I ended up getting a refund for this game since there is no trial version. BUYER BEWARE! You have to move through this game manually. It is confusing. It has the kind of layout like the old game "Myst" if anyone ever played that. I hate when you have to click-and-point to navigate your location.
I love adventure games, and I am always looking for something "different"- Many of these games have similar themes: Fantasy, princesses, witches, magic, etc.
While this story does have a yet another evil witch, I found the storyline to be a bit more interesting than the typical "bad witch is jealous of beautiful maiden who needs to be rescued" theme.
The artwork and graphical detail is extrodinary and unique. It has a darker edge. No rainbows and unicorns here! Instead meet a drunken teddy bear monster, a little girl who gets turned into a reptile, and it gets even better with the bonus level!
This game also had the perfect level of challenge for me, not too hard and not too easy. There are lots of mini-games, some simple and others that can take some time. One of the really great things about this game is that hidden-objects only accounts for many 25% of the mini-games. There is a diverse amount of puzzles. That for me was a plus as well.
It's the holiday season and I wanted something to play that went along with it. So I chose the Nutcracker Collectors Edition. I have been playing these games enough to know that I usually get 8-12 hours of game play per game.
I am not sure why, but this game does not have as long of a story line. I had it done in about 5 hours. And this is including the Bonus game! Which for me, paying 14.00 is simply not enough. Stick with House of Doors or Nevertales. Which are the games that brought me to Big Fish. However it never hurts to experiment with the game available here.
I also wish game makers could give the "saving the princess" theme a rest, lord knows there is nothing new there.
I love playing adventure games and many of them are filled with fluffy themes of roses, castles, decorated mansions, exotic creatures and otherworldly beauty. But this game, appeals to another asthetic, something a little darker and I loved it.
One thing I will mention is that you will have to do a lot of running around and backtracking. No magic portals here! But as an intermediate player, it's time to awaken my memory a bit.
I won't tell you how it ends, but I will say that I am a bit disappointed I didn't get the Collectors edition!
I have been fascinated with and playing hidden object/adventure games for a few years now. I have played many. But this game exceeded all of my expectations! From the movie-like story line, to the beautiful graphics- it is amazing. There is so much to do, you may want to play it more than once! I cannot recommend this game enough for Adventure seekers. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
