This is a very traditional Hidden Object game and a relaxing one; Please try the demo to see if the puzzle types and difficulty level are for you. It was just right for me as a stress-reducer.
I really enjoyed the game for the story (including the dialogue). I have always loved Boomzap games and am really happy to see them back with games for the PC.
I play a fair number of Adventure/Hidden Object Games. This one stood out as having a well-constructed story with actual discovery of information by the player to move the story along and sensible interaction with other characters. The puzzles hit the right level of challenge for me as I had to work to get to solutions but not to the "insane frustration" level. I found the graphics exceptionally beautiful and well-done but I enjoy the more painterly/cartoon style the developers used so YMMV.
This is a true adventure game. It has been a long time since I found a game which made me think like a "detective" and really figure out what to do next. The story line and "punny" dialogue hold my interest and often make me laugh out loud. And I enjoy the cartoony illustrations and the voice acting
The game has jump map and, at least at the casual level, a skip button for the puzzles.
Please note: this is really not a hidden object game. Hidden object scenes exist only on the casual level. This is almost pure adventure.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
I have played all of the MCF games from the first Ravenhurst on and I have to say this is my favorite. I really enjoyed the new puzzles and strategies (eg matching the drawings to locations, finding objects from the HO lists in more than one location) as I am much more a fan of adventure games than straight HO games like Madame Fate. The story line kept my interest (i played most of the game on my day off to find out what happened next) and I thought the live acting was fine. I think Lea Thompson did a good job with a script that required her to do a fair amount of " scene exposition" and the Ghost Patrol was perfect!
I cannot comment on the Strategy Guide because I did not use it. I found the challenge level to be a good fit for me; the puzzles were not all easy but not so hard that I quit in frustration.
I think if you are looking for a a more old school HO game or one with tough individual "mind-bender" puzzles this game will disappoint but if you enjoy story-driven adventure this is worth the price of admission.
