First few puzzles help you learn strategies, and difficulty increases with each new puzzle. Each kind of character you recruit has a different effect on resource growth, which helps you achieve the goals. Each different building type lets you acquire different resources, or enhances growth. Watch out for secondary goals that aren't discovered until you finish the main one...these can be unwelcome surprises on a first time play, because you must already have the strategy reasoned out and the resources acquired by the time you get there or you'll run out of time. It's quite a balance to decide what characters to recruit and what structures to build at what time during the game. Correct sequencing can be really important. I enjoyed all the levels of play. I like the look of the game, character and structure designs and color palette; sounds and music were fine, not at all distracting. This has a static background and minimal animation, so you can really focus on problem-solving.
I recommend this game!

As with the latest Hasbro Monopoly game, this is a classic well-loved board game that has been ruined by poor development. The programmers obviously went for flashy, trashy, garbage graphics and animations, and if they gave any thought at all to the game player it doesn't show in the end result. The 3-D bodycam representation of game pieces and movement will make you ill if you have any vision or motion sickness issues. You're not in control, and the swooping movements and jumping screens will drive you to distraction. This is not a fun game, and I'm sorry I didn't demo it first...thought I knew what I was buying because of the original board game, but Hasbro is no Milton Bradley.
I don't recommend this game.

I was pleased to see the classic Monopoly game, as I had owned a computer version years ago when it was produced under Milton Bradley. That version was fun to play; this one is not. The graphics and animations constantly junk up the screen, making it impossible to determine where the players are or what moves are being made. Even the dice roll animations aren't realistic...they look like bouncy balls. And for anyone with vision issues the constant shift in and out of the background and board movement will drive you nuts. I know the game well, but I'm sorry I bought this without looking at the demo first.
I don't recommend this game.

Just discovered this 2012 game, and I'm loving it! The only one of its kind I've seen on BFG - a rummy style card game but each level becomes more complex, with both bonus and penalty cards in the upper levels. Games vary from a first-to-the-finish paint job to a cooperative HOA block party, with lots of rooms to furnish (high- or low-end) in between. Several types of awards to collect for each game - win 3-in-a-row on the same level, win a level with all gold upgrades, win big by meeting the points goal for each level. I liked all of it except the background music, and that can be turned down or off. Gameplay can also be sped up or slowed down to suit any player's needs. I would really enjoy more levels - maybe add a Garage, Recreation Room (pool table, ping pong, card table, etc), Nursery, Library, Man Cave, Workout/Exercise Room, Pool Deck, Music Room, Wine Cellar, Conservatory/Garden Room, Home Theater, Dressing Room/Walk In Closet...if there's a next-generation of this game, I'm all for it!
I recommend this game!

I like time management, strategy, and puzzles. Loved The Promised Land & Little Folk of Faery; characters were larger and more fun to watch, artwork was much better, music had more variety, progress was slow but made sense; cause-and-effect worked. I've re-played those a lot, and also enjoyed Hero of the Kingdom and the Adelantado Trilogy very much. VV just doesn't play well; without the BFG Forum it is purely guesswork, and it takes much too long for characters to move, to collect needed points, and to accomplish anything. Objects appear at random; after you collect one it re-appears later but gives you no more points, while you still wait for new objects to show up, if they ever do. There is really very little for the villagers to do; some actions need several repeats to work, but you don't know how many. It's fun watching tribe members grow up, and I liked that you could visit the "mausoleum" and visit/remember the dead tribespeople; but you can waste a lot of time playing this, and I did - 3 days worth. Logic and reasoning and gaming skills won't help you here; if it hadn't been for the BFG blog walkthru I'd have given up. I won't play again, and am not interested in others in the series. Not recommended.
I don't recommend this game.

Very different from all the other BF games I've played - almost hypnotic in its fascination. There are many threads of storyline, each determined by the choices you make. Lots of strategy required to acquire tokens and complete goals - which either reward you with tokens or raise your skill level or social status. To succeed you must marry early, have children, and educate them using the tokens you earn. But leave plenty of tokens at the end of your time for their dowry in the next generation. Thought-provoking, puzzle-solving game; and though it is essentially the same play throughout, there is great variety in the direction of the story as new challenges come up, and new twists to the story occur. Once you reach ruling status, you have to vote in the Senate, making decisions that affect the worker class, the elite, and the military. I find this fascinating and a real departure from the usual PC games. Highly recommended!

Continuing with a good storyline, graphics and sound are excellent, HOG and puzzles are moderately challenging, with plenty of variety. I missed the "achievements" that were in the Ship of Spirits game...I like to check on progress but couldn't because this was not included in Cursed Island. The videos are still impressive, and help carry the story along; I liked the CE bonus chapter as well. Recommended, together with the Ship of Spirits - I bought both and played all the way through.
I recommend this game!

Graphics are beautiful, even the video tie-ins for the story line are so good I didn't use "skip", but watched them all. Puzzles are moderately challenging, extra effort required to locate "beyond" objects and hummingbirds throughout. A bit more back-and-forth than I would have liked. A map would be useful, but I have no idea how they could show the various vertical level changes. Very glad I had the CE version with the Guide. I bought this and its "Cursed Island" sequel together on a BF bonus deal, so played the story all the way through. Great fun, and will play it again...recommended!
I recommend this game!

...and I've bought a LOT of PC games. This is one I can pick up and play over and over again. Even though I already know the story line well, I like the character graphics very much, and enjoy the challenge of building up the colony bit by bit. I try doing things a little differently each time. Because the colonists have different preferred tasks, it can be quite a challenge to get everyone assigned to something. If most of the colonists want to mine gold, someone still has to grow food and someone still has to make tools. If assigned to a task that isn't their favorite, they'll tire more quickly and have to stop and eat. If you're not careful, you can run out of food. And a colonist can't work if they don't have a room in one of the houses, so you need to make sure and add rooms before you bring more colonists in. As a colonist's skill level (experience) increases, they work faster and more efficiently. Lots of variety in the tasks, goals to reach, bonus points to get, awards to achieve. I've played it many times, and never get tired of it.
I'd sure like to see Promised Land 2.
Highly Recommended.
I recommend this game!

The storyline is good, the graphics are good, and there is a lot of variety. BUT the game play is very slow, and at times it is difficult to see any connection between the activities you can complete and your ultimate goal. You gather stuff, and cook stuff, and make stuff, and sell stuff...and every once in a while you do something about your quest, which seems to be to rescue someone. If you have enough resources you can go in the mine and play marble popper. You have to constantly replenish your resources because you won't know how much you need of them until you reach certain points in the game, and then you spend all your time catching up to food points or $. Unlike Promised Land or Little Folk of Faery, where the inhabitants continue performing tasks on their own, this game does nothing unless you click. I'm really tired of fishing. I'm really bored waiting for the $ to catch up so I can buy the next big thing. I don't see any point in building anything more until I know why I'm building it. Every time you go to a new place, you only get two tents and two players, and you're starting all over again building up your team. You can go back to previous locations, but you have to pay to transport goods from there to your new one. I'd like to complete the game, but keep shutting it off after only a few minutes now as I'm already bored. Sorry, BigFish; this one is not a winner for me.
I don't recommend this game.
