You are the County Bounder called in to help a small town when local citizens have gone missing by wandering off into the nearby marsh. You arrive after the inevitable crash, this time a horse drawn carriage. The town's sheriff is also missing, having gone into the marsh with a local citizen, Prof. Brant. You are bound(er) to follow after them. Good Stuff: Nice artwork; four game levels, including a custom level; HOPs of various kinds; mini-games of various levels with occasionally acceptable instructions; and non-irritating music. Bad Stuff: Not enough story-line - bad things may be happening in the swamp, but there is little information to make you invested in helping the town's people. I found some scenes very reminiscent of other games by this developer. Basically, I don't know why I should venture out into the danger zone after a man looking for his wife. With more story to go on, I might not mind endless puzzles with minor results such as running around to get pieces of equipment and making paints, among other puzzles, just to get an ancient lighter. Please don’t ask to what lengths you need to go to use that lighter. We will both weep. There is nothing here to make you want to play this game. Instead I intend to contemplate why I was playing as the COUNTY BOUNDER. (Definition of BOUNDER: 1: one that bounds 2: a man of objectionable social behavior : cad ) Why did they choose that title for the character? I can’t recommend what I will not purchase. Please try the Demo for yourself.

You are Eve Glover, already in a car on your way to CCPP, when you receive a message from Professor Samantha Bennett requesting your help for an inhabitant from another world who had arrived by portal. As soon as you see the Professor, you are given a blood sample and told to cure the new arrival of his mystery disease. Even though we have no idea why he is sick and you do not stop to talk to him, you are now the resident expert on his illness and harmonium. (I think this was the first point at which I wanted to bail, but I hung in there.) There is some running back and forth as the only pair of gloves to run the blood sample through the testing equipment is retrieved from a locked cabinet in another room, among other time wasters/puzzles as you find the medicine that will cure the alien. The magic medicine instantly cures him and he introduces himself as Kraixx. Too bad none of the scientists in the facility could bother to run that blood they drew. Aren't you lucky that they waited for your arrival. Good stuff: No opening vehicle crash. HOPs with a marble-popper alternative, mini-games, and various puzzles to open locks on everything. There are little owl shaped pieces to collect in the scenes and some CE bling. There is artwork. Game-play is like a great many other games with the addition of a gauntlet to harness the black or white harmonium energy by completing a matching puzzle. Bad stuff: The VOs were OK sound wise but did not sync with the characters' lips. Both female characters in the opening have a strange stance, an off tilt to their bodies with oddly placed arms. Facial expressions do not impart the emotions of their voices, or perhaps the voices and dialogue are too serious for the faces. The developers were much more successful with the male character. There is no diary and the map is a two stepper - click on a location to open a window, click on the window to go there. And once again you will need to save the world, in a story that leaves me wondering why you want to do so. Once I saw the other world, I did bail. I am confused by anyone who says they don't like a game and then recommends it. I cannot endorse a game I will not be purchasing. I do recommend you try the demo for yourself.

I have a problem here - The points to rate the game on are not what you need to know with this game, so please bear with me. You are the photographer at an afternoon wedding at someone's home. It is clearly nightfall and you are headed there to finish up the wedding photos. (Wait. If the wedding is over, why are you going back to the house to take more pictures in the midst of a gathering storm?? And if this family had a wedding in the house that just ended, how come there is a single table on the porch from guests and no other evidence of any great occasion as you are shown about a couple of downstairs rooms by the sister of the bride, Martha? And why would she need to show you around if you've already been taking pictures there? And they had a wedding with torn wallpaper in the main hall? And the family dog so out of control that you have to rescue the butler from his attentions?) Things become more confusing as the VOs disappear from the sound track toward the end of the demo. Up until then the VOs were actually fairly good - the father of the bride is especially strange. The music is impressive in the opening clip but rapidly heads south after that. The story seems promising until all the anomalies start to grate on your nerves. The dark and stormy night is an appropriate setting for a mystery, but none of the setup makes sense. And, yes, I know it's just a game, but you can't sell a murder mystery without logical clues, reasonable motive, and a roster of suspects. The game-play is like a lot of other Vast Games products, just everything else is sad and a waste of time. When you try the demo remember you were warned.

The Dreamatorium of Dr Mangus 2 is of course a sequel to The Dreamatorium of Dr Mangus. I remember being unimpressed with the first game, but I'm liking the second one better. You play as Iris Birdwood, a paranormal investigator, looking for her next case. She finds it when Lara is kidnapped right off of the bicycle she is riding in the street near the detective. A dark force simply envelopes her and our detective goes to work. Quirky becomes the descriptive word for this game almost immediately. After finding the house the girl was headed for, you question the occupant, Dr Mangus, who disappears into the library leaving you to make him tea. (Say what?) You are working on the tea when you are first threatened by the supernatural force that kidnapped Lara. Your involvement in the case becomes more urgent and compelling from that moment. What is going on? What does Dr Mangus know? Who or what took Lara away? Good stuff: various HOPs, decent mini-games, some well hidden collectible Eye of Horus, and some well drawn locations. Bad stuff: Iris's dialog should be read only, as the VO sounds rather bored. The one progressive HOP I found to be non-intuitive. And why choose the Eye of Horus as the collectible? But, and this is a big but, this is an SE with collectibles, a fairly good story-line, and decent game play. If you have a free coupon, this is a win-win! Try it and see!

You are sent to investigate the area that is the center of unusual seismic activity in Montana. You arrive with a partner without the usual vehicle crash. (YAY!) You set out to investigate strange signals and a nearby observatory, once abandoned, now suddenly very active and very secretive. You also find out you are to help a young girl who has apparently tried to escape from the observatory. Good Stuff: Different types of HOPs, various fairly interesting puzzles and mini-games, clear and vibrant artwork, and decent VOs. Bad Stuff: I REALLY wish they had provided more story in the demo, some link to the girl that would make us want to rescue her. But, hey, this is a new Hidden Expedition game - finally - and I bought into that! So much so, that I have completed the CE version I bought. And, while the extra chapter was nice, if you haven’t already gotten this great addition to the Hidden Expedition series, please try the SE demo. This is one solid game with an evolving story.
I recommend this game!

I have learned over the last year to approach a new installment in any great series with a sense of trepidation. After so many disappointments, I'm happy to report that Redemption Cemetary: Clock of Fate will NOT leave you sad and weary. You are once again called upon to help lost souls to redemption and this time promises to be even more of a balancing act than before. You will have to choose the fates of many against the fate of one in your very first challenge. Will you save the Bridge-keepper's daughter or the train load of passengers rapidly approaching the bridge? The game-play is well done, with the nice mix of puzzles, games, and HOPs along with the bits of story-line that we've come to expect from this series. There are four levels of game-play with a twist in the custom setting - you can have a short recharge time on the hints or the skip, but not both as they share a single slider with one button on each end. I have all of the previous games in the Redemption Cemetary series and was primed to like this one. Be sure to try for yourself and see what we are enjoying in this new entry in the series.

If this had been released as an SE, I suspect more of us would have been on board. As a CE without the bling, well, isn't that an SE? You watch as brother? boyfriend? Jason is gunned down in the street in front of you. (Not my cup of tea as an intro, but at least the bad guy's car didn't crash first.) Jason asks you to complete his job as he's loaded into an ambulance. You go home, read through his file, and set out to keep an appointment for that very evening. Just after arrival at the hotel, you witness a man's abduction. The hotel manager snarls at you to go back to your room. So off we go on this little adventure. Good Stuff: Mildly interactive HOPs with a mahjong alternative, LOTS of mini-games and puzzles, and a fairly decent story. Bad Stuff: The music is repetitive, some puzzles/mini-games had inadequate instructions, any game logic left the building before the game started. The Devs could not focus on where this is supposed to be happening so there is a confusing mix of American and English settings, accents, and characters. I could nitpick on a variety of game-play and story problems, but I won't as I am so sad that this opportunity was thrown to the wind by the Developers. The story had great promise but is just not worth the CE price. I will reconsider with the SE, but in the meantime, I can not recommend what I will not purchase. Please see for yourself.

When you finally enter the Hotel, it is to meet Amanda, the owner. Within moments a fire breaks out. She hands you a key to the fire safety equipment upstairs. She is panicked and needs you to rescue the only picture of the professor that died in the fire. Naturally with all the sudden fire in the area, she not only keeps the equipment locked up, but it is not functional either. Better yet, the deceased professor's picture hangs next to the stairs off the lobby. Maybe she's just forgetful. Lucky you.
The game elements are pedestrian at best. HOPS, mini-games, and story are all there, just lacking in various respects. HOP objects are weirdly colored, like the handkerchief in yellow plaid, of which only one square of the plaid is visible. The minigames are flawed in execution, like the fire hose that only sprays the very bottom of a fire that reaches the ceiling. The story does not make sense, like why are fires occurring now when the university burned several years ago. The game-play is confusing and stilted. I want to run screaming into the night, but it is dinner time and I'm cooking. I will pass on this one. I need some logic, no matter how feeble to hold on to. This game just kept taking any slender thread away. No Buy.

The Demo is an intro to the game. There is not as much game info in the demo as in the written game description. Warning: The opening sequence is disturbing. You walk toward home from your school bus stop and see your family home blazing away. You attempt to rescue your family inside unsuccessfully, while engaging in game puzzles. And the point was....? Years later you (presumably the girl from the fire) do find out there are some children missing, but not the twelve in the game description. You do try to talk to a small boy brought to you by the sheriff. (I am still confused as to why the local sheriff would be delivering a child who drew pictures on his homework to a psychologist's office.) After you finally have a short talk with the boy, he walks out of your office and you go home. (Luckily the game description suggests a reasonable explanation. You must work in the orphanage and this boy must be from there as were some of the missing children. Hopefully he left your office to go to his room/dorm.) Anyway you go home by way of a snarling dog, fall asleep and enter that same dream that had been described to you. And the "fun" begins. The HOPs and mini-games are OK, although some of the mini-game instructions are unclear. The game-play is fairly ordinary and the story is sketchy at best - but at least you have that game description. If I got this game, I'd do so for my grandkids - the level of challenge is their speed, but I could not buy the game for them due to that opening sequence. Once again, I can't recommend what I won't purchase myself. Check out the demo and decide for yourself.

When you married your husband, your union brought peace to two warring kingdoms. You are horrified to suddenly find him turning to crystal before your eyes. You rush off to get a magic scepter from your aunt that should cure him as quickly as he was sickened. Of course this will be an epic adventure and no where near as easy as you'd like it to be. We know there is evil afoot, but there is just enough story to reel you into this tale of kingdoms and magic. The characters are well drawn as are the backgrounds. The mini games are good, the HOPs varied, and the collectibles often almost impossible to find. I own several of the Nevertales games and have enjoyed playing them. This looks to be the best one in the series so far. Finally a series with an improved game. Hurrah! Play the demo for a good solid gaming experience. There won't be anything earth shatteringly new, but you will have a good game. Take a look and enjoy.
