoke for a change. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo. Voices are well done and are age and character appropriate. Waiting for the "real" bad guy to show up to see what he sounds like. Animation isn't too bad, although some movements are stiff and choppy. Sound FX are very well done and give you just enough of that edge of your seat feeling to make you know something is about to happen. However, be aware that things do jump out at you. We do have a creepy Harlequin doll that pops up now and then. He'd scare me, even if he didn't talk!
HOPs are very well done and varied. We do have a number of highlighted word type HOPs, but still a nice combination, with interactive lists. Scenes are fairly clear and items are not difficult to find. If you don't care for the HOP, switch to the match 3 game. Puzzles, for the most part, are not difficult. We do have some that take time and thought to complete, and can provide a little challenge. We can choose easy or hard for the puzzles as well, for those who want more challenge. I always demo in the easy mode to get a feel for the game, then move to hard when I replay them. We do have my favorite map. Rather than a transport, the map opens and shows you where you need to go. Areas are identified by name and picture. The map also shows you where you have missed a collectible. For more challenge, you can turn this feature off.
Collectibles are well done. We have 15 monster photos to find and 15 newspaper articles as well. These items can be anywhere. Some are easy to spot, others you only see a piece of, so be on the look out. We also have 71 rolls of film to find. These are found in close up scenes. They are large enough to see, but easy to over look. These are like finding coins. The more you find, the more items you can purchase in an extra room. Nicely done.
I found myself drawn into this story very quickly. It is different, interesting and well done. The demo was over all too quickly for me. I think all levels of players will find this one well worth the price of a CE. I do not give 5 stars easily, and because of the blurring, this one didn't get them either. I did feel is was worth a 4.75. Yes, I am adding this one to my extremely long list of CE games.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and not the story line, as others do a much better job of that than I. Again, we have the Energizer Bunny...this series just keeps going and going. Graphics are well done, but as usual, there is some fuzz to them. Animation is quite well done with appropriate facial features and smooth movements. Colors, although a bit faded, are well done and seem to fit the atmosphere of the game. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo. Voices are well done, with some fear, urgency, and our "bad guy" has a creepy sinister voice and face. Otherwise, not a lot of dialog yet. Sound FX, which again include the sounds of a winter storm, are well done. Music seems only present when something is happening or about to happen.
HOPs are varied and have an interesting set up. You have a variation of interactive lists, morphing items and HOPs within a HOP. Scenes are clean and clear and items are not difficult to find. I did not see that you could switch to something else. Puzzles are challenging without being overly difficult. They do take some time and thought to complete. The hint system is quite helpful, but I did not see that it transported you to longer locations. It wouldn't be the first game that had that feature show up as the game progresses. The jump map also saves you time, but I found it to be rather bland and boring.
Collectibles were a little disappointing but okay. We need to find 16 morphing items that all seem to be pumpkin pictures. Not hard to find at all. We also have
36 ghost figures to find. They are all the same and plenty large enough to see. No real challenge here at all.
The opening scene is very well done and makes you want more. Then the story slows down, with bits of pieces thrown in here and there as to why things were happening. Of course, we stayed with the Halloween theme that seemed much like Haunted Hotel. I did get a little tired of hearing the creeps voice so much and we did have to choose dialog whenever we used the phone. Fortunately, that wasn't much. That said, this addition to this series, fits with with this time of year. If you are into creepy, you will like this one. I did give it a 4.5 in hopes that the story picks up soon, and the challenging puzzles. I do feel it is a predictable story, but I like it well enough to add it to my collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!

Hello friends! We have another addition to this series, didn't look to see which number this was. As always, I review mostly on the game play and not the story, as others do a better job of that than I. This game has very nice graphics, I didn't notice much blurring at all. Colors are quite nice, but not over powering. There wasn't a lot of animation during the demo, but what we had is very well done. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo and the scene fit my large screen very well. Voice overs are nice and are age and character appropriate, with some emotion, fear, urgency and not just someone reading a script. Didn't really notice a lot in the way of sound FX, but we did have some. Music was the usual for this series.
HOPs are nothing new and I didn't see that you could switch to something else. We have interactive HOPs, lists and highlighted words. Scenes are fairly clear and items are not difficult to spot. Puzzles were not difficult at all, but a couple did take a little time and thought to complete. The hint system is very helpful, but it did not transport you to longer locations during the demo. Hopefully that changes as the game progresses. We do have the jump map and areas are clearly identified by name and picture. The map does show you that you may have missed a collectible.
Collectibles are not bad. We have to find 56 cats. This sounds simple, but it certainly is not. There is more than one in each scene and, even though they are various colors, they are almost opaque and not easy to see. You also collect morphing objects, which are also not easy to spot. This is the challenge in this game.
When I beta tested this game, I wasn't too keen on it. It is not easy to get a feel for a game when the demo is so short, but playing it a second time helped. The story line is all about treasure from various fairy tales. These treasurer are integrated into the story line quite well. The game was easy to follow and flowed quite well. I think this will appeal to all levels of players. I like this one well enough to play it out and see what happens. Yes, I am adding this addition to my CE collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on!
I recommend this game!
