Beautiful graphics, great twist near the end, fantastic storyline & villain and fab location.......so why the low rating and what went wrong?
Quite frankly the traipsing back and forth a long way was tiring. By the time you'd found what you were looking for you'd forgotten where it was supposed to go. The map, which was supposed to be helpful, wasn't. It didn't show where you should go, nor did it show you where the hog scenes were which it should have done.
The puzzles were uninspiring and i skipped most of them as they were boring.
I nearly gave up playing but stuck at it till the bitter end as id paid for it.
So, a frustrating game, which is a shame as the story had potential......but if you don't mind a LOT of traipsing about then you wont mind this game..if however you prefer a game which has an instant travel map then you might want to give this a miss.
I don't recommend this game.

From the Lockwood manor peeps comes this excellent almost cthulu-esqe mystery game. Thank goodness for the instant travel map.....which makes life much simpler.........you wont get too stuck as the map also gives you an idea of where you need to go to do something. Beautiful graphics and good storyline keep gameplay interesting. Puzzles are varied and good and there are just about the right amount of HO scenes. Another enjoyably good solid effort. Keep it up!!
I recommend this game!

5 stars all round. What a creepy, immersive, excellent game. Reminded me a little of Resident evil 4 with the church which is a good thing. Plenty of HO scenes (although i spent a looong time looking for a spectre (ghost) when in actual fact the item was a sceptre (long metal kingly rod type thing). Spelling mistakes aside the only other gripe was there is a lot of backing and forthing (but given the gorgeous scenes this is no bad thing)..please lets have instant travel via the map next time....positives are the great storyline and mystery....hidden locations, runes, demons, murders, and the stroke of genius which is the evidence wall. Try it and i bet you'll buy it.......its that good!! Looking forward to the sequel.............just please no more car mechanics (boring!!!!!!) and a more appropriate game title please as 'ghosts' was a little bit misleading and enigmatis is just impossible to spell without looking:0)
I recommend this game!

Intriguing storyline, good characters, a murder mystery and revenge plot line plus beautiful artwork equals a game well worth owning. Instead of the usual HOG items you have to find parts of an object (personally i dont like these kind of HOGS so its a testament to the quality of this game that it still makes it fun to play.) The puzzles are of the same type and are only a few which is a shame as i like a lot of puzzles in my games, but it really is the story in this game that drives your desire to see it through to the end. There is some backtracking esp at the end but its simple enough to remember your way around. The hint button allows you to see how you use a particular item and the map tells you where you need to go so you never really get stuck. A beautiful game which is a decent length. Definitely a solid 4 stars.
I recommend this game!

Im not sure if i can add anything more to the already excellent reviews on this brilliant game. I can add my thumbs up to this brilliant series and agree with everyone else......that this really is an superb game that stands at the top of the big fish catalogue of games and claims the gold standard that other games have to live up to.
There are a few minor niggles that i will mention in the off chance that someone who makes the games might read and take note of:-
I got lost on more than one occassion of what task i was doing and had to use the hint button (which i dont like doing but my memories awful these days so i had to).......if there had been a list on the map screen that kept track of your tasks then that would have helped me considerably. Also when a room was completed a tick or cross could have helped, saving me backtracking to an area that didnt need me to backtrack back to it on several occassions.
But these are minor gripes and didnt really spoil the game for me that much. What can i say about the positives? Loved the visuals, audios, puzzles, extras, owl and i bet everyone whose played this wants Elf!!
Looking forward to the next installment from MT........gets the full five stars from a very happy gamer :0)
I recommend this game!

I bought this game based on the demo and this review is for the full game.
PLUS:-
The game is both visually and audibly outstanding. The nursery rhyme song which kicks in at the appropriate moments really adds to the atmosphere and the sound effects were spot on. The movement is fluid and the little box which pops up when you collect an item is a nice touch. The game starts with a few jumps and scares and its atmosphere is perfect, but unfortunately this wanes as the game progresses. The HOS were almost spot on with the items giving a reasonable challenge for once; you really need to have an eagle eye for some of them.
MINUS:-
Lack of puzzles was one minus; this is a very HOS led game. There is a journal which updates every time you find an new page, but it dosent always go directly to the new page so you have to find the new entry which is a bit of a chore. Lack of a map is also a minus for me as i tend to forget where certain places are, but the goals are clearly written and very useful. The real bugbear, which other reviewers have also mentioned seemed to be the rather abrupt nature of the ending; i found myself with pieces of an unfinished chore still in my inventory both at the end of the original game and again at the end of the bonus chapter which also unfortunately ended rather abruptly. Its this rather messy ending with unfinished business which has merited the 3 stars i awarded the game. It would have been 3 and a half if you could award half stars, but it just misses the 4 mark.
A game that started off splendidly, which had tons of atmosphere, gorgeous graphics and fantastic audios but ran out of steam at the end, finishing abruptly and leaving several things unfinished. A shame as this could have been a real corker. Still recommended but just be aware that the ending might leave you feeling a little unsatisfied.
I recommend this game!

A good solid occult orientated investigative HOG game.
PLUS:- Great visual and audio; simple but fun storyline that moved the game along; nice puzzles; plenty of HO scenes; a good length game.
MINUS:-no map; felt a little rushed in places particuarly towards the end and ending was quite abrupt..........although it left it open for a sequel; no extras or mini games :0(
CONC:-A good entry into the occult section of HOG. Nothing too taxing and will appeal to beginners, intermediates and even experts.
I recommend this game!

I had a corking review title but had to asterix it as it would have given away the ending of this superb supenatural whodunnit. Like all good ghost stories it begins with you inheriting an island with a mansion and a creepy past. Why these things dont happen in real life i dont know but if they ever do we will all be very well prepared and equipped to deal with whatever an extremely annoyed vengeful spirit has to throw at us.
PLUS:-Audio and visuals are perfect. The music alone is of the highest quality and reminded me of other games like Silent Hill. Sound effects add to the game. Movement is fluid and there is no delay between scenes. HOS are fine, nothing too hard, nothing too taxing. Puzzles are different and present a medium level of challenge. The objects you find are plentiful and you can combine them to make another object which you can then use. The tasks are clearly written down and require some thought to sort, but all are logical. The length is good, i got about 3 evenings worth of play and of course there is the bonus chapter on the Collectors Edition which ties the story up nicely. Nice diary/photo album/story and task list...all easily accessible and looked great.
MINUS:- Lack of map which requires a lot of backing and forthing although not a major problem due to the smooth scene change but just stops the natural flow of the story if your busy trying to work out where to go and what to do next; for me an instant travel really helps the continual flow of the story. No hints button. I prefer one of these to the ingame walkthrough, again this is to do with the flow of the game rather than anything else and is just a personal preference. Also the lack of puzzles was a disappointment......the more puzzles for me in a game the better. I love the games which include mini games and puzzles by the bucket load, and that you can replay once the game is over and although you get wallpapers, videos, artwork and the bonus chapter with the CE there is no opportunity to replay anything. the pirate ship game could easily have been added to replay and they missed an opportunity to invent the family tree puzzle game as i loved working that one out! Shame.
CONC:- A beautiful game with a stroyline that is as good as it looks and sounds. The very best quality in gameplay and a game that requires thought when playing. It only lost a star due to the lack of collectibles, mini puzzles and other goodies that for me merits the full 5 stars.
Highly Recommended.

I wish i'd read the reviews BEFORE purchasing.
PLUS:-yes, youve read it before the graphics are indeed gorgeous. i love the 3d hove-ing into view that gives you a real interactive experience and it does make the game stand out; the storyline is interesting and does keep you playing until the end; multi-options for those brave enough to reply.
MINUS:-gameplay and controls..........one click to pick up and use.............no.....you have to click around in order to control anything, and to save a lot of frustration just right click to drop. items were hard to use...........the armour springs to mind as does the potions and the harpischord.................no skip button on this particular puzzle too so it took me a long long long time to figure out what to do due to the awkward controls. Its these controls that really ultimately ruin the experience. Couple that with pointless boring puzzles......some impossible to do........letter folding to find a secret message which i had to skip every time as the controls dont let you fold them properly is one that springs horrendously to mind.........grrrrr very very frustrating, and im afraid i need a bit more than gorgeous graphics for a satisfying game experience.
Very very disappointing........will not be replaying.
I don't recommend this game.

I really wanted to like this. It started well, but finished quite abruptly. As usual the ordinary edition had nothing in terms of extras and so the gaming experience was ultimately unsatisfactory and i didnt feel like id achieved anything at the end of it.
PLUS:-Task list easily accessible on screen with a 'to do' list which came in handy (and was room specific so you didnt get lost.) Nice graphics, especially the rings, keys and statues, fast hint recharge, basic but interesting storyline with individual characters.
MINUS:- No map. some hidden objects were impossible to find.....either hidden right at the bottom of the screen or under water and invisible, the matching pairs games was a bit dull, story felt like it was dragging towards the end, the puzzles werent very inventive.
Could have been so much better......for me the game ultimately is not replayable. Pity as it had started well. What a shame.
I don't recommend this game.
