What a disappointing game. The hidden object scenes are once again inexplicable piles of garbage, poorly drawn to boot, you just drag yourself around to find all the ridiculous special keys for all the ridiculous special locks, the plot has no logic and just fizzles out at the end (both for the main game and the bonus chapter). And who goes exploring mysterious houses in a cocktail dress anyway? Some of the puzzles are poorly designed to say the least (I'm looking at you, train tracks), many of the hidden objects look like they were cut and pasted from somewhere else, with items not to scale, many are way too dark to see, the story is boring as can be, what a terrible game. I am really tired of casual game designers just throwing this kind of crap together and calling it a game, This had zero entertainment value. The designers threw in some "beyond objects" (morphing objects) to find, but at the end, you can't even see your achievement or go back to get the ones you missed. There are no fun "ah-ha!" moments, nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing even remotely original, this so-called game is just an incredibly tedious series of clichés that just drags on and on. Don't waste your money!
I don't recommend this game.

This is a lovely game, full of humor, and a great introduction to the dungeon crawler style. I had never played this type of game before, was a bit worried I would find it too complicated with the cards and all, but this is perfect. Beautiful artwork, plenty of achievements to get, lots of boss battles, and it's a lot of fun to destroy all the monsters. Great game. I'm hooked!
I recommend this game!

Really, do games have to be this completely incoherent? Is it really that hard to come up with a story that follows some kind of logic? I don't mind the supernatural at all, but in the story, you have to provide some kind of explanation for it, otherwise, it's really no fun. Other negatives: the music is annoyingly repetitive, to the point I had to turn it off, put on some creepy music on YouTube, and play with that as background music instead. The objects in the hidden objects scenes are often poorly drawn and way too dark to see.The hint system works fine in the hidden object scenes, but otherwise it's completely useless, as it does not guide you to where you need to go (and since there is no way to rely on any kind of logic to figure it out, that really sucks). On top of that, there is no map, so that means a lot of wandering around trying to figure out what to do. Both the main story and the bonus chapter (which is really short) just come to an abrupt (and very unsatisfying) end. In each case, the ending makes no sense and just leaves us hanging, with no explanation for anything, it's just awful. What a terrible game.
I don't recommend this game.

This game is one of the most poorly put-together games I have ever encountered. The music is insanely repetitive and uninteresting. The story line, if you want to call it that, makes no sense whatsoever and is completely disjointed. The puzzles and HOS are poorly drawn in a lot of cases, making it difficult to match things that are supposed to match. As a player, you are hired to find a murderer and solve a mystery, but you end up prepping bodies for burial, baking pies (what baker in her righrt mind would ask some stranger to bake her pies for her?) and whatnot. Hidden object scenes are varied, but not well done. In one of the "spot the differences" mini games, there were differences that were not accounted for! Oh, and don't try to use a lit candle to light a torch that's soaked in oil. Nope. You need a different kind of fire for that. It's great also when a character tells you they have to rush to the other side of town and then just stay there. As for the adventure, most of the time, you end up doing things without even knowing why. You see that something can be picked up (little grabby hand), you pick it up, but you have no idea why. The game says you need a ladder to go up on the roof, but you have no idea why you would want to go on the roof in the first place. Oh well. There's a ladder, so let's just go on the roof! This game is just... awful. Seriously, I don't even understand how this was released in the first place. I'm staying away from ERS games for good from now on. Ugh.
I don't recommend this game.

It is very exciting to see this evolution of casual gaming. This game is excellent and has a lot of original aspects incorporated in the gameplay -- and yet I think we are just beginning to tap into these new possibilities; I really look forward to what the future will bring from developpers such as Mad Head and Goblinz. Guys, you're on the right track, keep it up! The story is interesting, well told and well tied together. Loved how the bonus chapter tied into the main game. This type of game is the answer to a longtime wish of mine, a casual game (ie a game that does not require a controller to be played, as I find myself unable to manage that unfortunately) that actually has some intensity to it and does not feel like a game for little kids. I am so fed up with fairy tales, princesses, cute fuzzy friends and pretty flowers and gems... Enough! Anyway, back to this game: Different styles of HOG scenes, collectibles to find, morphing items = all good things. Offering the player a choice as to what action to take next when faced with a specific situation is an fun idea --- maybe something to develop further. Fighting off evil beings (as in hitting them to make them let go of you) is also a fun twist, something unusual in casual games. The puzzles are good, a little bit on the easy side sometimes --- I would like to see integrated in this type of game puzzles that are more like the "door puzzles" of the Mystery Case Files series. And then there is the sense of adventure-survival-horror: YEAH! Finally! Really liked this game, as well as Maze: The Broken Tower (Mad Head also) and True Fear: Forsaken Souls (Goblinz). More of these please, and keep developping in that direction, this is great!
I recommend this game!

Very nice game, fun to play, great story, great graphics, great audio with cool sound effects. Assembling the ingredients for the spells is a fun idea. But what I really liked most of all is that the hidden object scenes make sense --- the objects are correct for the period and it makes sense that they be where they are. I am sooooo fed up with piles of garbage randomly left all over the place in other games, with things that make no sense whatsoever like finding owls in the pantry, synthetic sponges in an ancient house, kittens or masks or whatever hidden in the middle of a flower, floating oars on the side of windows, objects that are not to scale, anachronistic objects, mandolins up in trees with lizards and parakeets, etc. The HOS in this game were a real delight. I wish it was like this more often. I would reeeaally like to see the sequel and get the rest of the story!
I recommend this game!

This game does not recognize my pen tablet, which I use to play all my games. Very disappointing.
Also, come on, when I play a game, I want to feel like a kid. A hero. Not a mom looking for her helpless daughter, for Pete's sake! Stop it with this type of scenario already! I want to be slaying monsters and zombies --- why isn't that possible in casual gaming? At the very least, if I can be something like the hot shot detective that's been called in to investigate and solve a cool mystery, that's something. But having me looking for my kids --- ah, no.
I don't recommend this game.

Shiver: The Vanishing Hitchhiker was a pretty good game. This one, not so much. The soundtrack gets very repetitive and boring rather quickly, the tasks don't follow in any kind of logical manner (I was combining objects with no idea as to their purpose), the puzzles are too few and way too easy, the game in general is not very challenging at all and the story is not exactly gripping, at least not the way it's told. Very disappointing.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm a big fan of Mystery Case Files games, and in many ways, this game is really great. I played in Expert Mode, and I found that the puzzles are challenging (which is wonderful and refreshing --- more like this please!), the morphing objects scenes are a nice change of pace, the visuals are excellent, the live action videos are well integrated in the game, the voicing and the acting is quite decent (in fact, I thought Kleinsmith as Charles Dalimar was really good!), the sounds and the music are excellent, there is a lot of exploring to do, in short, the game has a lot going for it and is incredibly polished, which makes it very surprising that it should have such a huge flaw as this one: the clues, once found, are not saved in the journal (or case report)! Now that's just plain ridiculous. The whole point of having a journal is to assemble clues! What kind of detective doesn't make notes? That's a rather strange and very annoying oversight on the part of the game designers. I couldn't believe I actually had to jot down clues on a piece of paper, with a pen, next to the computer! Not good. In addition, it turns out that the collectors' edition is bugged. Page 39 of the journal is missing, which means it is impossible to finish the bonus quest and get to Secret 2. That is not cool. However, in itself, this little problem would not have been enough to deter me from giving this game a rave review; it's the problem of the journal that does not hold the clues that's the real killer. I still recommend this game, because it's so polished in so many ways and so very creepy (which I like); however, because of this flaw in the use of the case report, I cannot give it the five stars it would otherwise deserve in my view.
I recommend this game!
