I discovered yesterday that the bonus game I'd just won (always shown with igloo icons) did not register that I'd won any of the levels and the one level I tried to use a bonus joker to skip would not register that either. Today checking back to earlier bonus games, I realized that none of the bonus games showed I'd won them - the individual games should be shown on a turquoise background after you've played and won, and all them appear as if I never played any of them. The bonus games are a reason I get this series, and despite deleting the game and re-downloading, this function still doesn't work. This has never happened before, and I'm pretty disappointed.
I don't recommend this game.

My issue with this game when I betaed it was the extreme number of anachronisms. A game which appears to be set in the late 19th c. sort of, with a car which looks like the 1930's, clothing from late 19th c., a plastic toy car in a puddle, and on it goes. The story is rather interesting, the mini-games fine, and the HOPs also fine. It's a nice game, if you can ignore the things that don't belong and some pretty terrible accents, and some weird errors: in the scene at the detective agency (which looks like a kind of police station) Jessie Creig is referred to as Jessie Baker (her fiance's last name). Anyway, it does hold your interest. I will probably buy it - I hope I don't regret it in the end.
I recommend this game!

This is a glitchy game as was the prior one in this series, which I ended up having to abandon because not only could I not collect a visible collectible, but late in the game, an inventory item was accepted several actions before it should have been, so I could not proceed with the game. I did notify BF and they very nicely gave me a credit, but I'd like to have seen how the story turned out. Playing the demo for this current game, several inventory items disappeared after I exited the demo and returned to it today, so that I had to exit, set up a new profile and start over. Luckily this was early in the game, but having two games in the same series have inventory, etc. issues doesn't inspire confidence. I'm not in love with the wooden figures and the mashing together of the characters from different series, and with the glitchiness, I'm not sure I'll continue with the demo. I don't have the patience to replay a game I've gotten deep into, which then behaves badly.
I don't recommend this game.

I've been buying these games for years, and the way I've made peace with the nearly identical game play is by constantly clicking on Levels to see how many gold cards I need to get out of that location and go to the next. The strategy can be interesting, collecting enough gold cards to move forward, but for people who love all the bells and whistles of solitaire where you have a lot of assists to help you along, this is not that game. You get a replay, jokers, and mix up the deck, that's it, and they cost a lot: 2500 points to replay a move, 8000 to mix up the deck, and 5000 for one joker. You can collect jokers and mix up the deck from playing, and you also collect extra point cards, which, as everyone says, brings the game to a crashing halt, before you can continue moves. The plots are described but absolutely impossible to find during actual play, the scenes are extraordinarily repetitive, so that if there is an interesting palette and location painting, be sure you will see it again soon. The last one of these I played, I gave up near the end (I play only the Newbie version, I have no patience for anything beyond that), but players were given so few cards to finish a level, it was almost impossible to accumulate enough points to get out of the location. Enough was enough. This one returns to the exact theme music that so many of them have, the same as in the first one I played years ago. The developers of this game basically ignore all the criticisms, and merrily continue to produce the same game time after time, with a different look to them and an imaginary, but non-existent plot. I play these solely for strategy. If you've never played them before, check out the demo. I recommend the game with a ton of reservations.
I recommend this game!

Ok. If you like strategy and trying to figure out how many of those gold cards you need to finish a scene, this is not a bad game. The music is very lively (I think it's been used at least once before a while back and is not the eerie music from the other ones like this), the backgrounds are back to being much more colorful, with an actual scene. I like these for mindless, keep track of the gold card games. This has very expensive frills - 5000 pts. for a joker, 2000 for a replay, which is ridiculous, the game comes to a crashing halt when you collect extra points, a joker or a chance to mix the cards up, and the so-called story is not there except in the minds of the creators of the game, However, I still like the liveliness of the sort of modernized madrigal-like music and collecting those gold cards. Yes, you often leave regular cards behind each time you collect all the gold cards, but you're not forced to finish the scene, and you can easily finish a level without having collected all the gold cards, only a number to match or exceed the minimum shown, so I'm fine with that, because my patience runs out when I'm forced to replay over and over again. This is not a bells and whistle solitaire, where you can endlessly purchase different kinds of assists, but it's really not as bad as some people make it/them out to be. The one negative is that you're supposed to be playing along to a plot line and there is no evident one. Ever. Otherwise, a pleasant way to pass time.
I recommend this game!

I did the beta of this and played the original years ago. I remember that my comments on the beta included glitchy (it's impossible at times to place anything to do any action, taking numerous tries before the object/tool is accepted to complete the task), the hint is almost useless (most of the time the fairy flies into the scene with text basically saying it can't help you), forcing constant trips to the SG, map, etc. This is a game requiring an incredible amount of back and forthing for it to work, it's always been that way, but without a useful hint mechanism, figuring out among the plethora of scenes what's next is almost impossible at times, particularly when you're looking for the exact spot to place something, and even then sometimes it takes several tries for it to be accepted. The artwork is beautiful, the story is interesting, the music is fine. There is far less voiceover work than we're used to today, but that's not so awful, and I'm happy to find collectibles - if only everything would work well. I can't see buying this game - my sanity won't take it. I should add the glitchiness did not extend to my losing anything from the inventory, but that's a scary thought.
I don't recommend this game.

I admit, I have liked some of these games in the past, despite the (often well-earned) terrible reviews. I've made peace with it as a game of strategy - how many gold cards do I need to get out of the level and how crazy do I need to make myself to accumulate enough to do so. There is no real story, the music is identical to the first one I played years ago, and the card back choices are identical game to game, but in the past, the locations were colorful and interesting, even if they repeated. That's changed radically. I played two levels I think, and gave up after that because of the drab, uninteresting locations. I didn't mind playing this game as long as there were nice locations to look at, but with that gone, what's left is the repetitive nature of these games, the same somewhat spooky music, and the sometimes impossible task of making enough money to buy the over-priced jokers, etc. This certainly won't be a buy for me.
I don't recommend this game.

I have a barely six month old HP Pavillion, with everything updated as of a last week. This game opened fine, I made the mistake of agreeing to a tutorial, which I then couldn't find a way out of, and when I tried to exit, the exit button did not work. I had to use cntl, alt, delete and stop the game running. What the.... Based on other people having the same issue, I'm just going to delete the game, which is too bad because it looked interesting, but the "tutorial" which is some kind of annoying pointer, and no access to the Hint icon (doesn't work with the tutorial), was also not a draw.
I don't recommend this game.

I did the beta of this, what seems a long time ago, and it doesn't look like anything I brought up was fixed between then and now - as a result I have no real incentive to buy this game. My first comment when I started the demo was, "Boy, this is a sloppy one." The old woman's voice is not only barely audible (same issue with the beta), but her spoken dialogue is often not the same as the written text. I found I too was using the hint button a lot, and interestingly when it is supposed to point to go back a scene, it often looks like it's pointing at something in the scene we're meant to leave - which is sloppy, but luckily I remembered that problem from the beta. The story is alright (why should Guinevere become immortal though) is okay, but the artwork seem slightly out of focus, there is actually a freeze function on HOP's (haven't seen that in years), and I felt like I was looking at an old game, where no one bothered to finish editing. Just - sloppy. I guess my own review has convinced me not to go with a buy, but some will enjoy the story - just be aware, this is a slightly glitchy and sloppy game. I gave it three stars for effort, but I can understand giving it fewer stars. I recommend it, but barely.
I recommend this game!

I betaed this game a while back, and some of the issues I had with content seem better, although in the section in front of the greenhouse, I could not find the same morphing object I couldn't find when I played the beta. I haven't played far enough to see if what happens with Victor is the same, but I remember I wasn't that happy about what happened with him. I got a new computer a few weeks ago and lost all my downloaded games, so am slowly catching up, but decided to buy this one (well, get it for free). Purchasing it with credits, however, meant going back to the website, and then, as other people had complained, not being able to download until after I'd scurried around trying to find the one place that would download properly, which I did. Downloading shouldn't be so complicated. I did notice the download was one of those which didn't say the name of the game, but Big Fish, so maybe there were some changes to the GM, I have no idea, but this really needs to be a clean and simple process. The game is a nice story so far, pretty, nice fox friend, and despite my reservations about the story, I'm interested to see how it all plays out, but I also miss the old website.
