Someone obviously read "Memoirs of a Geisha", and thought "that would be a really good idea for a game".
Some drawbacks: the map and journal are not interactive and the characters are not "alive" when they speak; no facial movements etc. If you're used to more of a 3D environment in your games, then you may find this one a bit of a disappointment.
Some pluses: The artwork and soundtrack are amazing and really make you feel like you are inside the Kyoto geisha quarter. The puzzles are challenging and the bonus objects are easy to find.
If there ever is a collector's edition I would hope that they add extra material about the role of the geisha and their place in Japanese society. Otherwise, this is a thoroughly enjoyable game.
