This was a solid fun game. The puzzles were not tedious or difficult, but never got boring either. There was a good amount of variety and I never had to play the same HO scene twice. The story was creepy with a couple shadows that made me jump once in a while. The map was interactive and let you know where your next task was and allowed you to jump there immediately. I finished the whole game in one sitting because it was addictive, fun, and also a bit short. The story was fine, nothing extravagant.
I suppose I should have picked up the SE rather than the CE on this one. I LOVE collectables and in reading other reviews, it looked like there were plenty to find. I must have gotten confused, because there were only one main type of collectibles to find and it was impossible to miss them. This was zero challenge. There were also about 8 character figures to collect, but they were even more impossible to miss. The achievements were very basic and not really worth looking at. I never used the hint button or the strategy guide even once, and the bonus chapter was incredibly short.
The only other thing that bothered me with this game involves a few editing problems that seemed a little sloppy to me. Phrases on screen stating things like, "Something is something on the ground, use something..." Or mini games that instruct you to bring all the red pegs to the left and green pegs to the right, when in reality you need to do the opposite. Just one more final edit may have been needed....
In conclusion, this is a short, creepy, fun game, with a variety of puzzles. I would recommend this purchase, but ONLY for the SE game.
I recommend this game!

This game has everything I am looking for in an HOG. Lush, beautiful landscapes with highly detailed imagery. Fantastic story line that sends you on an adventure to explore wherever each portal may take you. There are character interactions through mini scenes that are well done and help to bring more excitement to the story. Trust No one! Who is the betrayer? What will happen if you don't find all of the seals?
The puzzles and HOS were different than most than most games. They are not too hard and I never needed to skip, and they were FUN. Even the slight differences in HOS, like finding the pair for the item on the list or finding where the picture on the list should be placed in the scene, were a welcome variance. Different is good! There were not too many HOS, which can be a huge turn off to me when simply going from one HOS to the next.
There are 2 levels to play, the higher level not indicating active zones. There are 15 letters from your grandfather hidden throughout the game that give you more insight to the story line. The map is interactive as it always shows you where an action is available, and allows you to fast travel. With this map feature, I found that I never needed a hint.
If you are an experienced HOG player, looking for something a little different, but fun, with an involving story line, then I fully believe you will love this game. Try it out!
I recommend this game!

The description of this game sounded interesting and the story was good, but the game was a bit simple and boring. I only finished it at all b/c it was relatively short. I like games with lots of exploring, walking from scene to scene, trying to figure out what to do next. This was NOT that type of game. It was basically scene after scene of HOS and other simple puzzles/ I never needed a hint or even directions for how to complete a puzzle. The HOS did have some small variations to mix it up a little, but not enough.
Unfortunately, i would not recommend this game - unless you are looking for only puzzles and no walking around and exploring/ collecting items.
I don't recommend this game.

This game is just like the others in this series - same story, different places. I like the Haunted Halls games, but it was not my favorite of the 3. I kind of felt like i just wanted to get through it. It was not scary, just odd. The graphics were good, and there was just the right amount of HOS. The HOS were well designed and kept me entertained. There were a few other puzzles sprinkled throughout the game. The game feels systematic as progress is made; the player is aware how much is left to do to complete the whole game at all times.
I purchased the CE as i really enjoyed previous Dr. Blackmore games. I only consulted the SG twice and both times it was something silly like i was trying to place the item only a couple inches off from where it needed to be to get the right response. I am glad that i bought CE version though, b/c the final/ bonus chapter offered a much better ending than the SE of the game.
Overall, i enjoyed this game. I would recommend it. Good fun.
I recommend this game!

I bought this game b/c it looked very creepy! I have no regrets here. The atmosphere, the music, the story line - it is super scary. Scarier than most! However, there are WAY too many HOS for my tastes. Every scene seems to have a HOS and then another one when i return to that scene later in the game! There are not any other mini games. You do find some equipment from the environment, but mostly from HOS. After playing this game - i am in the mood for a couple puzzle games that don't have any HOS as i am completly burnt out on them! If you can handle this or if you really love HOS back to back, then you will absolutely love this as another creepy HOS game! I do recommend, but be aware of this factor. With all the great alternatives, i am not sure i would have bought this game if i had known this first. It is well made and kept my attention most of the time.
I recommend this game!

Mystery, suspense, chills...you want it? This game has it! This is different than most of the creepy thriller games i play, but it is a welcome change. I haven't finished it yet, but i bet i will tonight! There is a huge territory to cover and explore, filled with puzzles, items to discover, mysteries to solve, and some fun HO scenes in the mix. There is a lot of moving back and forth over long distances, but the map system is Excellent! If you look at the map, it will tell you exactly which rooms have an available action and you can easily fast-travel there by clicking the room you want to go to. Since the SE has this very user friendly map, the hint button, and the journal, i really don't see any NEED for the CE. I have the SE. I love it. This game is a lot of fun!
I recommend this game!

This was FUN, scary, and different than many games in that there were not any HOS. There were tons of mini games that were new and fun to solve. My only complaint was that the mini games were short. Since most were new to me, i wanted to play more of them. Instead, just one short game and done. They were difficult enough to keep me engaged, but easy enough that i didnt need to skip any or seek help. I never got stuck enough to seek the strategy guide. I am not sure about the in game hint system. Several times i pressed the hint button and was told that there was nothing to do there at that time, only to find that my next move was available there! Hmmm. I played the bonus chapter and it was okay, but honestly this is not a game where i feel greatful that i bought the CE. I imagine you could get by just fine with the SE on this one. I highly recommend this game if you like creepy adventures! Enjoy!

If you like spooky puzzle games, then this is for you! I loved this game. I even shouted out at the computer several times in startling suprise! I got completely wrapped up in the game and couldn't stop playing until i either fell asleep from exhaustion or beat the game!
There are 3 different options for dificulty level. This game does not contain any HOS that i remeber. It is all about exploring and finding useful items, solving puzzles that were new, fun, and challenging, and interacting with the environment. Some of the puzzles were quite difficult. I loved the variety!
I love spooky or even scary games so this was right up my alley. The hint system was perfect - i never had to close out of the game to consult a walkthrough. As far as getting through the game, the CE strategy guide was not needed. I am so glad that i found and played this game, I hope to find more like this one! Enjoy!
I recommend this game!

This game has a good story line, but it was so challenging that i often felt like pulling my hair out! I had to use a walkthrough and constantly close the game down, pull up the walkthrough, close the walkthrough, pull back up the game....over and over and over. Sometimes there were subtle hints to pick up on and sometimes the next step was completely impossible to figure out without help. This game would have been more tolerable if there was a better in game hint system available. The game was scary - which is the only thing it really has going for it.
I don't recommend this game.

I love games that are under the sea! The sceenery is colorful and the graphics look exceptional. Your character needs to talk to the other characters in the game to get hints and find out where to go next. There is a lot of backtracking and wandering around but the game has directional hints available to aid you if needed. This game was so much fun and i really enjoyed it!
