So, Katy and Bob are back. And - surprise! - Katy is getting married. I am SO fed up with all the characters in the games ending up in front of the altar! They could've just started baking cakes for a friend, but no - Katy needs a cake for herself. Can somebody PLEASE come up with a new storyline?!
So, they start baking cakes because they need one themselves (because that is logical, after all). No wedding cakes, mind you! Just "ordinary" pink and blue cakes.
The rest is the same old, same old - Bob (or is it John?) bakes the cakes, John (or is it Bob) puts the icing on and Katy delivers to the customers.
For me, there is no challenge - I got expert on every level on the first try. Basically, this is a click-fest - you're supposed to hand out five menus in a row, deliver five orders in a row, or pick up the payment five times in a row. Very easy. The most difficult thing is to tell the colors apart on the strawberry and the chocolate sauce for the icecream.
The "achievements" are repetitive, and there doesn't seem to be much point to them. Other than speeding up Katy, they don't seem to do anything for you.
I was very disappointed, especially as this is a CE. No extra levels, and no extras other than the eternal wallpapers and storyboard. Yawn!
Really, if I'm supposed to fork over my hard-earned cash for CEs, I expect a little more. At least throw in a few extra levels!
If you love Katy and Bob (like I used to) - by all means, buy the game. It is okay. But no more than that and certainly not worth the money for the CE version. Wait for the standard edition, is my advice.
I don't recommend this game.

I don't recommend this game.

The storyline is poor - fathers against mothers, really? That's just no fun, part of the charm of the series was that Patrick and Emily were normally on the same page. Now, Patrick is an idiot who can't even handle a washing machine! And all of a sudden, he'd rather hang out with the guys, or use the gym while Emily has to look after the kids, the back-garden (really?!) and get dinner on the table. Poor Patrick, there's nothing left of the goofy but capable guy he used to be... The addition of another two babies doesn't add to the storyline, the crying brats are just plain annoying.
What's with the stupid "in-game games", why can't we get rid of those? Rub, click, hold - all that while you're trying to serve customers and clean tables. Emily used to be about restaurants, but the silly spa is back... I'm on level 15, and have to say - the storyline is annoying, the dialogue has me rolling my eyes all the time, and on top of that, the game keeps crashing. I bought it already, unfortunately - I really regret spending the money!
I was already frustrated with the last game, and this is the last straw - won't be buying another game in this series unless they improve on characterisation and story!
I don't recommend this game.

The game itself is entertaining enough, but the dialogue is utterly boring and pseudo-funny. Also, it takes forever to load the next level which I find very annoying. I tried the game on three different computers, but it's the same on all of them - a long wait while the next level comes up. Nothing new from the previous two games - the brothers have to help their Viking gods get items back which Loki has stolen. You collect the usual gold, food, ore, etc. until you have enough to beat the bad guy of any particular level and move on. We've seen it all before!
All in all, an okay game for a rainy Sunday, but nothing to write home about. Definitely wouldn't get the CE, the standard edition is plenty good enough.
Hey, BF - still waiting for a NEW kind of TM game... but I guess we're stuck with the Vikings and the equally annoying Emily franchise?
Recommend this game for all those who are - like me - desperate for a TM game, even a fairly weak one.
I recommend this game!

Bought it without reading the reviews or looking at the demo, played all the levels... and am severely disappointed. There's nothing in there to warrant a CE - 60 Levels plus the bonus levels normal for this series. You can now send "postcards" to people. Yeah, right. Because I need people to know which games I play? It's just a clever way to advertise the game, which I find annoying.
The game itself plays badly, mouse clicks often don't register and the game takes ages to go from one screen (shop) to the next (level). You can't change the difficulty, which can be annoying especially for people new to TM games. Customers don't slip into a free slot at the cash desk, they stand behind other customers - and Emily only takes cash from the first people, you have to click the register again for the second lot. They had fixed this issue in previous games, and now it's back! Why???
Each level has a "mini game" which crops up several times during a level - you have to "rub", "drag" and "hold" or "click". Now, I found that annoying in the Allison games, and now I have to put up with it here? Also, I don't want to change nappies... I want to serve food! Seriously, this stops you from dealing with customers, so you have to be very careful about your timing. Superfluous addition, in my opinion.
They changed the characters, most noticeably, Carl the mouse! Why would they do that?
Paige is annoying, Emily is whiny and don't get me started on stupid Francois and the family! They are pushy, they are inconsiderate and intrusive. Now, they've always been like that in all the other games - but it's getting worse! Ugh!
As for the storyline... they went for "realism". Fine. So I have to be with Emily every step of the way, from finding out she's pregnant to giving birth on the kitchen floor. Not what I'd call cute - it's not even interesting. But then you get a robin hatching (from an old and cold egg, no less!), and the bird immediately takes off for a little flight around the yard. There goes realism...
Also, do we really need to see dead people in this type of game? Grandfather sitting dead in the garden was a bit too realistic for me, thank you. I just wanted to play a fun restaurant game... which this isn't, anymore. I don't really know what to call it, but you end up helping out in a day-care centre and a spa...
All in all, this game was not what I expected - the Emily games were always high quality where the game was concerned, and fun as regards the storyline. Now? Gameplay down the hill and the storyline slow and very boring. I don't recommend this game, and certainly not the CE version! Really not worth the money, I'm sorry to say. I hope they change the format again, and soon! I'd like a story about Emily (and not her offspring and friends!), and I'd like the game to flow smoothly again. Then, and only then! will I buy another game in this series.
Play the demo before buying!!!
I don't recommend this game.

I love TM games, I love the Vikings... so I had rather hoped I'd enjoy this game. I'm sorry to say that I did not.
For one thing, you cannot queue the tasks, you have to wait for the character to finish the first task, then assign the next. The game just doesn't flow. For another, it takes a while to figure out what you're supposed to do in certain levels, so I ended up restarting levels all the time. In most of the levels, you simply have to wait until you have produced enough items to buy off some troll blocking your way.
Some reviewers said they like that you have to collect two or three items to make a doll or ice-creams or whatever. Yes... but you still end up just collecting stuff! And it's boring! Once you build up the "village", you just wait and wait to collect your resources. Also, in some levels you get some dragon coming by and destroying your buildings. You can build "dragon towers" to protect the village, but they don't work - the dragon still gets through often enough, and then you can't make three stars. If it's not the dragon, it's earthquakes. In Norway???
The storyline is a bit silly - and it doesn't enhance the game at all. Overall, the game was hard on the eyes (especially the "underground" levels), involved a lot of click-click-clicking and endless waiting for resources to be collected. For me, this was not a fun game, it was more like "I will get through this!" :-(
I don't recommend this game.

I bought the Collector's Edition because after playing Viking Brothers 2, I was desperate for another TM game. Well. I don't exactly regret buying it, but the game has a few flaws. First, there's the bad English, which I really detest. Then, there are the graphics... a little attention to detail would've been nice! Also, if I'm supposed to supply actors with props, why do they need multiple watches or walking sticks (which have nothing to do with the scene)? If you invent a game like this, why not spend a day and come up with some props that actually make sense?
The storyline is boring and there's way too much dialogue. The characters are cardboard, and Maggie is too stupid to make it in Hollywood ;-) Actually, she's so goody-two-shoes that I find her a bit annoying. The game also sports the typical "good friend but too fat to be a love-interest" character. Poor Diego! Just as an aside: I feel that a game shouldn't kill off a character. I'm playing a game here, I can do without that sort of thing.
Nobody else has mentioned this, so it might just be me - but starting with the second chapter, I have problems clicking on certain items (such as the drinks and the sausages). I end up NOT getting the item I clicked on, and consequently don't finish the level with three stars. Very annoying!
All in all, the game feels somewhat rushed to me. I wonder whether they were in a hurry to get it out? I think the game needs another once-over.
So - hesitantly, I recommend the game. If you like TM games, you will probably end up getting it... and like me, you might end up ignoring the story and the characters and just get on with playing.
I recommend this game!

The characters are well known - Emily, Patrick, little Paige and their extended family. They all wear winter-clothes, even Carl the mouse! The colors are bright and beautiful, the storyline is sufficiently "Christmassy" and the game is easy to play. Instead of upgrading various items around the restaurant, we get to visit a shop where we can purchase winter-based items to help us achieve the goals. Cute idea!
A delight for the holidays, and at 90+ levels definitely worthy of the "collector's edition" title. I wish Big Fish would consider bringing us the early Emily games, I'd love to have them in my collection! Anyway - this here game is well worth buying if you like TM games that are relaxing and fun. Something for the whole family (even though I personally find Patrick's remark about his MIL's "hot flashes" inappropriate).
I recommend this game!

I love the Emily games, I thought Angela was okay... but Cathy?! The character is really annoying. She isn't just naïve, she's downright stupid. One of her boyfriends is an idiot, the other one a self-pitying nuisance. The best character is the cat! I guess it's lucky I like cats... Fortunately, you can skip the dialogue!
Other than the silly storyline (which I could forgive, after all, one doesn't play a TM game for the storyline, right?), it's frustrating that the cursor often doesn't work the way it should - sometimes, clicking on an item will give you two of them, or none at all. If Cathy is wanted at a table, I often had to click the table two or three times to get her to go there. Cathy is annoyingly slow until you can buy the upgrade. You can't make enough money to buy the upgrades quickly, so that's another frustration. In some levels, the mouse is almost see-through, so not easy to find. (Having said that - it can be done, with a bit of patience!) Also, the game crashed on me several times, without any reason at all.
I played the game at expert level, and it wasn't really that hard to get three stars.
All in all, I wonder what makes this a collector's edition? I bought it two days ago and have finished it already. It wasn't really worth the money, and unless I'm desperate for a TM game, I won't be buying any sequels, CE or otherwise. Cathy has utterly failed to endear herself to me.
I don't recommend this game.
