You have nightmares about a strange sign and are contacted by Kear. He assures you that he knows what your problem is and how to fix it. You must meet him at the cemetery at midnight.
You arrive early, in time to see Kear attacked by Olaf, a soul devourer.
You will need to save not only Kear but Olaf's three earlier victims in order to save yourself. Your first soul to help is Deloris, a young woman whose husband disappeared, leaving her to raise their daughter, Lizzie, alone while trying to manage the family's vineyard. You will try to save the child from a burning house.
Good stuff: The artwork is very recognizable as that of the series, being well drawn with muted colors. You will run around collecting threes and eights of various things that are in your face, including the collectible "morphing" coins - they are not morphing so much as blinking in and out of the picture.
Bad stuff: If you don't instantly recognize everything about this game, you haven't played any of the series before this. The story is lack luster and a retread of earlier games. Only the names have been changed to confuse the public and make them think there might be something faintly interesting going on here.
You will want to throw in the towel about the time you are decorating a scarecrow while a child is trapped in a burning house. Or perhaps the clouds of black smoke from the demon/soul devourer will get you sooner. (Can anyone explain why a demon/soul devourer would have a casket or be buried in a cemetery? As he's an unearthly presence, what would you put in the box?)
Bottom line: I own ten of the Redemption Cemetery games because they were well done with interesting stories that drew you in with good puzzles and HOPs. I really wanted this one to be just as entertaining.
I just don't need another cookie cutter!
Please play the demo and decide for yourself.
I don't recommend this game.

You get to play this Labyrinth as Margaret, the sister we rescued in a couple of earlier games in the series.
As cataclysmic disasters strike the earth, you, Margaret, have your TV time interrupted by a surprise visitor, Davona, another Seeker from earlier games. She has arrived to tell you that your brother, Simon, has gone missing. You will need to find him and help the Seekers recapture escaped master criminal, Dietrich, who is to blame for the current crisis.
Good stuff: Everything you expect to see in a HOP/adventure CE game including collectible cards, tokens, and articles about Dietrich among the CE bling.
Bad stuff: You know where the story is headed when you are locked inside your own home and must run around finding the key before you can let Davona inside.
Looking for strange locks? You have a small safe in your coffee table that can only be opened with your Brother's seeker badge number, which you fortuitously get from Davona.
How about strange things under lock and key? Find three crystals and you can open a cache that includes a bag of nuts, which you will carry around till you find a small animal to feed it to!
Also, in a hole in the wall? The drawer handle that keeps falling off.
Crazier still? The cache is behind your first Seeker trophy, which spouts, " Death to all Seekers!"
How about the hardest way to get from here to there? Go under water from the top of a cliff instead of from the beach below.
Of course, there's more.
If the Seekers need their energy net to travel between worlds and Dietrich is going to disrupt it, how will Simon give Dietrich the ability to travel between worlds over that energy net?
You should play the demo before you buy.
Yes, really. You should.

I have several of the Hiddenverse games. I like the contrast to a more story-centered HOP game.
As an average game, this one has nice clear artwork, seemingly endless piles of clutter and various ways you need to sort through the "stuff" to collect points and stars. The stars let you purchase upgrades for something in the game. In this case you will be improving a mansion that you have been given - and its run down condition makes it more a punishment than a reward! And you must collect and use those stars to advance in the game.
As for the story, trust me when I say you had best not buy this Hiddenverse games for the story line. It is not only story light, but this is the third game in a row that ends with a cliff hanger and includes characters mentioned in the earlier games. Be forewarned: No one at Shaman Games seems to have any intention of finishing those cliff hangers, as one major character was killed off in the last game!
Bottom line: If you are just looking for a time killer, you found it, no great skill or attention required.
Try the demo before you buy and happy gaming.

A new Spirits of Mystery game has hit the fan. All of its pieces are scattered about and we are left to pick up the bits.
Once again a princess is at some distance from home; the why is never explained. Terrible things are happening back in the city. Even though she is out of the way, she will naturally rush in where fools fear to tread to rescue her mother.
The biggest question you must answer is: Do you care?
There is so much hand holding in this game it becomes embarrassing after a while. Puzzles are so easy, I never even noticed if there are instructions for them. Puzzle pieces are outlined for you to place them correctly. An amulet will protect against deadly flowers and beeps as you pass over each one on the screen - just in case you aren't watching for them.
The other game play mechanics are just as sad.
Your aunt hands you a crown to enter the city you will some day rule. Luckily auntie had time to hide the jewels from the gate key/crown, before giving it to you.
Once in the city, you will need to put out a fire started by the Dark Reaper to trap the Oracle. None of the citizens has noticed the fire and you will need to repair the only source of water nearby before you can quench the fire with three buckets of water that involve another childish puzzle.
Somewhere in the process of saving the Oracle and opening the portal to the cemetery, I realized that even my youngest grandchild - now six years old - would find the game play too easy. I wonder who it was designed for?
You may have noticed the bell curve of the review results. Take a hint. Try the demo. I'm wrapping presents instead of playing this game!
I don't recommend this game.

Tell me if you've heard this one: Nathaniel is on a trip and finds himself being called to investigate a case. He will find himself trapped in a surprisingly short amount of time, again.
If that sounds familiar, you've just started another Unseen Fears game.
Nathaniel travels to the home of Brigitte, a young woman who has asked for his help while he is on a trip. He arrives in time to see her forcibly pulled away from a window. As he is contemplating the beauty of the city, Brigitte's sister arrives, concerned for Brigitte's safety. She and Nathaniel enter the house only to see an upstairs door slam in their faces. When they finally enter the bathroom, it is to discover Brigitte's body, fully clothed and in the over-flowing bathtub.
From that point on, there are constant oddities in the story and game play that left me wondering who fact checked this poor little game before they kicked it out the door. After the short and trite "interview" published in the local paper with Nathaniel, I felt myself on a downward slide!
There are lots of reasons why you need to check out the Demo before you buy. The biggest one involves your personal tolerance for disjointed story-telling and odd busy bits thrown in to take up time. The next problem will be deciding if you buy into a supernatural sleuth who can't see a four-fingured villain setting him up.
Please play the Demo.
I don't recommend this game.

Our parents fought Florena untill our father finally defeated her. During the long struggle our mother was killed. Now father has also died. My sister and I must save humanity from Florena newly released by Gracien, a friend of Father's who lost his wife, Vivienne, in the final conflict. There will be a vengeful Florena, her forest monsters, and adventures along our journey. Wish us luck!
Good news: The artwork is not as highly colored as some we've seen lately, but it still tries to blind the unwary. We don't HAVE to find a bee smoker, coals, fire, and brush to clear the bees from a tree - it turns out that sister Adele carries bee repellent around with her in a perfume bottle! There is an alternative to the HOPs and collectible seeds, butterflies, and statuettes among the CE bling.
Bad news: The cookie cutter used to make this game is still dirty from the last one it was used on. We will be given the task of saving humanity by stumbling through one mundane chore after another. As if the bees aren't bad enough, there will be a boat to mend and a great quantity of amulet parts to find to open/fix things, including a five part lock to get some solidified tar and a sheet of tracing paper!
And you may wish to skip the story details as they are not well thought out - dear old Dad signs a letter to his daughter with his first name. His diary, one of several story HOPs, is left with his body, with all the parts of its lock amulet in the tomb with him. Then the attendant HOP calls for you to find a scar - there is one on dad's face - but you must open the shirt on the body to find another one! And why would anyone imprison something bent on humanity's destruction with three keys? And no secrecy about where those keys are located?
There's more sadness. Good luck.
Please play the demo. There is a spread of opinion and you need to decide where you fall in that arc.
I don't recommend this game.

Demon Hunter 5 starts with a phone call from the director of a museum,Edmund Strange. You play as the top demon hunter, Hector Cole. (Don't feel badly if the name is not familiar - this is not the star demon hunter from the previous game.) A tourist has not come out of the museum and the owner and his wife cannot find the man. There seems to be a great deal of paranormal activity in the museum building. You will need to enter and find the victim.
First off you should know that Hector is very gullible. I know this because he forges ahead even when every corner holds a closed circuit camera, most often pointed at him and following his every move. He finds notices of IRS action, overdue bills, and the electricity being cut off. He goes right on "investigating" even when he finds the camera control room.
Of course players will not be surprised at the perfidy of the museum owner - we were told about it on the game's BFG page. Surely Hector should have been suspicious somewhere along the way.
Next you should be aware that any attempt at frightening you will fall short in originality and creativity.
Then you should know that Mrs. Strange looks like a member of a famous male rock band and the "IRS" letter is strangely worded. I won't mention the repeated back and forth through the few demo locations or the overly familiar tasks you must perform.
Finally I will once again suggest: Play the demo for yourself. Know what is being dumped on you. Purchase wisely so that the next game may be better. Do not reward ineptitude!
I don't recommend this game.

By this time you know this is a mystery with multiple victims and you are investigating by special request of the perp! Your brother is the final victim to rescue and you have your work cut out for you as you examine each crime scene and receive clues from the bad guy.
I will not be exploring anything in a game so poorly constructed. The premise was tossed in the trash from the get-go with poor execution, weird details, odd English translation, and absolutely no attention to details.
You arrive at the university building in the middle of the night to be greeted by a distinctly American cop whose mouth is not only not in sync but continues moving after he finishes speaking.
I won't comment on the recovery of your car keys from out of the sewer - you wouldn't believe me.
Your car and the ambulance next to it have their steering wheels on opposite sides of the vehicle. Any guesses on that?
You get inside to investigate. The coroner and chief detective send you alone into the "principal's" office. So, has the crime moved from the college/university into a high school or elementary?
You investigate the scene of an apparent suicide. There are strange dirty footprints on the rug. You find more of them out in the foyer - except they darken the farther they progress into the building. Conclusion: the criminal has self-inking shoes!
You wear a special pair of glasses to investigate each scene. Once on, they make each scene look as though it were covered by a thin veil and has strange shafts of light coming from the side.
You head to your office where you make a computer sketch of the second victim's photo, left by the bad guy. Huh? You have a photo, but a bad sketch is better?
You head out to the female victim’s room. You must get through the front door of the FRATERNITY house to get to her room.
Just in case you are unfamiliar with college traditions, fraternities are Men's organizations. They do not feature women residents. Certainly not women with rooms off the entrance area.
And, just for clarity, few organizations will have a door lock that includes breaking their property to get in the building. Nor will they have light switches on the outside of the building.
And how likely is it that the female in question entered her locked room without the key card left in her handbag in the reception room. (And aren't you glad you randomly picked up that sausage while at the office building and have been carrying it around all this time? You have something to trade her doggie to let you take that key card out of the victim's bag.)
It is not possible to be immersed in any game that throws cold water over its players every few seconds.
Try the Demo.
PLEASE try the Demo.
Then perhaps you will understand my frustration.
Just do not buy this "game" before you play the Demo.
I don't recommend this game.

You play as Regina, Elliot's second wife. She is excited that they are finally going to have a party at their home - the house once shared by Elliot and his first wife, Caroline. Regina's twin sister, Marianne, arrives a day early to help with party preparations. Your housekeeper, Matilda, will also lend a hand. However, even before the party gets under way, things start to get a little twisted. Regina sees Caroline's image flicker across the glass doors in the hall and in her mirror. Then, during the party, Marianne disappears wearing your costume and the other guests also are MIA. What is going on here?
Good stuff: I liked the HOPs and mini-games. The artwork was clear, beautifully colored, and the house was thoroughly decorated from the pile of Jack-o-lanterns in the front yard to the decorations in the bathroom. Along with the assorted CE bling, we will be looking for witches in each scene and morphing objects in some of the HOPs. Caroline puts in a ghostly appearance that I thought was well done, while the bad guy is definitely my idea of scary!
Bad stuff: The opening animation is not as helpful in telling the background of the story as you might think. It implies that Elliot was devastated by Caroline’s death. But then reviewers seem to think Caroline blames him for her death. And two of the male characters, even in costume seem to be confused by the Devs and interchanged in one scene.
Bottom line: I like mildly scary, as opposed to heart attack inducing blood chillers. I thought this game was scary but not nightmare-ish.
Everyone seems to see something different here. so this is one time when you really need to try the Demo first. Will this be your appetizer to Halloween? Or the moldy pumpkin you find broken in the front yard?
I recommend this game!

The Heroine of The Legacy series, Diana, is sent by Deborah Whitwick to help find a cure for a mysterious disease unleashed at a Museum opening from an artifact. The artifact was one of the discoveries of a team funded by the Whitwick Charitable Foundation. The disease has spread with alarming rapidity. Miss Whitwick asks Diana to help the team on the remote group of islands, the White Wing Archipelago, as they search for a cure believed to have been part of the legacy of the Cult of the Wolf Queen. Diana flies out with Miss Whitwick's own pilot, Sebastian, in Miss Whitwick's helicopter. Before they reach the largest island, the copter crashes and our adventure has begun.
Good stuff: Along with interesting puzzles, a variety of HOPs, and a good story, you will find an avalanche of collectibles. I spotted snakes, horses, elephants, and morphing objects just in the demo. Each completed collection promises a new puzzle will be available in the Extras section of CE bling. The artwork is beautifully done and adds to the story.
Bad stuff: If only someone had offered to edit the game for logic and ESL. Several times spoken dialogue did not match what was on-screen, but it was the detail fails that jarred.
Diana and Sebastian start out in broad daylight. They crash and run around an island. The single inhabitant, Soren, is not helpful when they first meet as he is distracted by thieving birds flying off with some markers he needs. Eventually someone comments on how early it is - except the sun is low and rosy on the horizon. As it seems to grow darker as Diana and Sebastian run back and forth, I was confused.
I was more confused when they enter a beautifully preserved building - Diana comments on the centuries it has stood - and then find most of the five wooden leaves they need to open a trunk in Soren's cabin.
Soren seems to be on the island temporarily, yet his cabin is a well-built structure with more than its share of locked storage. The confusion grew when Soren had gold and precious stones laying out on a table in his cabin, but he had a sheet of bare metal and a lighter locked in a space in the floor.
And I'm still trying to connect the pretty ornate hair pin stuck in the pocket of one of Soren's shirts.
Bottom line:The overall game is worthy of your consideration. It seems to promise a convoluted story wrapped in beautiful artwork and lots of bling.
Please try the Demo for yourself.
I recommend this game!
