I was thrilled to see a new World Mosaics game for download, and having played for some time I am not disappointed! So far I've been playing the story mode, which takes you through some well known tales from around the world. The mosaics are as challenging and enjoyable as ever, the sound good and the music catchy. I've also enjoyed reading the story in between the levels. World Mosaics has always been a much better series than the Griddler (or whatever they're called!) games. They just work better and are more entertaining. Whether you've played previous World Mosaics games or not, this is a title for you.
I like this little game. It's fun to make something and find out how they work. I may buy it, but I'd want to try other games in this genre first. The learning curve is steep, and the tutorial isn't particularly helpful. More information on the qualities of the different building materials would be helpful, and some explanation of what you have to do to get the different badges would be good. They could be made more achievable too. For example, the badge you get if you make a functional bridge for a certain cost, say $4000. In one of the tutorial levels, even if you make the bridge exactly to the tutorial's specifications, you can't meet that cost. I also spent about 50 minutes of the demo on the tutorial trying to work out what I had to do to get the necessary badges to advance to the next levels. This was irritating. All in all this is a fun little game, but there are some issues that the developer needs to address. I would recommend that you try this game, but I'd wait to see if its problems get fixed before buying it.
I've played similar games by the same publisher before and this one is another good instalment with attractive graphics and fun music. The gameplay is simple - eat things smaller than you and avoid things bigger than you. Like the earlier games that feature a grey blob, the story (such as it is) is silly but fun. When I saw this game I downloaded it immediately, anticipating an hour of fun and a possible purchase. However, precisely 18 minutes and a few levels in, I got to a level where you have to swim through tunnels and eat crabs, and in less than a minute started to get terrible motion sickness. I normally only get this when playing first-person games and it doesn't appear so quickly, so this was a shock. This is the only reason for not giving the game 5 stars and rating the visual/sound quality relatively low. If you don't suffer from motion sickness, I would definitely recommend this game! I, however, doubt that I'll be playing this game again. 10 minutes later and I still feel ill!
I have played this game for nearly the full demo hour, and I'm enjoying it. I haven't seen any dinosaurs except those in the title screen, but the shapes made by the tiles are generic prehistoric themed shapes like a caveman or a big cat. Perhaps 'Prehistoric Mahjong' would have been a better title? The boards aren't hard to solve, but getting all three stars for each achievement is surprisingly tricky. I keep missing the target for the number of moves by a couple! The graphics are good and the music is nice (even reminiscent of the Jurassic Park theme in places) but there are only a few tracks which is a shame. As I said the boards aren't very hard but it seems that the aim of this game is more to take your time and consider each move more carefully than with other mahjong titles where speed is more important. This game is perhaps not for a hard-core mahjong player, but for someone who wants a more relaxed and slow paced game it would be great. I haven't decided if I'll buy it yet, but it's a definite possibility.
I really enjoyed playing this game. It was challenging but not frustratingly so, though some of the hints weren't as helpful as they could have been. The environment was immersive and utterly believable. It really felt like a world that had been created with care by both the game designers and the character of Cogglethorpe. His character developed throughout the game, and his twist at the end (though not altogether unexpected) was really well done. The ending was quite unusual for a game like this. Without giving anything away, you achieve resolution but not without regrets and sadness. It treats the gamer as an adult rather than a child. The graphics were attractive, the music and sound effects good and the voice acting was excellent. I look forward to seeing what the designers come up with next, and thoroughly recommend this game to anyone who has a few hours to kill!
I downloaded this and played for about 40 minutes, and I was disappointed. The music was good, but the voice acting was terrible. The voices were wooden and reminded me of Microsoft Sam. There were also some syntax errors that gave the impression that the dialogue had been badly translated from another language. The story didn't grip me at all, and I found the introduction video frankly confusing. I'll be uninstalling this game and won't be buying it. If you want a good murder mystery game, play any of the James Patterson Women's Murder Club games instead.
