Hurray for a new series. Yea, it is full of real people; tired of those half human half "special powers". The buzzing bee only signals and reminds you of ALL the back and forth you will be doing. The variety of puzzles is nice, but sometimes the directions were so absent you just skipped instead of try to figure out. The Map was what I liked least as IT only reminded me of all the buzzing around I was doing. Make a bee line for the SE where you won't lose as much if you don't like it.
I recommend this game!

I rarely write reviews. So many do a wonderful job. This particular game, another great one in the whole MCF series, was exception even for me. The HOP's were unique and scenes not repeated, the puzzles were also special and different from our mystery genre norm. It was of great length and storyline kept your interest throughout. Phinneas has gone to great 'pains' to keep souls working for him aboard his ship, and keeps us just out of reach of recovering the crown. I enjoyed this game very much. CE has multiple collectibles, not too hard to find, a great map, clear and logical progression of plot. I am glad that I have this to replay while waiting for the next great MCF. Happy fishing!
I recommend this game!

Don't usually submit reviews, but this one really had me in all areas. I am a fan of the mystery genre stories and this one is great. The artwork and visuals are beautiful. The puzzles and HOP's are nicely dispersed throughout. It doesn't detract from the story, doesn't bog you down with too many run here, run there's. The map, always a good and helpful feature is clear to understand.
the forensic kit is used often and this developer has included great instructions for the tests. For me, the directions for puzzles must be precise or I find myself just skipping. All this was done so well in this game.
Haven't played the bonus game yet, but I know it too will still have the same quality and fun factor I enjoyed throughout this whole game. Go "find" out for yourself!
I recommend this game!

I really enjoyed Dead Link: Torn Pages. Good job new developer Phime! Characters well defined, instructions for HOPS and games done well. The story was not boring, nor was there excess to-and-fro-ing to get: knives, rope, hooks, etc. Usually used soon in the game. I felt it was a little short took me 3 hours. Glad to see no dragons, vampires, paranormal activity, just a nice who-done-it. Thanks BFG for bringing this to us!
I recommend this game!

I'm more a player than a writer, but this game was great! I love CE versions, but not excited about all the collectible/morphing stuff that goes with those. So when an SE comes along that still has lengthy play, storyline that has staying power throughout the game, a healthy mix of HOP's and puzzles; I gotta stop and thank these wonderful developers and encourage fishers who play like me to give this a try!
I have purchased other DARK CANVAS games and enjoyed them, but this one really stood out. There is a lot to do from the start, a transportable map (a must for me!) and well detailed scenes that do not have you hunting about for a plethora of tiny items. If you play on any mode other than "lights out" "don't tell me nothing" there are sparkles and dialogue to help you think out where or what you should try to do. Another great plus is the simple but clear directions on the puzzles. In more recent games, they show up and if you click too fast they are gone and create a distraction trying to pull them back up if you didn't quite get it the first time.
The color in the scenes are varied some slightly dark, but visible...after all, it is raining the whole time you're there; and the music is just what you'd like to have playing if you're inside on a dreary afternoon.
The puzzles are not unlike you play in other games, I had seen most before, sliders, jigsaw, align insects by color in rows, play dominoes, find/match shapes on and others. I liked how simple it was to follow the recipe and make soup.
You get to take pictures that stay in an album and those clues are very usable throughout the game...necessary even! Along the way a little history is revealed about the Whittles. their secrets and lineage.
Many other BFGers have really outlined more in these reviews; I really just want to encourage those that are not hyped up on the CE version extras that this is a SE that is so pleasant and well done for the price. Give it a try and enjoy your next rainy afternoon at the 'manor'!

Never been to Baton Rouge but I feel like I just visited! Great characters, with wonderful voices, music that soothes the soul as you solve rather cruel murders.
You get good transporter maps, lots of unique HOP's and sort of simple puzzles...guess that's so it doesn't take away from a very good storyline!
Ella's fiancé has been kidnapped, but not before one of his "Four Rascals" jazz band members turns up dead.
You get to help follow clues whether its helping the morgue to determine the poison #collecting evidence# or trailing "the Duke", who jumps out several times to kill ya.
This developer has done an excellent job of mixing great puzzles, nothing we haven't seen before, with well spaced HOP's and brief dialogue and action that moves you along in the story rather quickly! Still took several hours to play.
I'm not real big on Collector extras, but collectibles were not too hard to spot scene to scene and morphing objects hidden well within scenes. Used the strategy guide once or twice because, despite puzzle directions #placing lamps in a certain rotation pattern# it wasn't clear what to do. Bonus chapter was short but fun and not really an extension of the original story. I bought the CE and I would clearly try another games from this developer and in this series. Worth the download, guys!
I recommend this game!

A really marvelous game! These developers brought another overall good game to us. The graphics are beautiful, enjoy a scooter, gondola and speed boat ride to music that is peaceful, relaxing and for the most part non-repetative. As a journalist, in the beautiful surroundings of Venice, you are asked to find the fox, Volpe. The dialogue is short and helpful, guides you along. The HOS are interact and not the usual dark, junk piles...nothing too hard to find. The puzzles are more unique than most I've played. I bought the CE, rarity for me, as I don't usually go after the bells and whistles associated, but the whole journey is well worth the CE cost.
I love a good transporter map; and this has that as well as a diary, objectives and a rechargeable hint/fox! To me, the feature I liked best was the handy "strategy guide" right in the game to click on. Sometimes, (and this is a good thing), it took me forever to think about where I needed to go.
You should not only try this Off the Record, but the previous game as well. Epix aims (high) to please gamers and they have hit the mark with another great one. Ciao!
I recommend this game!

What a thoroughly entertaining game! Played it all in about 3 days! Great scenery and well-drawn HOS's! Plenty of cute and original mini-puzzles. Seems like there are a lot of things to find, but you use some in the HOP. The map is good for getting around, layout is easy to figure out.
It is a well written and well developed story, although like other commenters here, ends a little abruptly. Elf, your companion is also cute and helpful! If you are after a game that gets you thinking and makes you use logic, this is one for your collection. I will play it again and deighfully enjoy the visit back to Black Isle!
I recommend this game!

This game so filled the bill for being entertaining, good length of story, diverse puzzles and HO scenes that the first thing I wanted to do while the credits rolled was go find and download the sequel! (Mists of Ravenwood!)
You wake up not quite remembering where you are, the car shows you were in an accident. You decide to make your way to the motel and from there you are led finding bits and clues to why you came to be in Maple Creek.
There is a map and a good evidence board accessed from the lower right corner of the screen. The character voices are good and not over dramatic...especially the suspicious "preacher" who you need to find to explain so many details!
You do return to a couple HO scenes, especially if you have trouble searching out items for the puzzles. The items to find in the HO are not too difficult to find. The map is not automatic so you will have to click back and forth from the church, farmhouse, hotel and rock ruins.
This game was very satisfying to me as I am a HO/puzzle enthusiast type of girl. Kudos to the developers that the "sequel" was right on BFG, ready to try and buy! I can't wait to buy it and enjoy!
I recommend this game!
