I've played the demo, I didn't read the reviews previously but I'm glad I didn't because then I wouldn't have had the 'What the heck' moment about ten mins in.
Originally (previous to those aforementioned 10 mins) I thought this would not be my cup of tea, aliens are not something I want in my RPG's. But yes, you have to give it a shot.
I haven't bought it yet, but I will.
So far, I love the storyline (the naming the characters in particular!), the maps are wonderful! Instead of only being able to go to one of two places at the beginning you have this vast space (some areas are blocked off of course) which you just wander! And an actual map!! So you have a rough idea where you're going! Not very useful for me on the demo, but I presume would be great in the full version. The enemies are visble and also sometimes avoidable so no nasty shocks when you LP is low! You level up quite nicely with the game and so far so good.
What my one negative is (to bring it to 4 stars) is the areas (towns & mazes). It is quite easy to go the wrong way, get to a dead end, have to go all the way back again or find your self exactly where you started! When the demo ended I was in the middle of a maze trying to figure out how to get to the other side (if you read that as a chicken joke it might just be funny...) but I was a bit stumped. Due to this, I'll put of spending this months credit on the game and get it next month, when I can't remember where I have and haven't been, so to start it afresh.
I recommend this game!

As the title suggests, I love RPG games. This one for me however wasn't that memorable. I played the demo (only the demo) about three hours ago and to be honest, I can already remember very little of the storyline. For those who have played even five mins of the game will undertsand why I think it is strange. Without giving any spoilers away, it does seem like a bazaar storyline. However, it may unfold and become a beautiful tale like many other RPG's did. I'm not particularly fond of any of the characters so far. Leah to me, seems to have no depth and as for some of the other characters you encounter early on, if they were real I would possibly think of giving them a slap round the chops!
The gameplay itself is very typical of its kind. Graphics & music are what you would expect, so really, rather average.
I played it on story mode (not a great lover of loads of fighting in RPG's, they tend to bore me) and have yet to encounter a villain! For an hours worth of story playing and even on story mode, I find this rather strange. Also considering right at the beginning a guard at a gate states you need a weapon... Little touches like this can annoy me slightly, but that is only a personal opinion.
As regular RPG players will know, getting lost often can be a bit of a deal breaker! Unfortunately, that was my deal breaker. I spent a good ten mins trying to find people and then another 10 mins trying to figure out where I was supposed to go! Normally, you have little hints to work out, maybe I missed them, but the demo ended whilst I was lost and due to this I had no interest in continuing.
If you are new to RPG's I would not suggest this to start with if you are a regular player, give it a go, but I wouldn't suggest it on story mode.

Like most reviews you see on BFG about RPGs I am constantly looking for the next Aveyond! This is not it. I took one look at this and thought, 'nahh, not for me'. However a spell of boredom prompted me to give it a go. I have only played the demo and if I wasn't studying (I'm a very bad procrastinator) then I would buy this to see it though.
The game to me, is rather refreshing! It isn't futuristic like some RPG's have become and it also is't quite as old styled as others tend to be. So far, there are no vampires, ghosts or werewolves (this may change, only played the demo remember). There is a lot of ninjas of course, being that you are playing as a rather 'proper' samurai. For me the culture change was wonderful and some of the knowledge that has gone into this is rather lovely to see. So far, I have not encountered any 'monster' that I could not defeat. This obviously could irritate the lover of a challenge but it suited me well. I also haven't got hopelessly lost and resorted to a walkthrough! If you play RPG's then you know there is a fine line between a challenge of finding something and being stuck endlessly wandering with no clue where you are, what you're supposed to be doing which ends in complete frustration!
To me, there isn't much of a storyline to keep you enthralled, but I do rather like the characters. You can see the makers have put in little hints of a past for you to want to know about, however that alone isn't enough for you to keep playing and I could take a guess at what their pasts are already.
Main pros:
Fast paced
Correct levelling for the 'monsters' you face.
No wandering and getting lost.
Main Cons:
Storyline is not quite enthralling enough to be a 'must buy NOW!'
Side quests so far have been quite scarce (three I think given and I haven't completed any)
If you're a beginner to RPG's or if you like to play at a 'normal/easy' level and follow the story, you would probably like this. If you love a fight, challenge and captivating storyline, maybe not.
I recommend this game!
