I have everyone of these and must admit I like them all; some are probably better than others but I don't care. I have been waiting for something to keep me happy and amused and this does it; I am also a fan of the Laruaville series and Jewel match games. Bring them on!!
I have to admit I was also surprised by the high ratings on this game; I beta tested it (gave it a low score). I must admit I also found it was an overkill on the mini games, so much so that my head was spinning running around trying to find the stones before the enemy. Also the guy with the moustache and dark glasses was so fake looking that he really annoyed me. I have liked other Vermillion games but could not like this one
I agree with just the facts on this and he has said it all. I would just like to add that it may not have all the bells and whistles but it is a good game and you do have to use the little grey cells a few times without a lot of help. I used the hint button a number of times just to see where best for my next move. The HO's were as he said a bit different but not in a bad way in fact I found them fun to do. Don't forget you can use a coupon and there haven't been too many games that I would buy even with the coupon. Try it, you just might find it hits the fun spot!
The intro gave no impact and did not leave you with any wow feeling. Don't worry, it gets better once into the game.
The visuals were okay if somewhat a bit ordinary, no real wow about them and a bit dark in places. The sounds were good and the voice although not one of my favourites, she has the voice that did the Margrave and a few others, I always found she grated on my senses, however this time she has gone a lot softer and doesn't forever keep saying "I wonder what I should do here!!" etc., so was pleasant to hear
The storyline is good, she is a detective, looking for the towns folk that worked at the local toy factory but when it closed they simply vanished. She has an annoying boss that leaves messages for her on her mobile, she is working alone although a work associate had been before her but left, is there something in this? another mystery!
I loved it that she actually pulls out money from an ATM so isn't forever looking for some cash, really? how original. I found the first part to be easy which I don't mind when trying to find my feet and feel like I'm chasing my own tail.
I played expert so don't know if the casual will do the same as it did for me in HOGS, which there are I think, a few too many. The shaded items where very difficult to find and I have to hold up my hand and say I ended up using the hint button for them, they then changed to something totally different which were easy to find. I think I must have clicked on nearly every item so have no idea where they were and there was no looking in a pot or moving an item to look for them.
Once reaching another area in the game, another factor comes into being and I'm not sure but I think they were aliens, if not they were not of the present day or this world. She is still not sure what she is looking for to help her find the missing people!
Warning! if you have a weak heart be prepared to get a twinge in one of the scenes, I nearly jumped out of my skin!
This may not be one for the hard gamers but I found the fun factor darn good and this will be a buy #voucher# for me. I did not reach the end but then I can be somewhat slow.
This is based on demo only and I finished before the one hour, just! I played Expert The intro was corny and the figures on the street scene un-natural, fortunately it didn't go for long.
There are 15 morphing objects and 44 Maria's bouquets, very pale roses. There is a map and direction help.
The voice overs were good, again sometimes a bit corny but bearable. I did not have the music up because it was annoying.
Hogs were easy and so were the mini-games, I expected that because of the choice of expert, I did not see the sparkles and there were supposed to be some to which I was glad about as I hate them.
I don't play advanced with demo's because of the time factor. I did not need the direction help because the things you picked up or received usually helped with the next move and I used hint once to see in which direction but of course got the portal to go through.
All in all I liked the game and I think that was because of the clearness with visuals and voices plus the storyline, it was fun. Some may say same old same old but this will be a buy for me.
I have given it 4 stars for a number of reasons, would have given 5 as I know I will enjoy it (this is on the 1 hour only) but one thing I hate in games is where the prompt line keeps repeating "not my finest hour" I'm afraid that didn't work", you don't say if you can't be constructive, say nothing! It gives no indication what so ever of what would work. I don't need my hand held and try not to use hint but there are times I'm not capable of being a mind reader!
The voice overs are good but not in sync so you find yourself looking at the words to avoid the silly look on the faces and lips, if you know what I mean. Because I decided I would write a review #my first ever# I did not get as far as I would have liked #plus I am a bit slow anyway# it's alright for you young ones.
The story line is interesting albeit a little familiar, the level of challenge is probably a bit too easy for those hard core gamers but then I like to be able to understand the instructions and sometimes just don't get it and I hate running around trying to get the message or having to go Ax3 Cx5 etc. I lose patience!
I found the quality really good, the hogs were clear if sometimes a little misleading, a pair of scissors were really long nosed cutters/pliers and a file looked more like a letter opener until going into inventory.
The crystal box helps you to make things #interesting# so you can go forward in the game, there are 25 masks to find. There are achievements, I'm not one for those as I'm normally concentrating on my next move and they just annoy me.
I needed the tutorial for the first 5 minutes as I did not realise the reason for the box, I cancelled it after that. I do hope I've given nothing away as I have no idea if any of the things I've written are spoilers. I will buy the CE and especially as it's 2 for 1 it's a bargain and will give me some hours of fun!
