We played the demo and purchased the game. The story seemed to start off a bit slow, but then it came alive with surprises and we got caught up in the story. There is also a "padlocked" icon on the beginning game screen. Since this isn't a collector edition, there must be some sort of bonus when the game is finished. There are controls for music & sound. There is also a no sound selection. The music is not annoying and the effects sounds make the game more enjoyable. There are no voice overs and minimum text to read. There are choices for full screen, keep original screen size and custom cursor. Game play modes of casual or expert. The cut scenes are very good & interesting. There is a journal to keep track of your adventure travels. The graphics are excellent and quite vivid. Hidden object scenes are mixed with regular with some interaction and find a number of objects. Good graphics make these fun and not too difficult. The mini games encountered were fun & fairly easy. We didn't use the hint system (yet) and we haven't finished the game so cannot comment on hint usefulness or the length of game play. So far, the game has been a fun adventure with a somewhat creepy, mad scientist, bug infested, killer plant story line. This is a good purchase!
We played the demo and had 9 minutes left when we got to the end. We had played the Collector edition before, so finished a bit faster since we knew some of where we needed to go. You can adjust for music, environment, effects & voices. You can change the graphics gamma, choose custom cursor and full screen. You can choose casual, advanced or hardcore game play. The characters are real people and cut scenes are done well. The diary has the option to replay cut scenes. The map is interactive so you can jump from one scene to another. The hint system is very helpful and we did use it. The hidden object scenes aren't cluttered. There was some interaction in the fact you may need to use something from your inventory. There was lots of interaction in finding items you needed to advance in the game. The mini games were fun and the "pipes" mini game had a fun twist. Unlike the Collector edition, we did not see there were achievements to obtain or the opportunity to collect bonus flowers for additional mini games. Based on that fact, if we were to purchase, it would be the Collector edition. We like achievements and bonus mini games are always fun.
The game starts off right away with a great movie cut scene that gets you started on the story. In options, there are choices of full screen, wide screen correction and custom cursors. You can adjust the music and sound volumes. The voice over was good and not annoying. The music was somewhat dramatic and we turned it down low. The art work was fantastic! There is a choice of casual & advanced modes of play. We have just played the demo, but on the extras tab, there is concept art, walk through and wallpapers. The walk through in the demo shows you through chapter 2. There are 7 chapters and bonus game play. There is a lot of back & forth. This really makes you think and remember where do you need that item and what to do to advance in the game play. It's not your typical hidden object scene. In this game you may click on an item and a circle opens showing that you need other items to open that area. If you don't need the item for that circle, it will go to your inventory. There are some mini games within the item search that are quite easy, although we thought the game play was a challenge and at the same time, great fun. There is a journal that details the story line. It also has a tasks list. We did need to use the hints system. It refilled fairly quick and was helpful. If there was nothing in that area, it would direct you where to travel, but did not count as a hint used. In the hour we played the demo, I don't think we made it past chapter 1, so this probably indicates lots of fun hours to play. All in all, this game was lots of fun and we are adding it to our list of buys.
This game had a great story line and lots of interaction. There were 3 choices for levels of game play and volume controls for sound. There was no journal, but the map (click on compass) was fantastic. You could jump from place to place and it had the goals for each area. There was a lot of back & forth so there was a lot of thinking involved on what object went where. This game was lots of fun. We played the demo for the collector edition, although we purchased the single edition. Not because we didn't think the collector edition worth it, but we had a free game to redeem.

Most of the mini games were somewhat of a challenge. We seldom play a game straight through, so we can't comment on total length of game play, although it seemed we played this off & on for a long time. This was a great purchase!
We played the demo and this is a great fun game. There is a choice between full screen & system cursor. There are volume controls for sound & music. Game play choices of casual, expert or hardcore. There is a tutorial and a journal that keeps track of the story line, tasks and characters. As the story unfolds, more is added to the characters page. The "shade" does come in to picture now & again and is quite ugly in a creepy monster sort of way. There are many achievements to attain and hidden fairies to find throughout the adventure. The hidden object scenes were mostly find a certain number of items. The mini games were fun. Some easy, some a bit difficult. The graphics art work is exceptional and the voice overs are pleasant. We made it far enough in the demo to get more involved in the story line and want to know how it ends, however, we are purchasing the single edition. Not because the collector edition isn't great, but because of the great Presiden'ts Sale going on, Hate to miss out on those sale prices! :) The game is great fun!
We played the demo and this is a buy for us. There is a choice between full screen & system cursor. There are volume controls for sound & music. Game play choices of casual, expert or hardcore. We made it far enough in the demo to get more involved in the story line and want to know how it ends. We have not finished the game so cannot comment on the length of game play. Regardless of length, it will be a great purchase as it was quite fun in the time we have played.
We got hooked on the story right away, although it was sinister & fairly creepy. We didn't know if we were saving the little girl or was she just as sinister as the "voice" that was heard now & again and we are curious as to the outcome of the story. There is a choice of full screen, interactive help & custom cursor. There are volume controls for effects, music & voice. The voice overs were great and the sinister man's "voice" really gave goosebumps and added a great effect to the story. There is a journal with objectives and clippings of newspaper articles found in the adventure. They do not seem to be in order as found, though. It was a bit confusing. There were quite a few hidden object and interactive scenes in the hour we played the demo. Some difficult, some not. We also played the demo for the collector edition and only marked it as ok. We got a bit further in the game play this time and got more involved in the story, so we changed our rating to we like the game. This single edition will be a buy for us with the President's Day sale price. The game is creepy, but fun. Since we have not finished playing we cannot comment on the length of game play.
We played the hour demo for this Collector edition game. There are adjustments for music, environment, effects & voices. You can change the graphics gamma, choose custom cursor and full screen. There is the choice of casual, advanced & hard core game play. There are many achievements to obtain. In the extras section there is bonus videos, wallpapers, extra mini games, music, concept art and a screen saver. During game play, you can collect bonus flowers for additional mini games. The game has real people as characters and cut scenes are done well. There is a diary that has the option to replay cut scenes and the map is interactive. There are 79 pages in the strategy guide, but we did not use to see if it was helpful or not. The hint system is very helpful. During the demo, we don't remember that there were a bunch of hidden object scenes. There was one that was interactive in the fact you had to use something from your inventory. There were a lot of scenes that an inventory object was needed, but we either hadn't found it yet or were not sure what actually was needed. The mini games were fun and the "pipes" mini game had a fun twist. We will wait until the single edition is released and play that demo to see if we change our mind about purchasing. The game was fun, but just didn't give us the "what happens at the end" feeling of wanting to truly find out.
Sort of on the fence on this game. The story line is interesting and we are curious to see how it ends, but will wait for the single edition to be released. There are volume adjustments for music and sound. You can choose full screen, system cursor & low quality. You can choose casual, advanced or hard game play. There were no voice overs, so you had to read the screen. During the cut scenes, the visuals moved rapidly. There is an option to find additional cats in the game play, but we are not sure what the bonus is for finding all. Some graphics are clean & crisp in the cut scenes. The graphics in the hidden object scenes were not so clear and you could not leave a scene unless you finished. We do have a problem with motion sickness if there is a lot of additional graphic movement in a game. In all the hidden object scenes we played, there was some sort of bug, mouse or other object that was moving at a rapid pace. By the end of the hour we were a bit nauseous from all that movement. Again, we will wait for the single version to make a decision based on the fact we want to see how the story ends.
