Thought it would be fun at first, but ... the instructions are not clear, there is too much dialogue, too much bouncing between scenes, little eplaination of what is expected on each screen, cursor is awkward, artwork very cartoonish, objects difficult to see, descriptions of HO poor (for instance "roll" turned out to be a scroll or "roll" of paper ~ lame).
I don't recommend this game.

Jane Austin fans might concievably like this game, if they didn't have a book or dvd handy. There's way too much dialogue, no voice overs, little direction as to how gameplay should progress, poor graphics, and maddeningly repetative music. The gameplay is extremely slow, confusing and counter-intuitive.
I don't recommend this game.

Just because it is the Diamond Jubilee of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II there is no reason to foist off outmoded treacle on us.
The game is completely text based and uses photographs (bad ones at that) of charactors and sets from the long-running British soap opera Corronation Street as a backdrop for a generic hidden object game.
The pace is grindingly slow, the premise dull, and the static scenes boring.
Even fans of the show will be disappointed in this game
I don't recommend this game.

In Amerzone Part 1 the journalist/player arrives at a distant lighthouse to interview a discredited explorer, who hand the player a quest before dying. Explore the lighthouse, learn about Amerzone, and repair a decrepit airplane with surprising abilities. If you like "Myst" style games, you'll probably enjoy this one.
Benoît Sokal's 1999 first-person adventure game Amerzone is presented by BFG in 3 separately downloadable parts. This was a precursor to the "Syberia" series. As expected from a graphic artist, the artwork is breathtaking and a stand-alone reason for experiencing the game, although the graphics are blocky and dark in some scenes.
Modern players may not be familiar or comfortable with this type of story-driven immersive interactive novel or movie. It is not a HOG nor does it contain challenging puzzles. It tells a story which the player helps to advance in 3 to 4 hours of gameplay.
There is no user manual, no hint system, and no written dialogue. Internal game instructions appear once at appropriate times as hand-drawn information boxes. Documents the user collects during gameplay provide background information, more lovely artwork, and hints to puzzle completion.
This is an early point-and-click style of interaction requiring the player to click on a symbol near an interactive object in a static scene.
I recommend this game!

In Amerzone Part 3, travel to the source of the Amerzone, see the amazing drawings from the explorer's journal come to life, navigate the swamp and discover the native village. Reach the mountain tops and absolve the dictator while completing an act that may ultimately free a country. This is the more challenging of the 3-part series.
Benoît Sokal's 1999 first-person adventure game is presented by BFG in 3 separately downloadable parts. BFG doesn't provide a walk-through but there are several excellent walk-throughs of the original game available archived on the internet.
A good example of an early quest style mystery game, the artwork is breathtaking and is a stand-alone reason for experiencing the game. The graphics are somewhat blocky and dark, making it difficult to see some scenes.
Amerzone is not the type of game with which modern players are familiar. It is a story-driven immersive interactive novel or movie rather than a typical HOG. The puzzles are not overly challenging. It is not a long game, easily completed in 3 to 4 hours.
One of the criticisms when the game was originally released is the user interface, which presents a few issues. There is no user manual, no hint system, and no written dialogue. Internal game instructions appear once at appropriate times as hand-drawn information boxes. Documents the user collects during gameplay provide background information, more lovely artwork, and hints to puzzle completion.
The early point-and-click style of interaction where the player clicks on a symbol near an interactive object in a static scene may be initially confusing If you wish to use something from inventory, you activate it and it stays active until you deactivate it.
I recommend this game!

Benoît Sokal's 1999 first-person adventure game Amerzone is presented by BFG in 3 separately downloadable parts. Each part is playable by the experienced player in a hour. Although BFG doesn't provide a walk-through there are several excellent walk-throughs of the original game available archived on the internet.
Amerzone is a good example of an early quest style mystery game. The artwork is breathtaking and is a stand-alone reason for experiencing the game.
Amerzone is not the type of game with which modern players are familiar. It could be considered an immersive interactive novel or movie. It is not a HOG nor does it contain challenging puzzles. It tells a story which the player helps to advance. It is not a long game, easily completed in 3 to 4 hours. One wonders if this game might not have been a demo, a "pitch", for a more complex game.
The user interface presents a few issues, and this was one of the criticisms when the game was originally released. There is no user manual, no hint system, and no written dialogue. Internal game instructions appear once at appropriate times as hand-drawn information boxes. Documents the user collects during gameplay provide background information, more lovely artwork, and hints to puzzle completion.
Although scenes are static, the player has 360 vision in most scenes, by dragging the mouse. This is an early point-and-click style of interaction where the player clicks on a symbol near an interactive object in a static scene. If you wish to use something from inventory, you activate it and it stays active until you deactivate it. It either works on an object or it doesn't.
As stated before the artwork is beautiful but the graphics are somewhat blocky and dark, making it difficult to see some scenes.
Amerzone Part 2 - Explore a mysterious atoll, find fuel and further clues about your trip, journey up the tropical Amerzone river and meet a priest with a past. Pay attention so you don't get lost in the jungle.
I recommend this game!

Poor artwork with fuzzy graphics (this is not a performance issue). HOS have little or nothing to do with the story line. "Assistant" Character dialogue is unnecessarily drawn out, requiring constant clicking to get through. The storyline, what there is of it, is derivative and uninteresting
I don't recommend this game.

My title says it all for me: Too Creepy, Disturbing Images, Confusing Gameplay
1 - Some of the images of bound and decaying children/child puppets are just too creepy and disturbing.
2 - A tutorial might not be necessary IF the gameplay and storyline lead the player but this game DOES NOT.
3 - The cursor is awkward to use and graphics are choppy.
4 - The grammar and spelling are bad and inexcusable in a era of spell checkers.
5 - The voice overs are just plain bad
I don't recommend this game.

The artwork reminded me of Chinese paintings. The puzzles really didn't have much to do with the storyline but were entertaining to solve.
