Loved this game at first, reminded me of many older games of this genre. Great simple graphics and cute animations. Then just about the time I was getting comfortable with all the controls/interface it ended! Never even got to use my knights, as they put my army with too many stars.
Had also a couple of issues with clarity of rules/enhancements, one about the "swordsman" that I never was quite sure about. A bit of QC, proofing, and about 3 times more length and it would be worth purchasing. As it is I don't recommend it as it was HIGHLY disappointing in the finish.
I don't recommend this game.

GREAT old style RPG game. Large and well scripted, good challenge and great play. Wish that we'd see more of these kind of games at the BF, as these bring back my early love of computer games. Shades of the old SSI and D&D games of the old DOS computers.
The only thing that could be faulted was abit of too much nostaligia in the sound department, but that faded quickly once one got involved in the game. Love to see a whole series based on this world.
I recommend this game!

Just for starts, I love old style rpg games, and computer games of that genre. This one started fairly well, with decently interesting storyline, and a fair (though typical) cast of characters. I didn't really like the oldish style interface, that didn't even allow any use of the mouse, but figured on getting background in this game and moving on to DS2.
I didn't really care for the hidden nature of the random monsters (and ONLY monsters except for the "Bosses"#, as they could get very boring and repetitious after having to go through an area for the umteenth time, but the crystals did help in that respect, and the special abilities leveling up was interesting; though most seemed less than useful and you wound up sticking to basics most the time.
My biggest complaint, and sticking point was endgame, where the rules seem to change completely and death #and a L-O-N-G D-R-A-W-N O-U-T boring death to be totally candid...# to repeat infinitum until one just finally just closes the game window and quits. It's not even easy to just quit in that fight, except to shut down the game window, and restart it again from a save point.
A few other points of dissatisfaction were many of the spells, auras, and effects give NO clue to if they are working or not, and seem to be totally useless much of the time #ie, only a few show up on the character effects view, and some are listed on the enemies# and a vast majority of the time it's pretty blind as to what works except the basics.
Overall, if endgame wouldn't have sucked so badly and be so frustratingly SLOW to rinse and repeat #spacebaring though many lines of dialog also, EACH and EVERY attempt#, I'd have given the game a 3-4, as overall it was enjoyable, albeit clunky in interface, and cloudy in strategic abilities. But the endgame tossed this one completely out of the enjoyment circle for me, and it rates a solid 2 for that.
