(Based on playing the SE)
I initially liked this game a lot, but as I got deeper into the game it became quite confusing as to what to do next. I have the SE, so no Strategy Guide available, however there is a pretty good jump map. Yes, a lot of back & forth, although using the jump map made it tolerable. Even with that though, it wasn't always logical or obvious (to me), what to do once you got to the location. Some of the puzzles/HOs were very easy, and some downright frustrating, as to figuring out how to find/get/do the next thing.
What I did like were the wonderful artwork, the music, and some very interesting characters. VOs varied a lot, from annoying (forgot whose) to kinda sexy (the storyteller).
The storyline: while the ultimate focus was to find and unite the two stolen doves for the good of the kingdom, (and to stop the evil sorcerer from doing it first, to the detriment of the kingdom), the journey to do so was convoluted, and sometimes confusing...."I have to do...WHAT?". Like a couple people mentioned re: getting rid of different cobwebs, one in a logical manner and one, not at all.
The game is a decent length, about 6 hours or so for me, but I do take my time in these games as I like to appreciate the artwork, the characters, and the storyline. There is also some fun stuff in here, like a VERY hungry blue baby Toucan that reappears from time to time (that helps you with certain tasks), a Pixie that is your occasional helper (you have to periodically find magical energy balls to "feed" her power), and another Pixie with bow & arrow that is your HINT button. I
Basically, overall I rather liked this game, although there were some annoyances, and confusion, which is why I rated it lower.
I recommend this game!

You are flying through space, when your rust-bucket of a spaceship gets forcefully yanked towards a planet, where it crash lands. Then you have to (tediously) fix every stupid thing inside, before you can even open the door to go outside where, apparently, you and the rest of the crew have no problems breathing (what luck!).
The (junk-pile style) HOGs: very difficult to see most of the items (I have a headache just thinking about them), because of the small size and muddy coloration. AND many items are called very different names than what I know them by (the difference between British English ? and American English?) You definitely get to work on your vocabulary skills; not always a bad thing, just distracting in this type of game. (Oh great; now I sound like a snob, and a whiner, lol. I'm not either...*rolling my eyes now, lol.)
This game was just annoying to me. Things like the Menu button being a tiny house icon, that I could barely see. Muddy graphics that seem very grainy and dated. (I felt like I was stumbling through this game half blind, with tiny and/or very difficult to see items. Hmm, maybe I need glasses...o wait; I'm wearing glasses. Snarky? who me?).
Plus having to do tasks like unscrew each and every screw on something, which is a time-waster and tells me the devs were looking for ways to stretch the game-play, in a too-short game. Puzzles were either very easy (ie. rotate the rings to make a picture), or confusing as to what to do. Your "diary" is a Palm Pilot. No map. No music. No voice-overs; the dialogue just appeared in a box at the bottom of the screen. There were some (repetitive) ambient sounds. Very hard to see the changes (tiny gears) on the cursor when there was something to fix/put together. Story-line could have been decent, but instead it ended up boring me out of my skull, (and usually I'm a huge sci-fi fan)! This one's an EPIC FAIL for me.
Oh, yeah, you can keep that giant spider....(arachnophobia?) ...RUN!
(based on the demo: and btw, to those who complain about players who review demos instead of the whole game...there are some games that are SO bad, why on Earth would you ever buy it to begin with? That's, thankfully, why there are demos. 'Nuff said.)
I don't recommend this game.

Based on playing demo all the way through, (and was bummed when it ended). I really was lured right into this frozen world, between the gorgeous art, the mysterious & creepy storyline, the realistic voice-overs, music and ambient sounds.
I loved the first Dire Grove, and this is a wonderful sequel! Thanks to the devs for taking extra time to make this a great game; you guys ROCK!
I won't go into great detail, as several other reviews have more than competently handled those, however, I will add a few comments here:
Contrary to what someone said, there IS a map, a jump map that looks like a briefcase, on the lower left-hand side of the screen. And I loved the 3-D "tiny-town" quality of it, as well as the little colored flags showing locations of tasks, plus whether they had been completed or not.
There are also a few morphing objects, little buildings (the ones I found anyway), but they are elusive and don't always show up the first time you enter a scene; sometimes you have have to revisit a scene after you have completed another task, and only then do they show up.
Liked the fact that you can choose your detective's gender.
I also liked the Investigative Journal (top right side, slides out), because as you solve puzzles, find objects, etc, pieces of information in various forms, get added to your Journal, and when you get enough pieces, you can click the "Deduction" button, and the various sections sort of interact in a section called, "What Happened in Dire Grove?", and the various story-lines start to come together. There are Dictaphone messages, torn pages from Samuel's Journal, weather forecasts, strange animal sightings & behavior....and let's not forget about the Druids, the mysterious Mystwalkers (Mistwalkers? sp?; short-term memory is TOO short, lol; I usually take notes, but forgot this one).
Puzzles, mini-games, etc. were all quite interesting and fun, some much more challenging than others, but all interesting. Loved the game-within-the-game aspects, the layering of mini-games inside other games.
There are Collections (various birds is one), Achievements, and an alternate story ending (can't wait to see this!), and lots of other goodies. (read the other reviews for more details)
The only disappointment, from my viewpoint, is that they haven't used live actors in the cut scenes, which was always a fun part of many of the other MCF games, and the first Dire Grove game (however, that's not enough for me to deduct any points).
Great job, devs; all the things I love in these games and nothing I don't...(well, except for the lack of live actors in the cut scenes, but hey)....I was hooked from the beginning, and can't wait to play more!
A definite buy for me!
I recommend this game!

.....Blue Tea, that is, lol. Loved this new entry into the Dark Parables series! I played the DEMO all the way through and this will be definite purchase for me. I am a huge fan of this series anyway, and have most of the rest of the games.
Despite what some of the other reviewers have said, I think the collaboration between Blue Tea Games & Eipix worked out beautifully. (of course it's all subjective, and what makes one person deliriously happy....ok, I'll settle for pleasantly pleased, lol.....just frustrates or annoys the teeth out of someone else)
The artwork is gorgeously intricate, ornate, colorfully jewel-toned & fabulous! The voice-overs seemed to fit the game in a manner that was not annoying....you know like how some of them can get on your last nerve, with voices that just don't fit the characters, or tones that are grating, whiny, silly or the accents sound very fake, but these seemed to fit right in. Intriguing story-line; the premise hooked me right from the beginning, with promise of fabulous tales involving mermaids, sea monsters, and an ancient, oceanic city. It was fun to see the tie-ins with other Dark Parables games, too. Music was nice and sound effects were great.
I won't go into all the details, as others have covered them nicely, but I will say that the one really disappointing aspect of this game was lack of morphing objects (always a fun part of these games for me). I didn't take a point off for that, but HEY devs, so many of us love these, that to leave them out, especially in the CE, is a real bummer.
Oh yeah, I also like FROGS-type puzzles, and they were plentiful in here. There were other puzzles and HOGS in here, too, that were fun; some easier and some more challenging. I dislike it when the puzzles are so difficult that either you can't figure out how to do it, and you're left sitting there scratching your head, or you just can't accomplish the task, and who needs that kind of frustration? (Not me!)
I play for entertainment and relaxation, and strategy, so the storyline and the graphics need to be really good, and the puzzles, etc, something to have fun with and hold my interest; not make you want to yank your hair out in frustration! This game was a perfect blend of all the things I like in a good game....except the lack of morphing objects. Still this is a definite purchase for me!
I recommend this game!

Unfortunately for me, I didn't read any of the reviews before buying this game! (which was in 2011, so maybe there is a "bug fix" since then, I don't know) I did play the demo all the way through and based on that, the game looked and sounded interesting. Once I got into the full version however, the game-play went downhill from there. What was so frustrating is that I would get stuck somewhere, and not be able to figure out where to go or what to do next. Not just once; repeatedly. I couldn't even finish the game, and I play a LOT of these games! HINTS were NOT helpful, just annoying, because they didn't give any real help. Like others have mentioned, they would tell you to do what you were already trying to do, but not succeeding. I'm not into "hand-holding", but jeez, when a game gets so frustrating that you just want to chuck your whole pc right out the window, it's pretty much a deal-breaker. Epic fail! I wouldn't even waste a free coupon on this piece of trash....seriously.
I don't recommend this game.

Hiya ~ Finished the demo with 17 min. left to spare. While I appreciate the artwork, the characters were quite well drawn/painted, I will agree with another reviewer in that it looks like it's been sitting on a back shelf awhile. I tried to like it, I really did, because I am a BIG fan of adventure games, but the quality of the storyline and game-play was SO boring that I found myself yawning throughout the game.....snooze-fest.
I DID like the little Jack Russell Terrier that is your helper, he was cute, and I'm one of those players that happens to like animal helpers, if done well. However, the puzzles weren't always clear as to what it was you had to do to solve them, the HOPs were very easy, the voice-overs quite annoying, and the character developmental and story-line were something a 9-year old child might write (and maybe that's doing a disservice to some 9-year olds, lol). Same old lame "things that jump at your face" monsters, some harpy-type things. It really seemed to me a game from the past, as the story was not well thought out, just a mish-mash of every other lame game you might have played 10 years ago.
Jeez, guys, in this day and age when there are entertaining games with awesome graphics, fun game-play, wonderful music, voice-overs and sound effects, not to mention much more challenging puzzles, and FAR more creative story-lines, please give us games that are INTERESTING and well-done. (The first few Haunted Legends games, and the Mystery Case Files games, come to mind, as these are some of my faves)
This game belongs in the dust-bin, with the rest of the trash.
I don't recommend this game.

I loved this game - I loved the Alchemy; an unusual twist to this game is making your own scent-potions, gathered from various "fragrant" locations. These are then used in various other locations, to further your investigation into what now appear to be serial killings of young women in Paris, and all during the time of a cholera epidemic as well! Who can you trust? Who is playing a deceitful cat & mouse game with you? Will you fall victim to the odious scent-bombs, flung at you from the hand of a cloaked & masked stalker? And WHY; why are these women being killed? It's up to you, the detective, to figure it all out and stop him or her, before more young women become the next victims of this lunatic!
It reminds me of playing in a rousing good Agatha Christie murder-mystery, without it's being bloody & gory (which I dislike), as so many games these days seem to be.
Kudos to the devs; this was an excellent game, with beautiful music, lovely, detailed graphics/art, wonderful animation in the cut-scenes, and an intriguing story-line. I bought the SE, after the demo was over, and liked it so much that now I want to get the CE. I also like to take my time playing, enjoying the story and absorbing all the beautiful details of the game, so this took me about 8 hours, played over two days. This is my favorite game this year (so far)! Enjoy!
I recommend this game!
