I love the original storyline of Sea of Lies: Mutiny of the Heart ... IMO, we don't get enough "Based on a True Story" games, and the same goes for Pirate stories! As far as I know, this IS based on a true story, but only because the Devs say it is... I'm not up on my pirate history. But that's ok, even if the claim isn't true, it makes no difference to me, because it makes for a great storyline!
This review is based on the demo only:
Just a few facts.... the game gives you the choice of 3 modes to play: Regular, Expert, and Insane. The difficulty can be changed mid-game. I always play demos on the easiest setting - so I didn't give a rating for Level of Challenge. I found the difficulty to be fairly easy, as areas of interest all have glints; however, I'm happy to report these aren't so bright as to be intrusive, nor are they given right away. Also, if there's an area for which you need to first go to another screen, find an item, then return to that previous screen to use the item, the 1st screen doesn't have a glint until one has returned to it and can use the item found.
The graphics are clear and well executed;
this game is especially colorful. I found the HOS to be very detailed, but the items aren't so tiny as to be near-impossible to find. There's an area in each HOS that shows as an item that needs further discovery/action before it will be marked as found, that once you find it, another "mini-HOS" blows up to a "normal" size. Then, there are items shown in silhouette, that one needs to locate in that mini-screen, before the item is marked as found, back on that original HOS. Confused? Sorry - but if you play the game, maybe you'll think of a better way to describe- I'm at a loss!
If you like more Adventure and less HOS, you might be a wee bit disappointed, as so far, almost every new scene contains one. On the bright side however, during the Demo, there's been no return to the same HOS - a BIG plus in my book! And, I wouldn't consider these what most refer to as "junk piles." The scenes are a blow-up of what you might find in that particular area of the screen. **SPOILER: [to end of paragraph] For instance, when you meet the Duke in his castle, the area behind him is a curtain that first you must solve how to open; then, upon finding this niche, the items are collectibles of the Duke, including statuettes, vases and the like. These also appear to be items of the same time period as the story. To me, this doesn't constitue a "junk pile."**
The sound/music is nice, not obtrusive, and changes often enough [per area/screen] so it's not too boring. Next time I play though, I'll be doing my usual Mute, and on with my music! [To be fair, I haven't found a game yet, that I listen to its music & sound, over Pandora!]
There appear to be lots of Achievements, but so far, I didn't come across an item as a Collectible. I didn't use the SG, but maybe I would have if I played on the Expert or Insane level of difficulty. There's a teleporting Map, which is helpful since it shows Objectives and areas where you need to do or find something. There is the strong possibility of yet another map, as during the first scenes, you're collecting pieces of a- map? Don't know yet what's up with that.
This game is extremely fun, and I can't wait to play the entire thing. It's definitely one I'll be buying --- just not sure yet whether or not I'll wait for the SE rather than the CE version!
I recommend this game!

I'm not going to give one of my usual, extremely detailed, reviews, for a couple of reasons: 1. They get kinda boring to do, so I'm sure, even MORE boring to read, and 2. I just want to let YOU know quickly, how much I enjoyed the free demo, so that you will at least TRY this game, if you have EVER even thought that a Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game was fun!
All of the above, in order to say: At least TRY the free demo, because it will get you hooked! This game is a totally immersive experience - listen to the music, the voiceovers, etc. and take in the beautifully detailed scenes full of color, and life - and just let yourself get swept up into the story ... I can guarantee that 95% of you reading this review, will come away after the free demo, wanting to purchase the game -- and what a great time to do so, with the sale going on right now!!
I recommend this game!

This game is a lot of fun! Storyline is nothing new, with the "rescue" theme, but still quite enjoyable.
There's a type of diary, with notes on clues, characters met so far, objectives, and a map, which is interactive - just mouse over to get names of locations, and click to transport to that location.
I enjoyed the storyline so far, completing the demo in under an hour - but I used the "Casual" setting which made things quite easy. I was tempted to change the difficulty level, but didn't because I wanted to see if there was a limit to the demo [besides the time-limit]. Well, now I know! The game would be great for beginners to the HOPA genre, since the Casual setting spells things out readily; the Hint feature works outside of the Hiddent Object scenes also.
I found the graphics to be a bit simplistic - I like more detail - but they were ok. The HO scenes had easy-to-find items [list type], with a couple interactive items thrown in. These were easy also. I doubt these scenes would be made any more difficult in the other two difficulty levels - just misclick penalties, longer time for Hint to re-charge, etc.
Overall, seems like it will be a fun game to complete! The other games by this same developer can be looked up thru this game - I was surprised how many of the others I had played and greatly enjoyed; I just didn't realize they were from the same developer. Since I have most of those games, and have really had fun with them, looks like this one will be a great addition to the family!
Speaking of family: there are snakes to eliminate, but so far nothing any more "scary" than that, if you don't care for snakes! No black magic, etc., and the snakes are easily sidetracked. Spoiler: one is chased away by a mechanical mouse you need to assemble, which was a different puzzle than I had ever completed before - quite creative!
Thanks to the developer, and BFG, for bringing another great HOPA game to us....
I recommend this game!

This review is of just the hour-long demo; also, no spoiler alerts needed, this is just an overview of features..
If you've played Mystery Trackers: Four Aces, this game is just as great, but more so... [if you haven't played Mystery Trackers: Four Aces, what's wrong with you? haha... but seriously, download THAT demo too!]
I can say with complete confidence, this game has it ALL, and then some!
The game setup has four settings, from Casual to Detective; the latter being a new, harder setting than in the previous MT games [in my memory] ... just another feature to make this game "more" than the previous MT games which are pretty awesome!
This game is heavier on the adventure/puzzle side, than HO side - even tho' I love a good HO scene #& this game doesn't disappoint with those#, the adventure and puzzles are even better! I didn't need to skip any puzzles, so they're not too difficult# I also never needed to use the Strategy Guide#
I'm not giving away the storyline, however-
Your adventure includes a great sidekick: a little dachsund#?#that helps you- from getting items you can't reach, to sniffing out items you need! Also like Four Aces, there are abundant animals to find = extra fun!
And for yet another great feature, you have special abilities that are discovered along the way. The first to be uncovered is pyrokinesis, which naturally helps you to light things, such as ... oops, you need to play to find out yourself! Not going to spoil it for you! It also seems that some of the other characters are going to have their own "powers" to unlock - I just didn't get to find out for sure, as I didn't get far enough in the hour.
At least download the demo and discover what a great developer Elephant Games is, and get lost in this wonderful game! If you are a HOPA fan, you won't be disappointed!!
I recommend this game!

I'll not be doing my usual, word-y, review of this game, since the whole game is downloading, and will be ready to play before I get done! Cannot wait to get back to it!
First of all, the GRAPHICS are something to be seen to be believed! Perfectly clear [I used the aspect ratio adjustment for mine, but I think they'd be just fine if this isn't adjusted for, too], crisp and clean, and beautiful colors!! Thank you thank you thank you, Developers and Big Fish! Really, even if HOPA games aren't your "thing," I'd still suggest downloading the trial just to see these graphics!
The storyline is significantly different than the usual, too, and very engaging. [I won't go into detail, because if you're reading this, you probably read the info from Big Fish that describes it!] I became completely engrossed while playing the game, and although I knew just a few minutes into it that I'd be buying it, instead of stopping the trial like I'd normally do, to go ahead, buy it & download it - the hour flew by before I knew it!!
Just a couple technical things: I LOVE the fact that even tho' I chose the "casual" mode to play the trial [something I always do for the 1st hour] - it was SO great that even though there were glints where there was a HOS that showed as soon as you got to that screenshot, the other items that required an action DIDN'T glint right away. In fact, at first I thought it strange that the only glints were for the HOS, until I took too long to locate an item to pick up, and so I saw it glint, too. I thought this "feature" was great.... not everyone that chooses "Casual" wants the screen lit up like a Christmas tree as soon as they go to it! Gives us a chance still to find things on our own, and then just gives that extra nudge in the right direction if we seem to need it.
Let's see, game has finished downloading, so one last but not least, thing: the SOUND was also great --- and this coming from someone that 99% of the time only listens to the game for a short portion of the trial, then mutes it all to listen to my own music... Not just the background music, which was totally appropriate, and got me further engrossed, but also the voiceovers during the cutscenes were great. I actually kept the game's sound on the entire time - again, I'm totally amazed at this game!
Thanks again to all who developed and distributed this game - so truly creative of the graphics & sound departments, especially! More like this, please!!!
I recommend this game!

This game has started out just great! With its stunning graphics [think: bright rainbow], appropriate music - [even tho' the loop gets a little old], AND including great voice-overs -- the developers at ERS couldn't have done a better job!
The Golden Nuts and bolts of the game: to set up, you have choices of: Screen type - btwn wide, full, and maybe one other, I forget[!-sorry]; the usual sound level bars to adjust; and 3 Difficulty levels - Casual, Advanced and Hard [the latter eliminates black-bar tips, but not sparkles, also still has hints & skips but recharge is slower]
Achievements: from what I can tell, there are 18 different ones. Plus, you collect GOLDEN NUTS with fortunes inside, and a little ways into the game a Prince gives you an amulet for which you need to collect missing JEWELS. [collecting both Jewels AND Nuts? That just makes me smile!]
Map: Interactive, letting you hit on whatever scene you need to go back to - along with the info on whether the scene is complete or there are still objectives remaining. Gotta love those Jump-Maps!
Hidden Object Scenes/Puzzles: the HOS so far are different than the usual point-click; i.e. 1st one has you match up 8 pairs of items that "go together." Fun! And absolutely beautiful, too! The puzzles so far have been enjoyable, also - not too easy, not too hard... nice!
Storyline: well, here's my only - very small! - complaint about the game... We're helping a set of beautiful twins, young ladies, one of which saved the other's life already by the time our game has started; however, the one whose life was saved NOW has to save the other's life, because, after the first one saved her sister's life, she was then captured by a witch, and now SHE needs saving ... HUH? Well, maybe it's just me, but could this be any more convoluted? Actually, it's not hard to follow who's who in the story - I just wonder WHY THAT particular storyline, when there are so many other choices?? Not to mention, this storyline is hardly new. Just saying -
When the witch first appears, this looked VERY familiar: the witch comes through the mirror in one twin's bedroom, and it was definitely a case of deja'vu from a movie out not too long ago, with a Princess, 7 little men, and a wicked witch, who also liked to imprison a girl. Actually, it might have been intentional humor-? There is other humor in this game, i.e. when you first hear the witch, it's pretty funny to hear a grown - supposedly scary - woman sound so immature!! BTW, the cutscenes are animated like the gameplay, in other words, not real-life actors; in my opinion, this fits very well with the story and the other graphics. [sometimes the real-life actors don't seem to meld with the gameplay].
All things considered, even my disappointment with the storyline, ERS has made another great, fun game!! It's been completely enjoyable so far: I haven't finished it yet, but decided to buy after just 1/2 hr of gameplay. Take it for a test-run, it never hurts to try for free! You may just like it, too--
I recommend this game!

I started playing the demo - which loads really quickly, as does the entire game - and 10 minutes in, realized I was being silly, OF COURSE I NEED to buy this Blue Tea game! Why play more of demo, when I KNOW I want to play the entire game because it's Blue Tea, a varied version of a great, classic Fairy Tale again, and it's so much FUN!
Even the SE versions of the other games in this series are AWESOME, so if you like this demo, you can go ahead and be assured the others are just as good - and what a bargain for the others! [yeah, that's me, once again not able to take advantage of a great SALE PRICE on the other games!] Don't make the same mistake!
I happen to own the other 4, two in CE version, 2 in SE, and I love them ALL! The series all have morphing objects, and objects that once gathered, trigger other tales related to the current tale you're playing. Most "extras" like the former, are in SE versions too!
You won't be disappointed, esp. if you like "Fragmented Object Scenes" or FROGs - these are used instead of the usual HOS - in all the Dark Parables tales. Such beautiful artwork, I can't even begin to describe!
I recommend this game!

I can just tell you the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, based on 1-hr demo. Now, some may think what I dislike, you will LOVE, and vice-versa; that being said:
The Good:
-Adjustable light/dark when setting up your game, and can be adjusted while playing, too
-Beautifully detailed artwork
-Adorable were-ferret helper, that you release from captivity
-Humorous dialogue
The Bad:
-Heavy on the HOS, and I mean there are LOTS! [see, some of you will be confused I put this under "Bad" - You may love!]
-While some of the dialogue is humorous, there's too much overall, esp. between you and ferret -- gets annoying after a short time!
-Dialogue hard to understand when not captioned and not expected, i.e. at end of HOS by ferret [Is he telling me "great job," or just complaining too, because of having to squint so hard to see stuff??]
-I'm not sure what accent the VO actors are trying to emulate, maybe from another planet? -- Vida's especially!
-Can't believe I'm going to say this, but too FEW puzzles! I think there were 2 during whole demo
-I play on casual when I play a demo, so maybe this isn't true for the Expert mode [but something tells me it is]: the dialogue gives WAY too many hints as to what item to use and where [I mean, the glints everywhere, are really, truly, enough! Then again, I'm an adult, so maybe this is supposed to be a game just for kids?? Wish I had known that, if so!]
The Ugly:
While some of the above under "The Bad" could easily be listed here also, there are these add'l issues I have:
-While the artwork IS beautiful, no matter how light-dark one makes the screen, the HOS in particular, are the type that are extremely shadowed, I guess in order to make the items harder to find [?]
-HOS items not only are hidden via shadows, some are so small and/or so detailed as to be almost invisible
-One must try clicking on SOME items in different locations on the item, as your 1st, or more, attempts won't "clear" the item in a HOS [BIG pet peeve of mine! And, as if the shadows, details, etc. issues weren't enough in the scenes!]
-The voice-overs are irritating enough to be muted clear thru game. But listen if you can, for a bit anyway, to guess the accent - or if you want to have a laugh. Unfortunately one must still click to get past the convos that are between the cutscenes [non-skippable dialogue boxes - unless I missed an option for that?? Sorry, if so]
So, all things considered, I'd recommend you play the demo yourself, to decide, naturally... I want to add, I started off gaming with HOS-only games, which I truly loved, and I still really enjoy a balanced # of them in a HOPA game... My 1st purchase was The Hidden Object Game Show. These HOS are VERY reminiscent of those in that game, and others by the same Developer [maybe you even played one of them yesterday, since they were on sale] Even with the artwork being so much better than many of those older games, the shadowy HOS scenes just don't work for me. [In case you suspect otherwise, I have 20-15 vision]. Because of this, along with the many other little annoyances this demo provided, this one is NOT for me! Thanks anyway, BFG -- and I'm going to be checking back to see others' reviews... maybe it's just me, as it was about 4 a.m. when I started the game, and/or maybe I'm just PMS-ing, or something.... lol!
I don't recommend this game.

If you're looking for fun and unique, this game has it ALL!
I'm thrilled to be playing a game that isn't the same old, same old... I do get tired of the same "formula" that seems to be the usual for Hidden Object/Puzzle/Adventure games: the scary, sometimes supernatural monster, that captures the main character's daughter/spouse/mother/dog, and as the MC one has to go thru the usual obstacles to rescue her/him.
While playing this game [just played the 1 hr. demo - but I'm writing while downloading the entire game], so far I've learned that I'm in a town surrounded by a menacing forest full of mad [-crazy & -angry!] trees, and must use the power of light [literal] to repel them. So, IMHO, seems like a different storyline right there. I won't go into details more than that re: the story, so you can learn yourself... However, I will say that as far as the "mechanics" of the game, the Hidden Object scenes are different from any I've played before, EVER - and HOPAs are what fill up my Game Mgr. - so this is awesome to me! You're still finding objects, but what you do with them or what they do on their own, is unique - hooray for creativity! One hour along in the game, the puzzles have been different, too - not too challenging, rather, they're actually FUN, and not just something I have to get through to progress in the game - which is how I usually view most puzzles in other games [How long until I can skip this one? or will that penalize me somehow??]
There are achievements [quite a few!], including picking up acorns along the way. Another neat and actually helpful feature regarding the acorns, there's a little chart in the lower lefthand of the screen, where you can tap your acorn and it will fly up to a tree, which if you hover your cursor over the spot it goes to, tells you what scene it came from, and which scenes you can still find them! You don't have to find out this info if you don't want to...
These are just a couple of the great aspects of the game, and some of the reasons I felt like I HAD to purchase this game, without waiting for the SE version to come out to compare it with - I hate spending that extra $$$ for wallpapers and concept art [bleech! I could care less - sorry, Devs!]
I almost forgot, one of the best things in setting up your game: you have 4 options of difficulty!! Yep, FOUR - the fourth one is CUSTOM, which I've never seen before in ANY other game I've EVER played! WooHoo and Hooray! Thanks so much Developers and BFG, for a truly great and fun game! "You just gotta try it!!"
I recommend this game!

There's really no mystery here as to why this is a super-enjoyable game: Great, mysterious, intriguing storyline (a different take on your usual "cursed item" theme - this time it's your boss that needs rescuing... I just took my good sweet time about THAT! Well, within the confines of just 60 min., anyway!) Not only does the storyline keep you engaged, you also get collectables, AND achievements - this game will keep me coming back for more! Also, the mini-games are not your run-of-the-mill stuff... so nice to play something different for a change! A couple of the HOS in fact, aren't your usual HOS either; interactive for sure, but in a very unique way! Lots of fun is what sums up this game... I've just completed the demo - but with the sale this weekend, this one's going right into my little cart :) Thanks Big Fish, for another great game!
I recommend this game!
