I played partway through level 6 before my demo time ended and my review is based on the demo as I haven’t purchased the game yet.
I never do hints or guesses. If I had to, then it’s a no buy. I also like a really challenging picross/nonogram game.
On the first level, I too was caught out by the NEW FEATURE of fills and crosses being non-permanent.
Once I knew this, I didn’t see it as a problem.
If the level is long and you like to get a perfect score with no mistakes, this feature is FANTASTIC because YOU DON’T HAVE TO REPEAT THE ENTIRE LEVEL AGAIN!!
I also liked the OTHER NEW FEATURE of dots that show you have completed a row or column.
I don’t mind that it is a one-colour game while you are solving it as they can be more challenging. (Although it wouldn't hurt to show different colours as you fill in the squares.)
THE FINAL PICTURE IS MULTI-COLOURED thankfully, (and I think is necessary because nonograms made by their competitors have multi-colours).
I HOPE THOUGH THAT THEY LABEL THE NONOGRAM PICTURES IN FUTURE as some were hard to distinguish what the picture actually was.
The backgrounds are visually appealing.
The style of music so far is not my favourite but I usually like the volume down low anyway.
I have seen better nonogram tutorials, there was one in particular but I can't remember which game it was in.
THIS DEV HAS REALLY UPPED THEIR GAME. It’s goodbye to their boring mono-coloured backgrounds and pictures of the past as in previous nonogram offerings.
I have played their game Santa’s Toy Factory: Nonograms (2016) and demoed a couple of their other nonogram games.
Unlike Santa’s Toy Factory; this game has a storyline, it is colourful and is up-to-date showing a map of levels.
I HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR PICROSS FAIRYTALE: LEGEND OF THE MERMAID because there were TWO things that Santa’s Toy Factory had going for it.
They were the HIGH LEVEL OF CHALLENGE in some levels. I really had to work hard to find that one square that I could fill or cross in order to progress through the level.
The 2nd good thing about Santa’s Toy Factory was that I NEVER HAD TO GUESS OR USE A HINT.
This is true for the first 60 levels of the game and for a while was one of my go-to games. I can’t comment on the remaining levels as I had a few crashing issues with it and so I decided to delete the game.
But back to PICROSS FAIRYTALE: LEGEND OF THE MERMAID.
The game description on the website sounds exciting and I am going to buy it.
I am hoping for some really challenging levels, with absolutely NO guessing required like in Santa's Toy Factory.

Happy puzzling!
I recommend this game!

Review based on a 1 hour trial and about 5 hours after purchase.
I have found this type of puzzle quite tricky, but managed to work out how to solve a 3x3 grid of this type in another game a couple of years ago. Once I had worked out a method to do it, I had a great feeling of accomplishment. That particular game had very basic options.
So when I saw this one with many clear photos of beautiful, stunning scenery, wildlife and other topics, and grids going from 3x3 up to 6x6 I thought it was worth trying out.
When I trialled it, I was able to do the first 3x3 puzzle in about 15 minutes. A couple of days later I purchased it and do you think I could remember how to do it? NO. It took me ages to complete a 3x3 puzzle again. How does THAT happen?!! Anyway, once I worked out the method again (and wrote it down this time), I tried it out on the larger puzzles with success.
To summarise what I liked:
1. The beautiful photos
2. The variety of puzzle sizes (3x3, 4x4, 5x5, & 6x6)
3. The feeling of accomplishment when solved
4. The challenge (but this could also go in what I don't like about this game!). However there are probably players out there who would be naturally good at this sort of puzzle.
5. Being able to number each square
What I think could be improved please developers, if you make another one or fix this one.
1. Have an option for other players. I don't really want someone else messing up my progress.
2. I only noticed 1 tune. If trying to solve 1 puzzle for several hours doesn't drive you up the wall, then listening to only 1 tune will! (OK I realise I could turn it down to almost nothing, or have my own music but I would rather have more variety in the game itself).

3. Polishing the game for example some achievements for the achievement lovers.
Conclusion:
I'm enjoying this game now I know how to solve the puzzles but I found it frustrating when it was taking so long to figure out.
This is a game that I would enjoy playing a couple of puzzles at a time then moving onto another game.
I recommend this game but if you are like me, be warned that your other jobs will not get done until you have it solved!
I recommend this game!
