The video preview of this game didn't wow me. I expected a typical gather the resources with match 3 play and then spend those resources building your town to no real purpose. Was I wrong! You do spend resources building, but the buildings actually help you along and are needed to continue playing. And there are levels to gathering resources. The match 3 games gather basic resources and the buildings convert those into better items. For example, match 3 gets you logs and when you build a sawmill, you can turn them into planks.
There is a nice variety to the difficulty level. Different towns have different difficulty levels to the match 3 games. You gather more resources on the harder games, but you can always go back to an easier game and just play more times to get the same amount of resources. And there's no timer (yay!# so you can enjoy the game play at your own pace. There are also plenty of hints if you need a little help. The hints help you find objects in the HO scenes and find matches in the match 3 games if you're stuck.
The best thing about this game is the variety! I've played for an hour and have found 2 types of match 3 #swap and chain#, hidden object scenes #which are nice and bright and easy to see#, a put the pieces together puzzle, and a word puzzle. There's obviously resource gathering, converting resources to better resources, and town building. There's a storyline and different objectives as the story progresses. You can also choose to put off progressing the story and gather extra resources to upgrade your town buildings.
There's even variety in the games. During the match 3 games, you are trying to match over the resource tiles to gather them, but you are also gathering hints and specials #the ones that help you clear the board) by dropping them to the bottom when they appear. You are also gathering coins that can be matched with any tile and can be spent when you build a shop. The HO scenes include finding hints as well and so far there isn't a limit as to the number of hints you can accumulate. I'm sure I will find even more variety now that I've bought the game!

This game is incredible! There's so much to do that it's a little overwhelming at first, but once you play a few levels you will understand what you are supposed to do. The graphics are great and there are plenty of power-ups if you get stuck. You can swap tiles while others are cascading and the swapping is smooth. If you love Match 3 games, you need to try this one because you certainly won't be bored!
What makes this game so different is that there are many things to do on each board. You swap tiles for the basic game play and make matches to change the background color to complete the board. Once completed, a final item appears and you have to make matches to drop it to the bottom. During the boards, you also match 4 or 5 pieces to get helpful power-ups, make matches to fill up the static power-ups on the left of the screen, make matches with tiles that have resources shown on them to collect the resources, make matches of specific colors over blueprint tiles to collect them, and make specific tile matches to gain extra time on the clock when the time bonus appears. (You can also play an untimed mode.)
On top of all this, you use your resources to build the Wonders, use your blueprints to get new buildings, use coins to decorate your village, and use buildings in your village to play mini-games to earn more things. You can see how this is not your typical Match 3 and I highly recommend giving it a try!

This game is just like My Kingdom for the Princess except it gets harder a lot faster. Keep in mind that the beginning levels in Northern Tale are super easy. I was disappointed at first because there didn't seem to be much challenge, but somewhere around level 6 or 8, the difficulty jumped up. I don't often have to replay My Kingdom boards to get the expert time, but I've had to replay some of the Northern Tale levels 3 or 4 times to get all 3 gold stars! In many cases it isn't just a matter of clicking faster- you truly have to rethink your strategy and try something different. Love the challenge!
Thank you to the developers and Big Fish for a great new time management and strategy game!

If you like Virtual Villagers, Farm Tribe, or Artist Colony, you will want to try this one. It starts out slow and seems too simple at first, but gets a lot better. I almost uninstalled it before the hour trial was up, but I'm so glad I didn't. I'm addicted to it now and love it! It's more complex than it seems with many different menus and screens to keep track of all that it going on.
It's a task based game with resource gathering. Unlike Virtual Villagers, it does not run while the game is off, but it doesn't need to since the tasks don't take nearly as long. I find that the game play is much faster than the other games I mentioned. Building doesn't take forever and I'm constantly switching my workers around based on what resources I need most and which ones are selling for the highest prices.
The characters are cute and each has their own likes and dislikes, so you have to pay attention to that when you assign them jobs. Characters gain experience in their profession which speeds up their work and their walking. There are nice little mini games such as a game similar to Angry Birds with pirates and a cannon and a puzzle type of game to gain more room in your houses for more settlers.
The more I play this game, the more I discover. The menus are simple in the beginning, but once you have built up some manufacturing buildings, you can go to one screen to see all of your industries, how many people are assigned to each, and what products they are producing. The workers menu is nice too because you can scroll through the people to see which profession they are and what task they are currently doing. While playing the game, there is a nice mini map with colored dots so you can see at a glance what people's professions are and where they are working.
If you like this type of game (also similar to Buried in Time, Escape from Paradise, Gemini Lost, Little Folk of Faery, and Many Years Ago), definitely give this one a try for the full hour of the demo.
The Hods, magical beings and pure of heart, once lived in harmony with the holy Tree of Life. But the endless greed of a dark demon forced the Hods into hiding. Now, new hope springs eternal. Rebuild the world of the Hods in this Match 3 Adventure Game and restore the Tree of Life to its old strength!

If you love the relaxation of just swapping tiles, give this game a try. It is a classic Match 3 without much of a storyline and not highly challenging, but sometimes that's exactly the type of game you want to play.
The best thing about this game is the graphics. The tiles are beautiful and change frequently. You can choose timed or untimed play. I enjoy that there are two goals on every level. You not only need to match over certain background tiles, you also need to match certain types of tiles to fill up meters.
This game is just a nice, basic Match 3 and I recommend trying it.

After only 15 minutes of playing, I knew this game was a keeper. I don't normally like the chain style of match 3 games (I usually prefer the swap style), but this game was so much fun that the style didn't matter. There are tons of ways to keep you from getting stuck with a board that has few moves. There are special pieces on the board, tesla coils that can be charged up to zap pieces, and every time you make a chain that is at least 6 pieces long, you get extra zaps. The zapping seems to target the areas you need rather than being random.
The story line is interesting and the art is beautiful. The music and sound effects are great too. Even if you don't like chain style matching, I highly recommend giving this game a try. It's one of the best games to be released lately!

I saw there were a lot of negative reviews for this game, but there were a few positive and the graphics looked cute so I decided to try it anyway. It's true that the tutorial isn't good- it shows you where to click for a sequence of events and you are supposed to figure out that those are the basic moves. It's also true that the plot isn't great and it's a slow game.
Despite all this, I found it strangely addictive. I had to buy it after the trial was up because I wanted to keep playing. It is satisfying to see the bad plants shrink and turn black as you grow flowers. I liked creating little money farms of white flowers so I could get a lot of money when I visited. The beehives are wonderful! You could never get through the game without their ability to keep your plants watered.
The game is flawed. I got stuck several times when the plot wouldn't advance and you couldn't figure out why. Usually the map shows shadowed areas when you have bad areas that need cleansing. When there are no shadows and you can't advance, you have to search each area yourself to find something wrong- usually a bad animal that needs chasing. I also had animals get stuck and sometimes you have to grow a lot of good animals before one of them will finally chase a bad animal. Despite the flaws, I still enjoyed the game enough to play through again on the hardest level. Growing the flowers and managing your money is fun. And the game is completely different from anything else I've played on Big Fish. It's worth a trial to see if you enjoy it too.
The only bad thing about this game is that hours go by without your realizing it! (It's bad if you are supposed to be getting to bed that is...) The game play is fun and the story is well written. You are building a city and gathering resources, so if you enjoy those two types of game play, you will love this one!
You play as a young god who has to prove himself by managing his city and people. You directly influence your city by placing buildings, using your godly powers, and you can pick your people up to speed them to their tasks. Unlike many of the building games, you can place your buildings wherever you want to. If you need to move them later, you can spend some of your mana and use your powers, so it's easy to restructure your city when you need to open up a path or you've removed some obstacles and can now organize your buildings better. You are given tasks to complete by other gods and your people, so there is always something to do and a goal to work towards.
There are a lot of elements typical to this type of game such as: researching, upgrading buildings, expanding your population, making decisions on how best to spend your resources, and building industries that are dependent on other buildings. (Such as building a cheese factory after you've built a dairy.) It doesn't get highly complicated the way some city building games are, so you can enjoy the fun of managing things without the frustration and headaches.
If you enjoy the uncover the tiles using the numbers kind of games, then you may like this one. Just don't expect much of it to be about animals. I've seen these types of puzzle games with much better story lines and themes. I completed North America and Australia with maybe 2 animal trivia facts each and only 2 or 3 animal-themed puzzles in between the uncover puzzles. None of the shapes you uncover are animal-themed either- just random shapes. I also found the puzzles to be extremely easy. I finished both of the above continents in half an hour so there wasn't much of a challenge.
After 5 minutes, I quit and uninstalled this game. I love Match 3 games, but this one is not good. You cannot drag the tiles to make matches. You have to click on one and then click on the second. This was hard to get used to since most Match 3 games that I've played allow you to slide your matches. Also, if you try to keep making matches while tiles are cascading, your first tile keeps de-selecting which effectively makes you have to wait for the tiles to finish falling. The worst thing about this game is the sound it makes every time your cursor rolls over a tile. You don't even have to click on it- just moving your cursor over the tile causes a high-pitched squealing screech sound. This was the main reason why I lasted only 5 minutes. The noise was so high-pitched that it was painful and annoying.
