Wow, is this one talky game. Characters talk endlessly, and sometimes you can't skip the dialog; there are pages & pages & pages of story in innumerable books found along the way, which repeat & repeat the story. And then in the bonus chapter there is an entire page of story scrolled slowly, (slowly!) until you get to the game. Yikes! The game itself is Blue Tea all over with beautiful graphics, fragmented HOPs, parables, etc. Some of the more frustrating games repeat & some make no sense. I liked it most of the time but go elsewhere if you are looking for innovation in mini games and fast moving gameplay.
I had tried some of the earlier Myths of the World and was lukewarm on them. Lately they have been much improved. The story line is good and doesn't run off into crazy. The graphics are good. Excellent music although sometimes it's distracting and I needed to turn it down or off. My favorite things are collectibles and morphing objects and this game doesn't disappoint. You have 2 elements to collect during regular play and morphing objects within the HOPs. Then if you don't find everything you get a chance to go back and finish in the extras section. That is really great because I usually come up a little short on the collectibles and it's frustrating to not be able to complete the collection without playing the game again. The extra chapter was of good length and in keeping with the main story. The extras were plentiful: you can play the HOPs again for time; can finish up the collections as I mentioned;there are souvenirs to find; and you can play the puzzles again. Only complaint I had was that the map stopped transporting you in the extra chapter. Otherwise a super fun game that takes awhile to complete and has multiple parts to love.
I like this series. The graphics are beautiful and the story follows along in a linear fashion so that you don't have to go back and forth too much. There is an interactive map, collectibles, and a good supply of extras once you finish the main story. You play as a Doctor trying to find the true murderer -- for me that character sort of appeared out of no where but maybe I wasn't paying attention. The HOPs are lists, or pictures, with some interaction. No morphing objects which is always something I enjoy. My one complaint was that the music, although intricate for a game and nice enough, took on a frantic tone in the oddest places. I'd recommend muting or lowering the volume.
Rite of Passage games follow a format. The HOP's all have morphing objects and the puzzles tend to be repetitive. Collectibles can be completed, if you haven't already done so, once you complete the bonus game. That's the problem here . Game is good although the characters are a little overwrought. Bonus game is fine up until the last moment. I suggest buying the SE only as the extras in the CE may not be accessible.
I haven't finished this game and it's been weeks since I bought it. I usually like the Dark Parables series but this one had me stopping play every chapter or so. The Good: beautifully drawn with exquisite detail. Visually spectacular. Most of the puzzles are fun and challenging. The Bad: OMG could it be more boring to go back and forth, forth and back, from room to room and back again to pick up one little item that then has to go into another room for use? Without the map to tell you where to go it would have been impossible to figure out your next move. With all the to-ing and fro-ing I long ago lost track of the story. It was about a mermaid but then Pinocchio showed up and then the Red Riding Hood Sisters appeared, and there's an eel…a king…orbs…my head hurts. And no strategy guide. And our main character (is she or isn't she?) has a squeaky annoying voice. A few of the puzzles show up over and over. There's one that I kept skipping because it was so difficult after the first level. And there were always 3 levels.
So I think in general this is a big fail for the Dark Parables series. Won't keep me from buying another in the series but this one is one to avoid. Sorry Blue Tea/Epix developers.
This House of 1000 Doors series is great. It has everything. HOPs with twists and interactive parts, morphing objects, clever puzzles, a map that transports you…..the only down side is the animation of the human characters--really poor; and they are a little wordy. The story is complicated with lots of scrolls to read and long winded explanations of the dire tale you are living through. But the rest is really great. I haven't finished yet and am already preparing for the next installment.
So far, after playing about half, I enjoy this game. The premise is cool, the visuals are good. Lots of HOPs with interaction in the puzzle. Good minis. But for a Collector's Edition, this has problems. Biggest problem is the Strategy Guide which doesn't stay where you put it--each time you use it, it goes back to the Table of Contents and you have to scroll through to find where you were and what you need. Big pain in the neck. NO MAP. Also big headache. No achievements. And have to say, the voices of these characters are really the pits. Does every female character have to sound like a child? These are the negatives. Positives are good story and fun through out. Love the morphing characters as always. Would recommend the game but save your money and get the standard version.
You've returned from school to visit your father at his famous Jazz Pepper Club during Mardi Gras, but everyone is hypnotized. Have they heard the wrong note?
First of all, when was the last time you had a game starring Afro-American characters? I loved that the heroine is the daughter of a jazz club owner. The jazz club is in New Orleans at Mardi Gras so we have lots of vivid characters, accents, plot details. The graphics are well done, although the mouths don't really coordinate, but that is so minor. The MUSIC is real jazz and something a music lover might listen to. There are many mini games that are so unusual and innovative--most of them I've never seen before and it was a real pleasure to have new challenges. The HOPs are interactive and again, newly figured so that they really are fun. There are morphing objects in the HOPs which I didn't realize until I'd missed some. So a good excuse to go back and play again. Collectible notes, which was something I picked up right away. Always appreciate the interactive map. I customized my level of difficulty and may try the fiendish level if I do go back. I know there are extras I can't get to without finishing but apparently there are more collectibles in the scenes already played and some other things I'm looking forward to. I've only played 2 chapters and I had to stop to come and review this game so you would buy it ASAP. Am loving it. Well done. Highly recommended.
This game is ok but quite frustrating to play because of the many technical glitches. Scenes take forever to load. There is a recurring game wherein you collect runes for your amulet but consistently these scenes do not load properly with only about a fourth of the scene actually displaying the artwork. So you click around blindly trying to find these hidden runes and eventually I usually skipped the whole thing. Which messes up your achievements, if you are into that. Good thing about the achievements--at the end of the game you can go back to the scenes where you missed the collectible and find them. I always resented it when I had to play the whole game over to find things. The story is good but the characters are VERY wordy and the animation of the human characters is only fair. I did like the mini puzzles and thought the HOPs were varied in their format and therefore more interesting. Think this will be the last Myths of the World I'll buy. Not loving the series.
I haven't finished this game but I like it. Always like the Mystery Tracker games. Good story, good graphics and a good mix of HOP, interactive features, and mini games. There's a map that hops you scene to scene and gives locations of objectives which is always helpful. And there is the helpful dog to find things for you. In this game there are morphing objects but they don't morph very readily--I found most of them by luck, not because they changed shape. They can't be missed because there is a "freeze" meter that indicates when one should be found. Not the most fun with morphing objects--usually like more and the technical aspect should be better. The real problem with this game is some of the mini puzzles are glitchy---you get to a point in the game and nothing will move forward--ex. mixing a potion and I couldn't pick up the test tubes. No tool to use, just pick them up and mix them and it wasn't happening--so had to skip the puzzle which is annoying and messes up your achievements, if you are into that. So be warned.
