I actually started with Avernum 6 years ago, and this one did not disappoint either. It was nice to finally be able to play the backstory, as it were. I really liked that there was a keyboard interface as well (though not as developed as in 6). I freely admit I only made it as far as I did with the help of cheat codes and walkthroughs, because there is such a level of detail in terms of story and small side characters to interact with that it got confusing at times. I really enjoy that the decisions you make in the game affect the global outcome of things, making this game infinitely playable. Hours and hours and hours of gameplay!

The game play is easy to learn, though you really must have a keen eye to get all the hidden things in the background! It would have been helpful to have a magnifying option. A journal to help you keep track of what you need to progress would be nice if they ever make a sequel. I'm a stickler for spelling mistakes, though, and as the game progresses the quality of the English begins to dip. But overall a fun game!
