Not a bad little game; a bit repetitive for the first few levels, which was as much as I could tolerate.
Pretty basic builder-type TM, which I won't buy as a CE because it's not different enough. The usual wood/food/stone producing buildings, along with a lab and an HQ. The usual collecting wood/food/stone to reach certain goals. 3 levels of play including relaxed and you can turn off the tutorial; you won't need it anyway. You do get two bases to work from, which is a slight change but otherwise nothing to make it stand out from the crowd.
The reason I won't even buy the SE is that every time you send a worker to do anything, they say 'OK. Every time they pick up a resource. Every time they remove an obstacle. Every time they build or upgrade a building. Send 2 or more workers out to do something and you get an 'OK' chorus. After about half a dozen levels, it got so irritating that I had to stop playing. I don't want to turn the entire sound off as it spoils the atmosphere of the game but there's no option to stop the workers from speaking. This could have been a good game but unfortunately it's just repetitive and annoying.
I don't recommend this game.

I have all these Travel Mosaics games and bought this one without bothering with the trial. Having lived all my life in England, I was curious to see if the 'facts' about London would be correct. So far I've discovered that Tower Bridge is 'the most recognisable symbol of London'. Really?? Big Ben is far more recognisable, not to mention much more photographed! Incidentally, it's the bell that's called Big Ben, not the clock.
I've also discovered that Buckingham Palace is 'home' to many of the royals. It's not. A few of them have apartments or offices there but have main homes elsewhere. The Queen lives there only semi-permanently; she prefers Windsor Castle or Balmoral.
The game is the same as all the others, which is just as it should be; don't fix something if it's not broken! However they have changed the sounds, which is not a change for the better. Now it sounds like someone scrunching up paper rather than the pretty chiming sounds from previous games. The puzzles seem far too easy and the items to buy are disappointing stereotypes.
I like to play on the hard mode, which is very challenging but much more fun! As ever this is a good quality game but don't believe some of the London 'facts'; they're a bit outdated!
I recommend this game!

What have they done to my favourite TM game?? The saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but it seems that Alawar, having partnered with another developer, decided to 'fix' RT in spite of it being perfect as it was.
Out goes the familiar and in comes a whole new design. The colours are now muted rather than being crisp and clear, which gives a cluttered look to the scenes. All the characters have had an 'upgrade' and not for the better in my opinion. Even the game play has been altered, which made it confusing for someone who has every single RT game ever released.
As an example, you have a barbecue stall to get food if you're running low. This doesn't replace the burger cafes; it's an addition, assuming of course you remember it's there. There's also a store, where you buy tools, electrical wiring and assorted other things you now need to complete the game.
The usual buildings are still available but they seems to generate goods/money much slower; in addition there's now an annoying arrow bobbing up and down above any building that can be upgraded. I found it distracting and it made the
scenes look more cluttered than ever.
The SG is awful; the steps are no longer numbered but the buildings/plots are. So you look at the picture which for example, says plot number 7 but there's no step 7 in the written guide. It's just one long paragraph of instructions which I found hard to follow.
There are a lot more changes but mostly not for the better. The game was fine as it was; why 'fix' what isn't broken? I bought it without trying the demo; that was my mistake. I'm so disappointed with what's been done to RT and will probably not buy another one.
I don't recommend this game.

It's a pity some of the negative reviewers didn't bother to play more than a few levels before basically trashing this game. It's unfair to give a game 1 or 2 stars based on what in some cases was minimal game play; you need to persist with this game to discover exactly how challenging it is.
Whilst it's true the first 20 or so levels are easy to finish, there are 100 levels (plus bonus levels) and trust me some of them are extremely challenging! Several levels had to re-played after the first couple of moves, as I realised I'd made a mistake! And I had to resort to a well known video site to get help on some of the later levels!! But the help is there if you need it......and you probably will!
The game-play itself is fairly basic, as are the characters and graphics but don't let that put you off. This is a fun game and deserves more credit than it's been given. I did enjoy chasing off the thieves, who chuckle like a pantomime villain when they actually manage to steal something!
This isn't Gnomes Garden all over again; I would say it's more like Kingdom Chronicles. Not a straightforward builder-type TM game, this is a mix of building and strategy. And you actually have to think about what path to take, as not all will lead you where you want to go! You don't need to use all the available resources either, so don't be tricked into collecting what you don't really need!
I'm now on the bonus levels and it's taken me days to get here! Don't be put off by the negative reviewers who didn't give this little gem a fair chance; try the SE and remember, it's not as easy as it first seems!
I recommend this game!

I've lost my love of MadHead Games. Once upon a time they were the new kids on the block and their games were innovative and fresh, a beacon of light in a dark world of re-hashed, over-used storylines and game mechanics. Sadly they've now become just another developer whose creativity seems to have dried up.
Yes the story is quite unique, although the main character being written by 'the author' and having her world destroyed by his words has been done elsewhere. Not in a game methinks; perhaps I've seen it in a sci-fi programme. Still, it's a clever plot mechanism nonetheless.
Unfortunately the rest of the game is just standard HOPA, with the addition of having to create spells for various tasks like 'talking to animals'. Just another ploy to make the game seem longer, although I did love the dog and his voice was perfect!
I deleted it after about 30 minutes. Tired of yet another hidden object search and running about finding things to open other things, I just found the game a chore to play. There was no enjoyment in it, no magic ingredient that makes you want to play on to find out what happens. I didn't care about the characters or their world, so why continue playing?
MadHead have disappointed me; they've gone from gold medalists to just another one of the pack.
I don't recommend this game.

After reading the glowing review I couldn't wait to try this game but I was very disappointed with it. No challenge at all, awful colour palette of purple and green, nothing new with the puzzles and the HOS were varied but very easy.
The worst aspects of the game, for me anyway, were the voices. This game is set in Paris, yet every single person has an American accent. If you're going to set a game in France, with characters borrowed from a novel by a famous French author, at the very least try and make the accents authentic to the place and time. I doubt there were many Americans in Paris when Victor Hugo wrote the book.
Poor effort from a usually much better developer. Even the switching from one character to another got old pretty quickly. And just when you thought devs had got rid of them, there's a helper of sorts. Naturally he's exactly what you might expect to find in Medieval Paris; a talking ferret.
Sorry but I found this game average at best and won't be buying it.

I bought the first Kingdom Chronicles game in May 2012, which makes it one of the longest waits for a follow-up I've seen! However it was worth waiting for; the original was one of my most-played games and I can see this being another one.
All the sounds and voices are exactly the same; from the soldiers and invaders to the market traders, it will all be very familiar to those who enjoyed the original. If it's the same developer then perhaps that might be expected, albeit surprising that after 7 years they retained the template from the first game in the hopes of creating a 2nd one some time!
However this is definitely not a 'copycat' of the original. Whilst graphics are as clear and colourful as before, new layouts, new challenges and new characters have been introduced so it doesn't feel exactly like the last one. The tasks are familiar; build sawmills, farms, quarries etc. whilst sending the soldiers to fight off the 'Orcs'. The story this time is completely different but I won't spoil it for others by revealing it. Play the game and you'll found out! There are extra levels as well as a built in SG.
I played until the demo ran out and wanted to carry on, so this will be a definite buy for me! Far too few of these games to let this little gem go :-)
I recommend this game!

What might have been a decent 'builder' type game has been ruined by far too much hand-holding. Whilst the graphics are pretty and very clear, the tasks are too repetitive even for this type of game. On every level I played (which was about 7) the goal was to collect the papyrus. Nothing different, just clear the roads to reach it.
The deal-breaker for me was the insistent 'do this' or 'pick up that' orders you get throughout the game. And yes, I do mean orders. The run faster icon flashed continuously until I was forced to use it just to stop it jumping about. The rocks or bridges to clear or build flash in a more subtle manner but are still noticeable. You cannot turn off the tutorial, so for the first few levels you are forced to do whatever the developer thinks you should, presumably because you're too dim to work it out for yourself.
As for challenge, it's non-existent in the non-timed mode. I didn't try any of the others; there are no bonus levels, no SG or anything else to warrant the price of a CE, so I wouldn't have bought it even if the other levels were more challenging.
I may consider the SE if other reviews get a more positive response for the timed modes. Otherwise this isn't a patch on some of the better quality TM games. Disappointing.
I don't recommend this game.

I have all the RT games and love them, so I bought this straight away without trying the demo. That was a mistake; I wouldn't have bought the CE had I seen the changes. I'd have waited for the SE.
It seems as though a different developer has made this latest episode. Carrie and Ron are now 'Cary' and 'Ronn'. The black guy is now called Pete, whereas in RT7 his name was Pit.
The graphics are not as crisp and colourful. The money/food/wood boosters seem to be on steroids, as they now quiver like frantic jellies. 'Cary' and 'Ronn' have had makeovers and now look totally different in the game than they do in the static graphics.
The usual power-ups are available to buy with the stars you earn, as well as upgrades to the base. Bizarrely, in the relaxed mode you lose stars for no apparent reason; the game gives you 2 stars, yet on the map you get 3. I can't work out what causes the loss of a star and it shouldn't happen on a mode with no timer.
It's all just a bit 'off'. Nowhere near the fun of the previous episodes and I, for one, am disappointed with this 8th offering. Hopefully if there's another RT, they revert back to the style and fun of the previous episodes, because this one just falls flat.
I don't recommend this game.

What's happened to this series?? The lovely graphics have been replaced by cartoon style drawings which are just plain awful. I have at least 2 of this series and both of them are lovely but this one is such a disappointment. I gave up after 29 minutes and deleted it.
