I love the Grim Tales series. Let me recommend you some of the better ones:
The Bride Bloody Mary Color of Fright The Legacy (!)
I played the demo of this game in hard mode. I'm sorry to say that the story is so disengaging and doesn't make you want to continue to figure the rest out.
I love a good story and a bit of a challenge. This game has neither of them in my opinion.
Elephant games used to have great, lengthy and challenging games in the past. I ask again - Where has all the good developers gone? Have they sold out to in-purchase, mobile games?
I am gonna continue following developers like the ones that made Nightmare Adventures, Secrets of the dark, Parallels Cross etc. This is just crap to earn money.
I had a lot of fun with the first "Rite of Passage" games, back in 2014.
Mad Head games has in my opinion lost all of their good developers and are now linear, always. Either there are new owners or the game developers have lost their passion for making great games.
0 points for puzzles. 0 points for creativity. 0 points for challenge and story line. We all know by know that a certain "Sunnyglow" always give ALL games 5 stars, lists challenge as 5 stars and says in her/his review that the puzzles are ridiculous.
Please try before you buy and since there are so many bad games these days, here is a list of some I highly recommend if you are bored of these under par ones:
- Haunted Hotel Charles Dexter Ward - The Lake House - Children of silence - Nightmare adventures (once you get over the graphics there are amazing story lines and puzzles in both games) - Surface - Mystery of Another World - Echoes from the past - Witch's prison (in fact all the games in this series are great) - Hallowed Legends - Ship of Bones - Enigma Agency - The case of shadows - The Lost Lands series - MCF Fates Carnival - MCF 13th Skull - MCF Dire Grove
The visuals are great. The level of challenge not so much. It seems that Eipix and Elephant has merged. Elephant and Eipix now has the same annoying sound clips where when you do anything, they make the same abhorrent typewriter noises whenever you are doing anything - even on the hardest level.
I wish these developers would make it an option not to make noises and pop-ups when you have achieved a task or an achievement. It ruins the story and the game play. If any devs. are reading this: Give us a challenge!
And at the same time - Where has all the great developers gone?
I slaughtered MCF The Harbinger, because it was the worst attempt at a MCF game.
GrandMA has listened to all the critics and done a 180. This game is night and day from their last attempt, they have really redeemed themselves!
We are going into the past, and in the first chapter we revisit Ravenhearst. Finally there is some challenge to the many puzzles I have encountered in the demo, proper MCF style.
I'll include some of my all time favorites for other players if you haven't discovered them yet:
- Haunted Hotel Charles Dexter Ward - The Lake House - Children of silence - Nightmare adventures (once you get over the graphics there are amazing storylines and puzzles in both games) - Surface - Mystery of Another World - Echoes from the past - Witch's prison (in fact all the games in this series are great) - Hallowed Legends - Ship of Bones - Enigma Agency - The case of shadows - The Lost Lands series - MCF Fates Carnival - MCF 13th Skull - MCF Dire Grove
Thank you GrandMA for this gem. Can't wait til I get home later and can play the whole game.
Maybe fun for beginners. Looks like Grandma are trying to make a new MCF game, but they should stay away from the genre after the massive fail that was The Harbinger. This was just plain boring to me. Zero challenge and for my taste, again, boring.
I just realized that I have forgotten to review this game, checked now after my third play through.
This is an outstanding game made back when Big Fish published their own games, and that means high quality, originality, challenge and oh, so much fun! There is so much to do, and it is a looong game.
For puzzle lovers, this is a must play game! Have fun.
Are they all hired now by firms that offer in-game purchases? It seems that all the original and great developers are gone. This game doesn't deserve the once great title "Mystery Trackers". This is rubbish.
I have been so excited for this game to come out. This was a huge letdown. Poor graphics. The game makes a noise/sound whenever you try to do something, Eipix style, but it's not Eipix, but Grandma? Zero challenge in puzzles. Poor storyline. I was so looking forward to using my credits for this game, but I'd rather replay the old MCF games. When you have played the Ravhehearst, 13th Skull and Dire Grove MCF - that's the level of quality you expect. This is a disgrace. Maybe ok for beginners. PLEASE bring back the old quality of the MCF series - I can help you if you want :)
I stumbled across this game looking for another game and what an incredible find! This is how they used to make great adventure games in the good old days. No HOPs, HURRAY! Who needs to train their eyes anyways?
Beautiful artwork! Amazing attention to detail. There weren't many puzzles, which was a bit disappointing, if there were, this would be up there with my top games.
Morphing objects and at the end of the game it said "Thank you for playing Stormhill Mystery: Family Shadows, we have made an extra chapter for you" :) For free! Super nice treat. I will check out more of these developers work!
Eipix has really ruined this series, as with so many other series they have taken over. Really sad.
In the first 20 minutes there is only one "puzzle", it was insulting, even to children.
A ghost that needs an asthma inhaler? What? He's dead..
As with all of Eipixs fancy games, there are annoying sounds when moving your mouse. Each time you find an object in a boring HOS, there are keyboard writing noises and when you move your cursor to the objects list, another annoying sound. Why?!?
In one scene of bottles it says "My eyesight is not what it used to be", so you can't read the labels of said bottles. They are a large size and your sight didn't bother you previously. Now you need a magnifier - that is dirty (no, you can't clean it up with your shirt, even if it's a crisis.)
You put a LP on a gramophone and the glass panel next to it breaks because of the vibration... Lordy.
That's when I'd had enough. This is the most illogical and stupid game I think I have tried.
Zero challenge, super illogical and seems like the devs just threw this together. If this was made by a 13 year old, I would be impressed, but it would still be unplayable for adults. Please disregard the good reviews.
