This game is very frightful. Usually, developers promise scary, but seldom deliver. This game does - at least for the characters in it. Awful things keep happening. Everything seems to have stopped in purgatory for 10 years and looks like it. (Takes place in the 60s, and graphics depict the era and the neglect of the locations.) Very interactive HOS and puzzles are engaging and fun. Lots of things happen in this adventure. More interesting puzzles and mini-games than HOS, but the ratio is correct. Hint system is very helpful, though you can figure out the navigation pretty good without it. Let the fun begin at the unwelcome hotel.
SUMMARY: Fresh and unique HOS and mini-games with fantastic color palettes and artistry in the graphics. HOS are done in sections and mini-games have a new approach. Graphics are gorgeous and cutscenes are terrific.
VERY VERY CREATIVE. Takes it to a new level. So wonderful to look at. OUTSTANDING: 1. Very long HOS, with a mini-HOS (silhouette) within a HOS (list-based, interactive) and move over next to the scenes for additional close-ups of HOS. Artistically created HOS so things are easy to see (but not necessarily to find). 2. Grabbing cutscenes, and not just the opening scenes. Much thought went into doing these. 3. Even puzzles have sound effects. 4. Sometimes need to open an inventory item to get new inventory items (such as open a coin purse to get the pipe ends for a mini-games). GOOD: 1. Use of animation and special effects. 2. Music is apropros for the scenes. Very lively. 3. Sound effects. 4. Four difficulties, including custom. 5. Beautiful graphics and use of color palettes. 6. Voice overs (with lip sync for those who insist on it). 7. Good ratio of mini-games and HOS. 8. Play match-3 instead of HOS.
I recommend this game!

Ominous Objects: Family Portrait Collector's Edition
A father returns home to find his children missing - all but one, who refuses to say a word...
This is the best game that I've played in the last couple of months. The storyline is refreshing; graphics and artistry are superb and gameplay is smooth and flowing. It's fun and entertaining too. Definitely a buy!
LENGTH: 5 hours casual. The puzzle difficulty ranged from moderately challenging to very difficult. I had to skip quite a few puzzles (maybe the instructions weren't as clear as I liked); game length would have been another hour or two if I hadn't skipped them.
Characters are played by avatars, which I don't like. Story had a twist as far as the main character's boss (who was quite condescending) was concerned. Hint system was fabulous - one of the best I've ever seen - took you right where you would find the next item or puzzle you needed to move forward, which was helpful in the last chapter.
I recommend this game!

Dreampath: The Two Kingdoms
Your sister, the Queen, has fallen deathly ill. Now you must travel to a faraway kingdom to find the cure.
Princess must find the Dragon who knows about the Elixir of Life so that she may save the Queen, who is currently on her deathbed. Immerse yourself in the story of greed and origin of the dragons. Graphics are lovely; music is easy-listening. Traditional HOS, as well as finding a number of specific objects. Puzzles and mini-games are on the challenging side. Fun to play and plenty to do. Only thing I didn't like was the portrayal of the characters - they seemed stiff - nor did I like the cat's voice.
SUMMARY: Very well written and thought out story with twists and turns. Smooth and creative gameplay. Lots of fun to find out the mysteries of the now and then. Accumulate karma in talking with people, which will determine the outcome of the game. So you can replay the game and have different results. This is one glorious game to play.
IF YOU WANT ADDITIONAL DETAILS: STORY: A mysterious girl asks to play hide 'n seek and asked "it" to recite a chant instead of counting. Everything changed then; only the girl who was "it" left the woods that day. She and her mother move to another town. After the mother dies, the girl finds a postcard from her father and learns that he is still alive. She decides to go to Graystone in search of her dad. Once there, she finds out that people are still going missing whenever the fog appears. She must solve this mystery.
GAMEPLAY: A massive dose of creativity in giving you things to do and discovering current and past mysteries. You learn that the scar you received when playing hide 'n seek (so many years ago) has given you special powers. The first one revealed is the ability to melt ice. There is also a karma meter that changes depending on how you converse with people you meet (you have choices of what is said) and the amount of karma affects the outcome of the game. Several types of HOS; plenty to do and see.
OTHER STUFF: Graphics are beautiful - sometimes hazy and sometimes very clear. Animation is believable - the fog reminds me of a tornado touching ground. Music is so relaxing and wonderful. Voice overs are very good. You can customize your gameplay, including whether to show your objectives and showing active areas on the map
Game length was a little over 4 hours on casual. Game is based on the story of the theatrical musical production of "Sweeney Todd," including the songs from the show. Constant comments from the narrator accompany gameplay, which will put a lot of people off. It kept me from getting bored as I found it a little entertaining.
Graphics a little faded and indistinct. The HOS are list-based and somewhat difficult to find all objects without the hint. Click on an object you can't find and the hint will show you a square within which is the object.
Travel to locations only via the map. Completed locations are checked off. The game is in chapters and just because a location is completed in one chapter does not mean that it won't reappear. Puzzles are challenging, as they have no instructions. Enough thought will bring the solution to you. Skipping puzzles will add 15 minutes of game time to your final total if you are keeping score.
I played casual and sparkles highlighted each area where there was an activity to perform. If playing the harder difficulty, if there are no sparkles, I think it would take you forever to finish the game.
SUMMARY: Game can be frustrating, especially in the beginning, when you encounter non-normal play. If you don't know what to do, just go to the map until all the locations are checked off to find out where you can have actions to perform. Mostly they are HOS. You are looking for evidence against Sweeney Todd, and some of the evidence you collect is given to you after completing a HOS; but what is odd is that the article given to you was not in the HOS. I liked the game, but many people will not, even if muted.
SUMMARY: Another winner that is simply awesome in this continuing saga of Shadow Wolf Mysteries. Graphics and animation are outstanding. Atmosphere is sinister and alarming. Objects to help you in your quest are unique. If you like the other Shadow Wolf Mysteries, this will certainly not disappoint.
IF YOU WANT MORE THAN A SUMMARY, MORE DETAILS ARE BELOW FOR SPECIFIC TOPICS.
STORY: Play as a detective in the 1890s, investigating a town held in peril by ferocious wolves and/or werewolves (you have to decipher which it is). There is a rumor that the next door neighbor is a werewolf herself or is harboring them and releasing them at night. Learn facts about werewolves, including the first one.
GAMEPLAY: Plenty to do; somewhat linear; and lots of places to go, with some back and forth. But you have an interactive map to help you. There are HOS, puzzles and mini-games to help you move forward. Graphics and animation are superb. Wolves are popping out all over.
When you meet someone new, use your "magnifying glass" to find out information about them. If you find an unknown substance, use your analyzer by putting the substance into a box, answer a few questions and get your prize for one of the puzzles.
HOS, PUZZLES AND MINI-GAMES: The HOS are not too crowded and objects are nicely distinct. They are the "find X number of items" that are of a certain type (such as metal or related to werewolves). Good ratio of HOS and mini-games to puzzles. Mini-games are not too difficult, not too unique, and give you a prize. Puzzles are in the form of finding objects needed to complete them and thus move the game forward. Not too difficult, but you if you need 3 objects to complete the puzzle, you must find all of them to use them.
OTHER STUFF: Voice overs for the people are very good; but they could have captured the sounds of real dogs, cats and owls, etc. They sound too mechanical, but still acceptable. You have a moon that illuminates areas where you can interact. You have a diary, but I could not turn the pages back to check something. Don't know if this was a glitch.
Although this is an ERS game, it does not seem to be up to their normal super-great standards. That's not to say the game isn't a good one; it's just not a great one. Starts out a little slow but gets better with play. Graphics are good, just not the usual outstanding artistry. Storyline is a good detective story in the 1800s and graphics seem to depict that period well. Not a lot of HOS - interactive game instead (such as feed the animals in the HOS scene). Puzzles are the usual variety and you can choose hard or casual for each, which is a nice touch. Not sure that this has enough to qualify as a CE for me; I like morphs and more collectibles.
