Although this is a well executed game, I have had better from Blam. It is an extremely easy game. So much so that I completely forgot to check out the SG. I just never got lost or stuck. The graphics are easy on the eye in wide screen. There is a very good jump map with pictures and location names. It plays like a well oiled machine. There are a lot of iHOS, but they are quick and easy. The puzzles are simple, some new, some old. The story is straightforward - young women are being kidnapped in Paris - it is the "why" part that is the crux of the matter and that only gets revealed later. It is basically a tale of grief, anger and the desire for revenge, which when given free reign, defeat the object of the villain's purpose. I felt rather sorry for him in the end actually.
You get a exilir box and a collection bottle early on and you have to find and collect different scents and smells in the bottle. These go into the box and once you find a recipe you have to created various potions for use on items throughout the game. There are collectibles and achievements. Hint and skip are super fast in easy mode. Once finished in Paris, you get to move on to Grasse. There is a high level of enjoyment in playing this game, unless you are someone who really requires big challenges and much to-ing and fro-ing and does not like a lot of iHOS. Then you will not like this.
In advanced mode there are no sparkles and hint and skip take quite a long time to charge. In hardcore mode, no sparkles, no hint button and no skip button.
The main game will end satisfyingly enough. But that is only 75% of the task. In the BC you go to London to continue and complete your detective work.
I took 4.30 hrs for the main game and 1.45 hrs for the BC.
When we wake from what feels like a long dream, we sit and remember how strange it all was and all the people we met and all the thing we did, and we have a sense of the weird and wonderful. That is how the word "surreal" originated. This game is just like that. Beautifully done, with wonderful graphics and music. The Sandman is indeed a sinister and disturbing entity. I lost count of all the different locations and landscapes I visited and all amazing things I saw. Your helper is a gremlin called Benny, who is equally weird but sweet and harmless.
At first the graphics seem too dark, the sounds are too loud and I wondered doubtfully whether it would be any good. But that all changed very soon. It became lighter and quite fast paced.
There are achievements and collectibles but no map or wide screen so I do not know if this was originally a CE, but if it was, for some reason BF rejected it and only bought the SE. The hint and skip are fast. Half the puzzles are easy and half are hard. I only came across a few new ones. But it is the way it is made and the atmosphere that is the big draw with this one. It is a Puzzle Adventure, so no HOS. I ceased to notice quite early on, the game is so gripping. The hint button is directional, although it is fairly easy to understand where to go next and what to do. Still, I did need a few tips now and again. There are no sparkles, just cursor changes for various different interactions. It is very well made, with instant navigation and no glitches. The cut scenes and voice overs are excellent and there is a lot of animation from the characters in the cut scenes, which I instantly picked up on as it is most unusual. They perform actions and activities, which I have not seen before. As well as the collectibles, you have to find pieces of a dreamcatcher to defeat the Sandman at the end.
It took me 4 hrs and I really, REALLY enjoyed it. I do not know who these Devs are. The little green dragon people distributed it but did not make it and I think they made an excellent choice and this game is a credit to them.
Aww, shame - will somebody please give Martha some sausages. The whole game that''s all she asked for. I did not like Jake, always making mean remarks to her, the knucklehead.
Cute, silly, delightful, easy, funny, cartoony and fun. Something wrong with the sound. Like old old vinyl with one too many scratches.
Yes, devs, I liked your game. Mainly because of it having no timer. But also because it was sweet. Largely, however, because....there...is...no...CE...again...this...Sunday! There is no Rehab Centre around where I live and I have withdrawal symptoms! I needed a stopgap and this served.
Poor devs. If they make a sequel using the same format as the prequel, they get "Same old same old." If they make it with a different format, it's "Oh, no, they've changed it." Can't catch a break. All the Azada games are different from each other anyway, so I don't understand which one this should be the same as. I played it as a stand-alone and judge it on it's own merits, which are considerable. ERS is to be commended for all that they are put into this excellent game, and not many are acknowledging that. Not so long ago, we got a 4 hr standard main game and a 1 hr BC. In their last game they included collectibles for the first time. In this one, they have included everything anyone could ever ask for, again for the first time. These are not being appreciated so I am going to list them:-
You get a special pet, which you can design yourself, from a whole gamut of different creatures parts. It is not a helper, but an addition. It speaks animalese so it is translated for you. This pet will appear randomly in-game and speak one simple sentence which you simply click on to end it. I cannot see these seconds long speeches as anything negative. You collect coins throughout the game to buy clothes for it because it is feeling the cold, of which there are many unique styles and colours. It should be noted that you do not HAVE to do this if you don't want to. You can just ignore it.
There is a special book and when you encounter an exotic animal it goes into that book, with a some info about it on the other page. Again, you do not have to take any notice of this.
There are amulet parts to collect, which go into the holder next to the inventory. Once you have found them all they are used to break the spells cast by Panoptes.
You carry a magic potion with you that lights up when you have to use it and reveals hidden areas for puzzles and items.
There is a very good jump map which shows different areas in picture form, such as completed, objectives, undiscovered and incomplete and also lists the tasks that need to be done in each area.
The majority of the puzzles have a much higher level of challenge to them and are beautifully designed and great fun.
The main game is 5.30 hrs long and the BC 1.30 hrs. Another big step up from the old 4 and 1 hr lengths.
These are all things that ERS has NEVER given us before and I can imagine their disappointment when the majority of what they are getting is criticism. I appreciated these immensely and am very grateful to them for listening to us and putting so much into this excellent game. It is a far cry from their old fare.
The cut scenes are perfectly done and the voice-overs are flawless. There are not too many and not too long and all are clickable. Much as I love Elephant Games, they cannot do graphics like ERS. I put them at the top of the list for exquisite artwork. The iHOS are very good and there are just the right amount. Another aspect ERS always gets right. The story is good and well told and the music is much better - no dirges or funeral marches. The mechanics are spot on. This game veers away from the very simple and takes on a much more integrated and immersive slant, so the SG is necessary and it is very well put together. There are no demons or occult dimensions. It is a fantasy. The hint/skip buttons are super quick. If you are an arachnaphobe, there are a couple of rather hairy spiders to contend with, but only a couple.
Two minor points for improvement:- When you open the map and click a location it asks you if you are sure you want to go there. I found this unnecessary and could not see the point. The other is the very dark red on dark green in the iHOS for the list items. Difficult to see. Most devs use white and yellow for this. Much easier to read.
So, here we have a 7 hr game with all the bells and whistles, which I for one had given up expecting from ERS, and a jolly fine job they made of it all round. Thanks ERS, very much, for hearing us. You really put your all into this and it shows. Your game is terrific and I highly recommend it.
After waiting 4.30 hrs for this to download, I finished it in 2 hrs. Needless to say I am somewhat peeved. It did not cost me anything or I would be more than just peeved. 2 hrs is really poor.
This game is pure simplicity itself. I could have used a WT for Strangestone more than a few times, but for this, it is completely superfluous. The puzzles are child's play. The HOS are clear and easy. The graphics are not great but perfectly acceptable. The story is very straightforward. The cut scenes are well done and quick. Navigation is perfect. No map or diary, but equally as unnecessary as the WT. Music is fine.
Why do so many devs think that everyone can play chess? It mystifies me when they include a chess game and expect everyone to achieve the object by solving the chess problem. There is nothing new here and definitely no wow factors. The tree child was a nice touch, but otherwise, a pretty bland and childish game.
If you have a pcc that needs to be used pretty quick, you can have a pleasant enough couple of hours, but as to laying out cash for this, forget about it.
Sorry devs. If this is your first effort, you made the game very well, without lagging or glitches, but it is too short and ridiculously easy.
One of the best games to come out of ERS, ever. The fun factor is huge and I just loved playing it. For once, there is not a trace of the occult or the supernatural. It is a straight murder mystery with a really good plot and a great twist in the end. Unfortunately you have to play the BC to get to it. SE players will have an abrupt ending. THANK YOU ERS. Your story is such a refreshing change.
There are coins to collect for 3 different shops. Fans to collect to boost the hint button so you do not have to wait for it to recharge. You have the cutest companion, a bat-eared fox. He does not go into your inventory, but accompanies you on-screen and he is just adorable. There is a cute puppy, a beautiful horse, a chubby squirrel and a hungry owl. Also a cuddly hamster in one iHOS.
The graphics are beautiful and the mechanics are flawless. As well as the usual extras, you can replay the mini games and iHOS and there is a quiz on the game where you win prizes. Well, in theory you do. Obviously you cannot literally win anything.
The cut scenes are quick and the graphics in them, especially the faces, are so well done they look real. Dialogue is clickable and there is not much of it to distract, for those who dislike a lot of talking. You are accompanied by an assistant, but really he does not do much assisting. Still, he was fairly interesting. As always the puzzles are not very challenging. The iHOS are beautifully done, list as well as silhouette - the find something to use on something to get something type. There is a great game called sucker darts in the first shop that I really enjoyed.
So, no wide screen, map or achievements and yes, it is an easy game. But it is so entertaining and the hint button is very helpful that a map is unnecessary, lack of wide screen I cease to notice and achievements, well I never earn them all anyway.
An admirable game that I will replay for sure, and not in the too distant future either. Very well done.
A really nice little iHOPA that is straightforward and relaxed, which plays at a good steady pace. Even though there are a lot of HOS, I did not mind them because of the good graphics, it being a very well made game and most of all because of the story, which is really mysterious and intriguing. I just had to buy it to find out what was going on. Even when I did catch on, it still was not what I thought and had a really surprising twist in it's tale.
No map, no problem, not necessary. iHOS clear and sharp. Fast hint/skip. No new or remarkable puzzles and not very many. Hint button directional. Good music, cut scenes and voice overs.
Not a challenging game at all but I really enjoyed playing it very much. It took me 3.30 hrs and I consider these devs came up with a really solid game that played perfectly.
There are four different stories in this game, in four different locations. These are accessed through portals and I thought it a nice inclusion. The cut scenes did not play well. The dialogue was out of sync with the text. The music was good, eerie and sometimes sinister. Good for atmosphere. The mechanics were slow and clumsy.
The main game took me 5.30 hours, which is really long and the BC 2 hours. So, you are definitely getting a long game. While this is a good thing, the game itself is not riveting. The main game ends conclusively.
There are morphying/beyond objects to find, if you can be bothered or can remember. I liked the stone hearts in the tree aspect. The wide screen graphics are excellent. There is a great jump map. The hint button is directional and quick, as is skip.
The iHOS are cluttered and the puzzles are all old and rather dull.
I think they could have done a lot better with this. It has so much going for it and the potential to make it go wow is definitely there, but it was rather humdrum. Nothing about the game play was particularly exciting or interesting
It is good, but there are much, much better games on offer, so I was somewhat disappointed.
When the first game play scene opened up the graphics looked too busy and slightly out of focus. I love bold vibrant colours, the more the merrier. But something looked off. I do think the graphics are beautiful, yet somehow they jarred.
The music is superb in this game. The mechanics are flawless and the game just flows perfectly. The voice overs are excellent. Likewise the cut scenes and the dialogue is quick and clickable. There is a perfectly adequate SG, but the game is extremely easy. There is no level of challenge at all in the puzzles. Hint is directional and there is a jump map for more localised activity.
This is a Fairy Tale which is well written and well told. However, usually in these stories the protagonist has the task of saving and rescuing. Not so here. Yes, I got to save and rescue. Three times. And then...... they all died! I also had to cause a herd of beautiful horses to sicken and die. This is not pleasing, not fun, and a real downer. My intellect tells me this is silly, it is just a game, but that did not stop my heart from reacting. Overly sensitive? Maybe. I still found it cruel and sad.
I do not mind FROGS, but with this game they became a dreaded chore. There are way, way too many and they follow hot on the heels of each other, without respite. The majority of the fragments are findable, but there are always in every one, pieces no one will ever find without the hint button. Even when pointed out, some do not resemble their pictures.
The main game only took me 3.30 hrs, but the BC is 1.30 hrs so you do get a 5 hr game for the CE price. The main game has a satisfactory ending, but I rather enjoyed the additional content of the BC and the furtherance of the story, as well as all the new locations.
It is a nice game, but it did not enchant or inspire me as it should have and I am left with a sense that they tried too hard to instill it with adult content and got carried away. That spoiled it for me. These games for me are about enjoyment and fun and getting engrossed, not sorrow.
Although this game is distributed by the A Team, it is not their work. It is unfortunate that we are not permitted to name the Devs because they deserve acknowledgement and praise for this marvelous game. They also made Twisted Lands: Origin and The Gift. Before playing this game, make sure your socks are tied on because you will lose them and they will never be seen again.
It starts out just like any standard iHOPA, in a house, which is where the demo is spent. The graphics are excellent and wide screen and I bought it for that, the quirky story and the perfect navigation. Then, I got out the back gate and into the town and the game took on a whole different dynamic. I started meeting the ghosts. A 1920's Flapper. A detective from around 1950. A Marine from the 1960s. A Flower Child from 1970. A guitar player who very much reminded me of Elvis, and fat business man with a bad temper. It is this overlapping of the decades that creates the atmosphere in this game. That and the massive scale of the locations, especially the Warehouse, which is just mind boggling. It is a wonderful atmosphere, something I rarely come across in these games and it kept me totally intrigued and engrossed. Like old Diners, those old Jukeboxes (this one plays music to die for) old trains, junkyards and scrap yards, to name a few? Hold on to your hat. All of them beautifully depicted and imbued with a sense of realism. The only thing they got wrong was the trunk and the engine in the VW, which they put the wrong way round. The story is slightly ludicrous if taken out of context, but then aren't most of them? But with this game it totally works and I thought it greatly creative and fun.
The puzzles are all doable, logical and fun and only a very few old ones. The iHOS are clear sharp and colourful and the game is not overloaded with them. The music is great, as are the cut scenes and the voice overs and there is humour galore from all the fascinating characters.
You receive a vessel with 13 slots and along the way you earn the orbs that fit into them, for a thrilling and wonderfully enacted finale. The hint button is directional, though this game is so absorbing that I seemed to take everything in and remember it, for the most part.
It took me 4.30 hrs and I had the best time in ages. Thanks to these clever and talented Devs, and keep them coming. We do not see enough of you guys.
