I had saved this game for a rainy day. It's pouring outside and what an unexpected treat this was! The colors were rich and vivid. (I'm tired of all the pastels we've been treated to of late.) If you have seen the movie "The Red Violin", this has a similar theme. The music is based on Camille Saint-Saen's "Danse Macabre" which I dearly love! There were some hidden object scenes that were all morphing objects. I liked the puzzles - just challenging enough, without having to scream or hit the "SKIP" button. Smooth flow to the game using intuitive based movements. The late 1800's feel of the game was magnificent! Wish I could find another hidden gem like this one...
I suppose if I had not played all the other Dark Parable games, I would not be so disappointed with this one. The magic is just NOT there. The game flows differently than in the previous DP's. I learned to be a fan of FROG's playing Blue Tea Games.
This game gave me the feeling that I had gone to my favorite restaurant for my favorite meal cooked by a great chef. Then I was served a meal prepared by the cook at the diner down the street.
The end credits said it all. There were only EIPIX folks and their goofy comments listed...Steven Zhao of Blue Tea wasn't even mentioned.
My first review...typically a "lurker" of reviews! This game is soooo different. If you want to put your thinking cap on, this is the game for you. Fair warning: it's long, too. The opening scenes take some figuring out, but once you get the hang of the game play - a wild & wacky world opens up. The storyline is fantastic! There are all sorts of puns and goofy references to odd subjects. Even some of the less than perfect translations to English resulted in me guffawing at them. Options for play are casual and adventure mode. You get hidden objects in casual, classic point and click in adventure. Huge variety of puzzles, some of which made me want to chew all my fingernails off. (I'm no "expert"...so if I can solve them, you can too.) Unlike games with the persistent and cloying "cute animal" assistant, various characters (and animals) do pop up to help out. A cat with a deep and debonaire voice was my favorite. There are achievements plus candy pieces all throughout the game that can be used as payment for cool stuff to decorate a Halloween yard. Perfect game for this time of year!
