Hi all! Wow, we have #11 in this series and probably one of the better ones lately. Graphics are excellent. Colors are a bit muted, but you are in a haunted house, so you need the "creepy" feel. Game play was excellent, no problems during the demo and the scene fit my large screen perfectly. I really liked the sound FX, but wish they continued throughout the game. They just seem to be hit and miss and at times, the game is very quiet. Music moves with what is happening at the time and can put you on the edge of your seat, if you really get into the game. Voice overs are well done, character and age appropriate. In the beginning, the VO didn't match up with the mouth movements, but that quickly cleared up as the game progressed.
HOPs are the same as usual and are fairly clear, so items are not difficult to find. You have interactive lists, match items and straight lists. Puzzles weren't difficult for the most part. The only one I found that took me a while to complete is the rotating fans. Got a little frustrated with that one. You put together jigsaw puzzles to gain more insight into what is happening and why...almost too many puzzles. You do a heck of a lot of running back and forth for one item or another in this game, so put on your tennis shoes. Fortunately, you have a jump map and the hint system does transport you to longer locations...huge time saver. Hint system is very helpful and actually gives you a hint when you ask for it, rather than saying "nothing more here."
You have a lot of collectibles in this one, which I do like. You need to find 20 crystal balls, which are very easy to spot, you just have to remember to pick them up; 25 morphing objects which can be a bit tricky; and tarot cards. Not many cards, so easily overlooked.
I like this series and found this one to be more fun and interesting than the last couple. You don't have a creepy, run down hotel to investigate this time, it's actually quite nice. You still have spider webs, but not many. Why is it the devs make us find so many different things to complete one action, e.g. found a tongs to pull things out of the crack in the floor, but then had to find a hair clip to pull a paperclip out of a keyhole. Why can't we just keep the tongs? This game is not especially challenging or difficult, but I think all levels of players will find this one interesting. Yes, I am going to add it to my ever growing collection.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi all! Well, we have #6 in this series. I found that the graphics were quite well done, very clear. Colors were true and animation was very nice, with cold breath and all. Game play was excellent, as usual. Voice overs were well done, age and character appropriate and actually showed emotion, e.g., fear, excitement, etc. You can click through dialog if you read faster than they speak most of the time, but some areas you were stuck listening to the entire conversation. Would be nice if they did one or the other. Sound FX are extremely well done. Just hearing the icy wind made me feel cold. Music was so unobtrusive that I didn't really hear it, just sound FX.
HOPs were a nice combination of interactive silhouettes, standard lists, and one with nothing but morphing items. There is a morphing object in the HOPs, so be on the lookout, as it is not as easy to see as you may think. If you don't care for the HOPs, you can play the bubble popper game. The scenes were fairly clean and clear and items were not difficult to find. Mini games were mostly simple, but I did run across one that took me quite some time and frustration to complete. Hint system is helpful, but there is no transport in this game. The jump map is all you get, but the areas are well identified with active objectives, so you either use the jump map or just keep clicking the back button until you get to your location. You do a lot of back tracking in this game, so I would recommend the map.
The only collectibles I found were 42 signs that, to me, looked like an odd shaped, rusty Saturn planet. They don't jump off the page at you, but they aren't difficult to find either. Other than that, we just have the 12 morphing items in the HOPs. Somewhat disappointing.
When I beta tested this one, I found it to be a bit boring and did not score it very highly. It would seem that the devs read the suggestions and made a couple of changes. However, not enough to make this game different or challenging. The story wasn't bad, but predictable, as are most of the games these days. Please devs, I am so tired of the sleepy, blinking eye! Again, this would make a nice lazy day game, but I'm not sure it is CE worthy, even with the 2-4-1 sale. I will recommend this game for beginners and for those of us who just want to play a game or need one to use for the special. For me, I'll put this one in my puddle and give the SE version a try and see if I like it better. I find that frequently, the CE makes a much better SE and save myself a little money.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the review.

Hi all! Well, we have #4 in this series. As always, I review on the game play and not usually the story line, as others do a much better job on that than I. I beta tested this one a while back and it tested far better than the demo today. Not sure what happened, but the graphics were quite fuzzy during cut scenes and close-ups. My poor old eyes didn't much care for that at all. Colors were pretty bright and clear. For the most part, the game play was good, except for some choppy movements in the animation. As I said, the beta was much better and didn't have these problems at all. Music was soothing and quiet. There weren't a lot of sound FX, which would have helped this game a lot. Voice overs were nice, age and character appropriate, but few and far between. You can skip dialog if you read faster than they speak, but not in all scenes.
HOPs were a nice combination of interactive and standard lists and find the difference between two pictures. They were pretty clean and items were not difficult to find. I believe I only found 3 and I played it to the end of the demo. If you didn't want to play the HOP, you could play the match 3, which I didn't. You collect power ups for the match game, but since I didn't try it, I don't know what they do for you. I would imagine they help you move through the puzzle faster. Puzzles were few, but fairly simple. I had one that took me a bit of thought and time to complete. Jump map is helpful and rather than an automatic transport window, the map opens up to show you where you can go next. Areas of interest are clearly marked. You do quite a lot of back-tracking in this game, but it isn't constantly to the same location. I liked how you actually play the part of the hero and the heroine by switching characters during the game. It does tell you when to switch in custom mode.
A few collectibles. You need to find 14 ancient artifacts, which are small and hard to distinguish; 38 olive branches, which are fairly large but tucked away in a cut scene. You use the olives to buy items for the boudoir...okay not exciting. You also find the match 3 power ups that I mentioned above, which are hidden just about anywhere and easy to overlook. Same old achievements as in other games.
I found that I liked the story for some reason, but was not kicked out about the buried heads. That was creepy and unsettling to me and really wasn't necessary to the game or story. That alone makes this game not "family" friendly. The one problem I did have in the demo was that it took multiple "clicks" to take items out of the box that pops up when you finish a HOPs and earn an item. That frustrates me. When I beta tested this one, I gave it a 4.5, but I was disappointed in the final release, so that score is going to be lower. I'm sure a lot of people will love this game, but I'm just not sure about it as it is, so I will put it in my puddle for now. I will recommend this one and hope for a fix for the choppy movements and probably buy it if a really good sale comes along.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi all! Well, we have #3 in this series...yes, got the other two. As always, I mostly review on the game play and not the story, as others do a much better job than I. Even though this game felt like an old school type game, it had very nice graphics and animation. Colors started out with a lot of blue and pinks..aaarrrgh, but cleared up for the most part as the game progressed. Game play was very good, no problems during the demo and the scenes fit my large screen quite well. Voice overs were pretty nice, when you had any. You could click through dialog if you read faster than they speak, but you could miss important information if you do. This game was quite quiet as far as dialog and sound FX. They just sort of faded in and out at will. The music also faded in and out and occasionally changed up to a suspenseful sound, indicating that something might happen..it didn't. Again, old school.
HOPs were silhouettes, find this part and use it there to get that part to use somewhere else. Boring, but the scenes were fairly clean and items were not all that difficult to find once you got on a roll and figured out which one to find first. I did not see that you could switch to another game. These are few and far between as well. Puzzles were quite simple, nothing new or nothing that would tax your brain. I about started to scream when the "fit the pattern" parts game just kept going and going. I stopped counting at 6 patterns. The hint button took 15 seconds to recover and skip took 30...again, old school. Hint system is helpful but does not transport to longer locations, and you do a lot of back-tracking in this one. Jump map is helpful in this respect and it also indicates if you have missed a collectible or morphing item in a scene.
There are a lot of collectibles in this game, which I do like. You need to find 9 shields; 9 apples; 9 treble clef; 8 statuettes; 16 collectible cards and 35 morphing objects. Some of these collectibles are quite easy to see, others are not. The morphing items pop in and out quite quickly, so be on the look out. Some scenes have more than one items to find. This is where the map is helpful. It shows you where you missed something.
I beta tested this one a while back and gave it only a 2 because of problems. I see that the devs must have actually read the suggestions for this game, so I upgraded a bit. One thing I didn't see was a Strategy Guide. Did I miss it or isn't there one in the CE version? This game was a long way from challenging, the story is nothing new and there really wasn't anything that made me want to buy it. I'm not sure what makes this game CE worthy, I just don't see it. However, I did like all the collectibles. If a really hot sale comes along, I will get the CE version. This game will probably appeal to most players, especially those of use who just want a lazy day, no brainer game. This is it.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi all! Well, we have #5 in this series...yep, got the other 4 and really liked them. Graphics were well done and game play was quite good. I have no problem with scenes fitting my large screen. I was a bit disappointed in the color. Yes, it was quite bright, almost too bright, but still had that blue and pink hue. For those of you who don't care for really bright lights, be warned that they do happen when you are "time traveling." Voice overs are high pitched, but okay. Music moved with what was happening in the scene at the time, so it could put you on the edge of your seat if you really get into it.
HOPs are nothing new, standard lists and find parts and put them in the scene. I only found two during the demo, which was quite short. Items were not difficult to find and the HOPs were fairly clean. These were disappointing. If you wish, you can switch to a Match 3 game. Puzzles weren't difficult, but one did take me a little time. Hint system is helpful and it does transport you to longer locations. Jump map is easy to follow and areas of interest are clearly marked, with only one area being opened at a time. Sound FX are not bad at all, but not much during the demo. Didn't care for the inventory bar being in a cloud. It made it difficult to see some of the items, depending on the color.
The only collectibles I found are very large marbles. There are 36 to be found and they are quite easy to spot. Again, disappointing. I only looked at the SG to make sure I wasn't missing some other collectibles. Nope, there weren't any.
This game made me think someone must have had some really bad dreams in order to come up with this story. I've played many with crazies running around and all, but for some reason, this one was somewhat creepy and disturbing in some scenes. Almost too much crazy. I did like that you could choose which direction you wanted the game to go, e.g., calm the horse or start the fire engine...I calmed the horse; gently calm or slap into reality...I slapped. Seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I'm not sure this game will appeal to all players, but it isn't really challenging and the collectibles left a lot to be desired. It just seemed to move too slowly for me. I seldom cannot find something good about a game, in order to recommend it for others, even if I don't care for it myself. However, the only thing I liked was the ability to choose your next move, but that alone did not make me want to buy this game. No, I will not purchase this one.
As always, I recommend that you give it a try for yourself and see what you think. This is my personal take on the game and you may find that you liked it. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi all! Well, we have #4 in the Park Ranger series, but #6 in the Vacation Adventures series. As you can see from my previous reviews of this series, I do like this series. The colors are very bright and nice. Game play was excellent. Graphics aren't bad, except those creepy eyes and the boy either needs to smile with his mouth closed or get braces. He just looks weird to me. Music gets very monotonous very quickly, so I turn it way down. There are no voice overs, just written dialog, but it can be skipped without skipping any part of the story as such.
HOPs...well, this is all HOPs. Yes, some items are extremely small, and the scenes are pretty much junk piles, but take your time and you will find them. Last game in this series seemed to have larger items, but they went backward with this one. The real challenge is finding the park animals and garbage. They can be very well hidden in tricky places and blend in well with scenery. If you get stuck, the hint is helpful, but if you use it, you will not earn all the coins you can to purchase park items. The hint does not help you find the animals or the garbage. You are on your own with those. You do have various types of puzzles thrown in for something different and not just straight HOPs. No, not difficult, but can take a little time.
These are fun, no brainer kind of games and a nice change from the usual. Anyone who just wants something different on a lazy day will like this series. Yes, I am going to add to to my collection. Give it a try and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi friends! As always, I review on the game play and not much on the story line. We have #3 in this series about, yep you guessed it, Vampires. The graphics were actually quite good, very clear. Game play was quite good, no problems and the scenes fit my large screen quite well. Colors are nice and true for a change. You spend a lot of time in a cemetery, so you don't want the colors to be too bright. It's supposed to be a bit gloomy. Music fits the surroundings and what is happening at the time. Voice overs are well done, age and character appropriate, and actually have a little emotion thrown in. You can skip through dialog, if you read faster than they speak, without missing any of the story line or clues that may come up. There hasn't been a lot of animation yet, but what there is has been very nice.
HOPs are a variety and well done. You have interactive HOPs, straight lists and place items in scene. They are fairly clean and clear and items are not difficult to find. You do have to think a little when in one of the IHOPs. If you don't care for the HOPs or want something a little different, you can switch to the match 3 game. Puzzles were not difficult, or challenging. Hint system is helpful, except when it says "nothing to do here." Please, give me a hint when I need one. There is no transport for longer locations and you do back-track a lot in this game. Fortunately we have a jump map...very generic, very plain, but it works. However, you have more than one location opened at a time, so you may do a bit of running around to find out where you really need to be. About the only thing I didn't care for was the "blurred" picture every time you jumped...not good on the eyes.
The only collectibles I found were 52 mardi gras type masks. These masks morph in and out quite quickly, which is the challenge. They blend into their background, but become quite colorful when you find one. Might take you a few seconds to spot them, not as easy as you may think. Not a "collectible," but you take pictures of some scenes, then go back to the lab to develop the picture. You use these pictures as you move through the game, allowing you to open things, follow a path, etc. You just click the reverse arrow in the bottom right corner and it transports you back to your last location. Big time saver.
I beta tested this one way back in July of last year and was wondering when it would come out. I really like the story line in this one, not just the usual vampire story. I was drawn into it fairly quickly. No, there isn't a lot of challenge, but I liked it and I find the need to play it out and see what happens. I will purchase this one for my collection. I think this one will appeal to all levels of players for one reason or another.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews! HAPPY EASTER!

Hi all! As always, I usually do not review on the story line, as others do a much better job of that than I. Well, we have #6 in this series. Yes, I have them all. The graphics are very nice in this game, better than the first few in the series. Game play was very good, no problems during the demo and the scene fit my large screen quite nicely. Colors seemed a little washed out to me, more pastel, which made them looked a bit fuzzy. Animation was pretty nice. Voice overs were okay, but at first sounded a little over the top and forced, like someone trying to act but couldn't. They did get a little better as the game progressed. I was disappointed in how short the demo was. I beta tested this one back in December and it seemed the game play was longer. Music was fairly monotone and boring, so I usually turn it down for a little background noise. Sound FX aren't bad, but then, you are in a castle, so what noise can you hear?
HOPs were okay, nothing new, just interactive lists and storybook type riddles where you find a couple of highlighted words. Items were not difficult to find. Puzzles were extra simple and took no real brain power to complete. Very disappointing. Hint system is helpful, but I did not see that it transported to longer locations. Okay, during the demo, we didn't do all that much traveling except within 4 or 5 rooms of the castle. SG is the usual and is easy to follow.
The only collectibles are jewels, which when collected turn into money to purchase items. For what reason, I am not sure. There definitely needed to be something extra in this department. These jewels can be single or multiple in each scene and are not all that easy to spot. I believe I also found a couple in the HOPs. It's not a collectible, but you use an amulet to hunt for and destroy thorny flowers in a scene, which will then allow you to travel into another scene/room in the game. I believe the thorny plant is the magic the bad guy uses to try to keep you away from him.
As I said, I usually do not review on the story. However, I will this time, as this story is nothing new. You have a brother who wants it all and does whatever he can to take over everything and destroy his brother and his family. I found this to be a little boring for me, and geared more toward the beginner rather than a seasoned gamer. There wasn't really any challenge anywhere, except to remember to look for the jewels. I did not feel that this game was CE worthy. I will give it another try when the SE comes out and see if I like it better. Unless there is a very good sale, I won't get this one as a CE. I will recommend it for beginners, or for those of use who just want to skate through a game to kill time. I do that sometimes too.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews.

Hi friends! Wow, I think this is the 9th in this series...will it never end? No, I don't have them all. As always, I review on the game play and not usually on the story. The graphics were very nice in this one. Animation is well done. Colors...well, again we have the blues and purples, which are very tiring on the eyes. They did seem to clear up a little as the game progressed. Game play was very good, no problems during the demo and the scenes fit my large screen very well. Voice overs were okay, but our heroine's voice did get a little grating at times. It was almost too high a pitch. Music was the same as all the others, but I turn it way down for background noise more than anything else.
HOPs weren't too bad. They were fairly clean and items were not hard to find. There was some variation, but not a lot. Puzzles were quite simple and took no time to complete. I like the way they set up their maps, very easy to follow and each area is identified with name and a picture. There is no transport in this series, and you do a lot of back tracking. SG is the usual and standard, which I only use to make sure I get the collectibles.
There are a lot of collectibles in this series, which I do like. We need to collect 6 each of items belonging to an artist, journalist, family heirlooms, little girl and ignorance and flames (not sure what that is, since I haven't found one yet). They don't jump off the page at you and can be anywhere. This is somewhat of a challenge. The other challenge is finding the morphing objects, a they morph fairly quickly. So far, I have found one collectible and one morphing object in each scene.
I beta tested this one back in November. Took long enough for it to come out. It tested much better then, so I'm not sure after this much time, what they did to change it. I like this series and I like the collectibles, but I'm just not sure this one is CE worthy. Maybe a really good special will change my mind. I think most all levels of players will enjoy this one in any form. Yes, I will get it, but I'm not sure if it will be the CE version.

Hi all! Well, we have #3 in this series...yes, I have the other two. As always, I review mostly on the game play and not the story line, as others do a much better job on that than I. As with the others in this series, the graphics are exceptional, very clear, very well done. Colors have a little orange hue to them, but that just comes and goes, depending on where you are at the time. Not over-powering at all. Otherwise, they are clear and nice. Game play was excellent, no problems during the demo and the scene fit my large screen very nicely. The voice overs are extremely well done, with emotion for a change! I loved the animation, e.g., putting on the hat in the very first scene, well done. Facial features are also very well done and fit what is being said or done at the time. Sound FX are perfect for the setting and background sounds. Music also fit the setting and time period, and I didn't have to turn it down for a change.
HOPs are a bit of a variation of lists, find this, place that there, etc. Scenes are clean and clear, no junk piles, and items are not difficult to find. Be on the lookout for the morphing items in the HOPs. I keep forgetting to look for them. They aren't that easy to spot. Either there isn't a transport feature, or I hadn't had to back track all that far yet in order to use it. However, the jump map is very useful and areas are well identified. Hint system is very helpful when needed, and actually gives you a hint and not just "move on." Puzzles, did we have puzzles? What I did run across was very simple to follow and figure out, and took no time at all to complete. This was an extremely short demo, so I didn't even look at the SG guide, but they all seem to be the same anyway.
Collectibles are 40 diamond shapes. They aren't actual jewels, but the shape of a cut diamond. They are large and easy to see. I didn't see anything else during the demo. A little extra collectible would have been nice.
I really like this series and when I beta tested it, I made a note to give it a 4.5. After playing it again, I think it deserves a 4.75. I down-graded because of the occasional "choose the dialog" that popped up. Don't care for those at all. Fortunately, it didn't happen often and seemed to lessen as the game progressed. I don't give 5 stars easily, a game has to be 100% exceptional to get them...this one was very close. This game is not really challenging, but everything else about it was exceptional and the story line drew me in quite quickly. I definitely have the need to play this one out and see what happens. I think all levels of players will find this one enjoyable. If you haven't done it yet, play the other two in this series. They are are quite good, with very nice story lines. Yes, definite buy for me.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews.
