Hi all! I believe this is #8 or 9 in this series. I apologize in advance, as I just could not get through the demo. Rarely do I find a game I just do not care for and even more rare do I not find something good to say about it anyway. This game has those awful blue hues, and even a lot of brassy colors that are very tiring on the eyes. Graphics are pretty nice, game play was good. Voices were very boring and dull, with no emotion and often dialog that just seemed to come out of the blue for no reason, e.g. I don't think I'll need my ID, but I am a chemical engineer, or something like that. Made no sense for the scene. Sound FX okay, but the grunting noises of our ferret friend got very annoying very quickly.
HOPs are nothing new and items were not difficult to find. Puzzles were the same as any other game and just seemed to be thrown together. Granted, I did not complete the demo, but I did not see any transport. The hint system was helpful.
Collectibles were 36 puzzle pieces, quite easy to spot. Also had 34 morphing objects, which in some cases were extremely small and hard to see. I just happened to catch on during the morph or I would have missed it.
As you can see, this is not my ususal review, but I didn't complete the demo either. There will be those who like this game and don't mind the colors. I found this game to be geared more toward a true beginner and not someone who has been playing HOPs for any length of time. The game moved very slowly and had absolutely no challenge and nothing to keep me interested. Personally, I think it's time to retire this series. No, I will not be adding this one to my collection and seriously doubt that I will add the SE version either.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews.
Hi all! Well, we have #5 in this series. As always, I mostly review on the game play, rather than the story, as others do a much better job than I can on that piece of the game. I love this series and this addition is no exception. I beta tested this one back in September and couldn't wait for it to come out. Excellent graphics, very clear and crisp, with the exception of a little blurring when you go in and out of a closeup scene...why can't they fix that? Game play was also quite good, with no problems during the demo, and the scene fit my large screen very well. Colors are very clean and bright, very true. Animation is exceptional, with perfect mouth and eye movements. I like how your hand reaches into the scene to pick something up, rather than just have it appear in your inventory. Very well done. Voice overs are age and character appropriate and the dialog even has emotions, urgency, etc. Nicely done as well. Do be aware that there is a very bright light when you travel through the portal, just as in the last game in this series. I really like how you can choose the path you wish to take, e.g., good/evil; live/death; save/ignore, etc. Don't know if it changes the outcome if you choose the other, but it was fun.
HOPs are nothing new, but they are very clean and clear and items are not difficult to find. We have a very nice combination of interactive HOPs, silhouettes and straight lists. You can switch to a match 3 game if you do not care for the HOPs. Nicely done. Loved the way the puzzles were set up. You have the option within the puzzle to play easy or hard, not just one size fits all. The easy isn't as easy as you may think. I did not see the transport feature, but it may show up later in the game. Maybe I haven't traveled far enough yet. I didn't notice a tremendous amount of back tracking in this one either. Hint is very helpful when you need it. SG is the standard. Really like the jump map in this series. Areas are very clearly marked and identified, in color and also show if you have found all the collectibles or not. It does not tell you what you missed, you need to figure that out yourself.
Lots of collectibles, which I really like in a game. We need to find 20 artifacts, which in most cases are quite small and hard to find; 22 character statuettes which are not difficult to find; 20 morphing objects which morph quickly so be on the lookout...they say they are mythical creatures; and 63 flowers, which are easy to spot and easy to miss. Really like the variety of collectibles.
This series just gets better and better. The story is well done and easy to follow. I really got into the game from the very beginning and was quite disappointed when the demo ended. It is challenging enough to keep you moving and interested. I rarely give 5 stars to any game unless it is exceptional. Well, as much as I love this game, it still does not get 5 stars...it gets 4.75, mostly because of the blur in closeup scenes. I think all levels of players will find this one fun and challenging. Yes, I am definitely adding this one to my ever growing collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hello, friends! Back from Christmas Holiday, feeling great and happy to be back playing my games. Hope you all had a great Holiday as well! As always, I mostly review on the game play and leave the story line to others who do a much better job than I. This is #2 in this series, and what a nice addition it is. This game has excellent graphics, very clear, with bright clear true colors. They much improved the color over the first one in this series. Game play was excellent, I found no glitches or lag time between scenes, and animation was very smooth and nicely done. The game fit my large screen quite well. Excellent voice overs, very well done and dialog can be clicked through if you read faster than they speak. They are age and character appropriate, and actually showed emotion, e.g., anger, fear, and just plain nasty where needed. The music was well done, not over powering and because of the great sound FX, was not used all that much. Sound FX are exceptionally well done and has that edge of your seat feeling and makes a game feel more realistic.
HOPs are very nicely done and are varied highlighted words; word hints; find items relating to emotions, etc. The scenes are clear and items are not difficult to find. I did not see that you could switch to something else if you didn't care for the HOPs. There are morphing items in the HOPs. These are not that easy to spot either, so be on the lookout for them. Some of the puzzles were quite challenging. Not so much as to how hard they were to complete, but the need to actually use your brain to figure out what to do or where to go next. Of course, we also had some of the usual simple puzzles as well, e.g., match game, copy movements, etc. Hint system is helpful, but either there isn't a transport feature, or I haven't gone far enough for it to pop up and be useful. You don't do a great deal of back tracking, but there is some. I got so engrossed in the game that I didn't even look at the map, nor did I find the need to do so. This game flows very well.
Collectibles were a little disappointing. All I found are 41 lightning bolts that are quite large and easy to see. Didn't see anything else, but the game could have used a bit more in this department.
As I said before, I usually always just review on the game play and not the story line, but I will this time. I really like how this story starts out by giving you some highlights from the first one. It leads you into a new story, but explains a bit as to why these people are here and what they do. I found this story entertaining and a little different. This game drew me in from the opening scene, which very few do. It is full of action, adventure and enough challenge to keep you interested and wanting more. The first in this series was a very nice game, but this one is by far a much better game. I rarely give a game 5 stars. It has to be exceptional in all areas for that. The only reason I did not give this one 5, is because I felt the collectibles needed something more. Even at that, I gave this game a 4.75. I think all levels of players will find this one interesting, fun and challenging. Yes, I am going to add it to my collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hi all! More Christmas games...yay! This is a straight HOP game. I love these games. They are the same as the Cruise Director and Park Ranger games. They have beautiful color and very nice graphics, even though the eyes are still a bit creepy on the characters. You only have music, no voices, no real animation, except an occasional item that pops out of something else. twinkling lights and ornaments. I did note that the dog in Mom's kitchen was a very heavy breather.
It is a straight HOP game, and the scenes are cluttered. Some items are quite small, but you can still find them. You have to find 3 and sometimes 4 gold trees in every scene. The trees are various sizes and can be anywhere. We also have lost and found items that aren't as easy to see as you may think. If you find all of these items, you will get more coins to buy Christmas presents.
Puzzles are the same, but this time, they added a "match two items" puzzle. Otherwise, it is the same jigsaw puzzles, turn the pieces and the sliding game, which I do not care for.
As I said, I really like these games, eyestrain and all. There really isn't a story line in these games, just the hustle and bustle of Christmas fun and shopping. It's a nice cheery change for the Holidays. My grand kids love to help me find things in these games, and their eyes are a lot better than mine. Yep, I have already added this one to my collection. I think most all levels of payers will like this one.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
I recommend this game!

Myths of the World: Bound by the Stone Collector's Edition
Can you stop the evil beasts before it’s too late?
Hi all! Another Myths of the World game today. I do have all the others, but not all are CE versions. As always, I review on the game play and seldom on the story line, as others do a much better job of that than I. The graphics in this addition are the same as in all the others, very nice and well done, although we did have a little blur in close up scenes. Colors are bright and true. Game play was excellent, with no problems during the demo. For the most part, the voice are done very well. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of a more forceful voice for what I originally thought was the bad guy, but not a deal breaker. We don't have much in the way of sound FX, so hopefully that changes as the game progresses. I really liked the storm FX.
HOPs are a combination of lists and silhouettes, so far. They are fairly clear and items are not difficult to find. We do have morphing items in the HOPs, so be on the lookout for them. Puzzles are not too bad. Some are a little challenging, but only because they take a bit more time to complete. I do not care for the "block" puzzle at all! There is a lot of running back and forth, so put on your tennis shoes and get ready for it. A couple of times is okay, but there is way more than that in this one. Fortunately, we have a jump map that is okay. The best feature is the transport when you ask for a hint and need to go elsewhere. Hint system is quite helpful.
Collectibles are only wolf fangs and in most cases are quite large and easy to see. I actually didn't see the "fang" part of it at first. Some are hidden a little better than others. I was disappointed in the lack of nice collectibles.
I do like this series, but was a little disappointed in this one. It is very quiet, a lot of back tracking, not much character interaction or sound FX. It is a pretty simple and easy to follow game. I am hoping it picks up. I'm just not sure it is CE worthy. I will put this one in my puddle and wait for the SE. I often feel that the SE makes a much better game, so will hold off for now. I think most levels of players will find this game worth getting, either as an SE or a CE. I do recommend this game and either way, I will add it to my collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
I recommend this game!

Yuletide Legends: The Brothers Claus Collector's Edition
Hi all! A new addition to our annual Christmas games. As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others. The graphics in this game are extremely well done, very clear. Colors are very nice, even with an occasional faded look. Animation is a little choppy when you click on a close up scene, but still very well done. Voices are few and far between so far, but are age and character appropriate. Our "bad Santa" has a very sinister voice and sounds very realistic. Music is soothing. Sound FX are very nice and almost constant. Always knew Santa was magical, but didn't know he had these skills! You acquire a magic star to help break evil spells. Each time, you need to play a match 3 game. You also have a little helper in the way of a gingerbread man. He hasn't been used much so far.
HOPs are a nice combination of interactive lists, silhouettes and highlighted words. Scenes are clear and items are not difficult to find. I did not see that you could switch to something else if you do not care for the HOPs. Puzzles are simple, but fun and are well done. Hint system is very helpful and it does transport to other locations when needed. I didn't even find the need to look at the map.
Collectibles are very well done. We need to find 40 morphing puzzles pieces. I found that sometimes I can't get them until the morph into the puzzle piece. These are fairly large pieces and easily seen, but morph quickly, making it more difficult to find in the first place. Once you have these pieces, you need to put together 4 puzzles. We also need to find crystal lights to open 10 presents that contain character figurines. The are fairly large, but these are a little more difficult to see because they blend well into whatever background they are in. Naturally, they are not in every scene and easy to forget about.
I love the Christmas story games, and this one is no exception. It is fun, entertaining and has something for everyone, which makes it a great game to play with, or without, the grand kids. I don't feel this one is worth 5 stars, because of the choppy movements, but the story is a little different and it is well done, so I'm thinking at least a 4.5. It is a very nice game. Yes, I am adding this one to my collection. I think all levels of players will enjoy this one.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hi all! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others who do a much better job than I. We have #12 in this series, and yes, I have them all. Excellent graphics, very clear. Colors are true and nice. Game play is excellent, no problems during the demo and it fit my large screen quite nicely. The voice overs are well done, age and character appropriate, and actually show emotion, when we have them. There is not a lot of character interaction in this version and I wasn't too fond of the "whispering" voice our villain has, but otherwise well done. Animation is exceptional, e.g. eye and mouth movements, running, etc. Music is mostly soothing until something is about to happen, then increases in intensity. Sound FX are well done when used, so there is no lag in sound during play. Yep, we still have our helper, Elf. He isn't used a lot and is very quiet, but also quite helpful when needed. He looks kind of cute in his little protective suit.
HOPs are silhouettes, picture parts and interactive lists. Scenes are a bit more cluttered than in previous games in this series, which makes it somewhat difficult to quickly find an item, but not impossible. I did not see where you could switch to something else if you did not care for the HOPs. Puzzles are not difficult, but a few do take some time and thought to complete. Hint system is very helpful and it does transport to longer locations. This is a good feature, as you do a lot of back tracking. You have a jump map, but I seldom use it, since we have the transport. SG is the standard set up and does show you where collectibles can be found, in case you missed one.
Nice combination of collectibles. We have to find morphing items that replenish your air supply. There was some disease that broke out, so you need to wear a gas mask. You can turn off this feature, but I found that it does continue to use the air anyway. If you are out of air, you cannot proceed until you find another morphing object. They are fairly easy to spot, but are not in every scene. We also have puzzle pieces...okay, they call them fresco pieces. These can be anywhere and are large enough to see, but easy to overlook because they aren't shaped like a jigsaw puzzle piece. We also have to find playing cards. Not sure what these do yet.
As I said, I review on the play and not the story...however, this story seems very familiar to me. Maybe I beta tested it, but I didn't have it on my beta list. This one is not really challenging, but for some reason, I found I wanted to play on and see what happens and why. There isn't as much action in this game as in others in this series, but I didn't get bored either. I think all levels of players will find this one interesting. I love this series and so yes, I am adding this one to my collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hi all! Well, we have #2 in this series. As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others who do a much better job than I. This one is very much the same as the first, with excellent graphics and beautiful true colors. Game play was great, with no problems during the demo and the scene fit my large screen quite well. Voices are extremely well done, being age and character appropriate, and showed emotion, fear, pain, etc. This game has a lot of character interaction, which makes it seem more realistic and not just walking through a game playing puzzle after puzzle. Animation was well done and movements were very smooth. Unlike the first one in this series, you did not need to choose dialog, which I really don't care for...no such thing in this one. Sound FX are all quite well done. Music is nice for a change and moves with whatever is happening in the scene at the time. During the demo, we had a weasel as a helper. Don't know if he will last the entire game or not, but he was no bother and was very helpful.
So far, the HOPs are just interactive lists, but maybe they change as you progress. I did not see that you can switch to a match 3 or anything else. Items are not difficult to find and scenes are pretty clean. Puzzles were not difficult, but I did run into one that took me a bit of time to complete. Hint system is very helpful, but I did not see that it transports to longer locations. You don't really do that much long distance back tracking. The jump map is easy to follow and areas are well marked. This is the time saver for running to other locations. SG is the standard for all CE games, and easy to follow if you get lost or need help.
The only collectibles I found are portrait puzzle pieces to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Don't know what happens when that is done, but we will see. These pieces are not shaped like a puzzle piece, but are fairly easy to see and are quite colorful. The collectibles are not challenging and I was disappointed in the lack of more. Morphing objects or something would have been nice.
I really like this game and even though the story line is very much the same, it was interesting and well done. You are constantly on the move in this one, with plenty of action, so you don't get bored. I did not find this one all that challenging, but I find the need to play this out and see where it goes, so yes, I am going to add this one to my collection. I think this game will appeal to all levels of players. Again, I do not automatically give any game 5 stars. A game has to be exceptional in all areas to get that number, and because of the lack of extra collectibles, I downgraded a bit. Still, it's at least a 4.75! Even at that, I do believe it is CE worthy.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for his one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hello friends! Well, we have #3 in this wonderful series. As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others to review. As usual, the graphics in this game are excellent, very clear and perfectly done, with the exception of a little fuzziness now and then when going in or out of a scene. Fortunately it is not often and not too bad. Animation is so realistic and mouth and eye movements are right on. Voices are very well done and are age and character appropriate, with fear, urgency, the works. I especially like how you can click through the dialog if you read faster than they speak, and not miss any insight into what is happening or why. Colors are bright, clear and true. Music is very nice and moves with whatever is happening in the scene at the time. Sound FX are wonderful and are exactly as they should be for what is happening at the time. The only "helper" you have is actually an anti-gravity scepter, which does come in quite useful frequently. Of course, you do have to recharge it after each use, but you also can't use it if it is not needed in a scene.
HOPs are exceptionally well done and are quite varied, so you don't get bored. We have a combination of highlighted words; interactive silhouettes, match pairs and find the differences so far. If for some reason you want more change, you can switch to a match 3 game. Puzzles are also quite varied and go hand in hand with challenge. The best part is that you can choose easy or hard on every puzzle. They take time and thought to complete and are very well done. Hint system is very helpful, but there is no transport map as such. Instead, the jump map automatically opens and shows you where to go when needed. It also shows you where collectibles are and may have been missed. You can also turn this feature off if you want some extra challenge.
Collectibles! Wow, great collectibles. We need to find pieces of film, which are not hard to see, but easy to overlook. Once you find them, from 4 to 14 pieces in each reel, you watch the reel and get more insight into what is happening and why. I only completed one reel and part of another during the demo. We also have to find 20 of Maxwell's inventions. These can be very weird objects, and different sizes, but haven't been difficult to find. And then we have 14 prototype inventions that morph in and out. Again, large enough to see, but easy to overlook as they morph fairly quickly and are all various sizes and items.
I beta tested this game back in August. In fact, I wrote BF yesterday and asked when a number of really good games are going to be released. I was pleasantly surprised to see this one today. I love everything about this series. Unlike others, I do not give five stars to every game that comes along. In fact, I rarely give five stars, unless a game is exceptional throughout. This one comes very close. If it weren't for the occasional blurry cut, it would have it. That said, I still give it a solid 4.75. This one has a really nice story, fun and challenging puzzles, really good collectibles and enough action to keep you moving and wanting more. I think this game will appeal to all levels of players. I am most definitely adding this one to my collection!
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
Hello friends! I believe this is #9 in this series. I have a number of these, but not all. If you have played any of the others in this series, then you know all about this one. Graphics aren't bad, but somewhat fuzzy now and then. Colors are pretty nice for the most part. Game play was good and the scene fit my large screen nicely. Voices are age and character appropriate, but are few and far between, as there is not a lot of character interaction during the demo. There doesn't seem to be a lot of emotion in the voices either. Sound FX are okay when we have them, but mostly we have music. Now, the music is soothing, but really not what you would expect for this type of story like and for what is happening in the scenes at the time. Disappointing to say the least. Yes, we have the creepy dwarf as usual. I really don't see any need for him in any of these latest stories.
HOPs are mostly just lists and find pairs. There isn't anything else you can switch to when you get bored with the same old HOP. The HOP scenes are okay, but some are a little cluttered. Puzzles are not bad. Some were a little challenging, but mostly quite simple and boring. Hint system is quite helpful, but it does not transport to longer locations. This would have been helpful, as you do a lot of back tracking to the same locations. Yes, there is a jump map that does the same...just an extra "click."
Collectibles were just 12 very large and very easy to spot skulls. We also had to find 5 suns, clouds and snowflakes to recharge the weather stone. What is the weather stone and what does it do? Unknown. Extremely disappointing.
If you haven't guess by now, this game did not excite me at all. It moved very slowly, the story is the old Frankenstein with a twist, it had no challenge and I found it to be somewhat boring. Someone who has never played any games in this series may find it okay, but not those of us who have played them all. I think they are popping this series out too quickly and the quality has gone way down. I do not give 5 stars to a game easily and by the same token, I rarely do not recommend a game. I try to find something good in order to at least recommend for beginners, but not this time. Personally, I feel this one either needs a major overhaul, or just retired completely. This one was very disappointing for me and definitely no buy.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews.
