The graphics are very colourful and clear to the eye. I had no trouble at all deciphering what objects were or what to do with them.
Sound was good. The music was mainly orchestral and played intermittently throughout the game. There were long periods of silence, but you will be so busy that you won't notice this too much.
The hidden object games were highly interactive straightforward and silhouette. You find one item to use to find another item, etc. These were pretty easy to do and I never got stuck in any of them.
There were a huge variety of mini-games, which I enjoyed. None of these were too hard or frustrating to do. I've seen them all before, but I was happy to do them again.
There are 34 owls to find as you are moving around. These are not hidden and you can just pick them up along the way. These are in the game only (not the bonus).
I did not need to use the interactive map at all because most tasks are done within two or three steps away. I think in the Casual and Advanced modes if you get stuck then you can look in the interactive map to see where tasks are still to do. However, Hardcore mode does not have this feature, which is my preference.
I was playing on Hardcore mode throughout the game and bonus which had Hint and Skip turned off. I just loved that. It stops me from becoming lazy if I'm unsure what to do next.
All up the game and bonus took me about 11 hours to do. Both the game and bonus are incredibly long. Thank you devs. The bonus game carries straight on from where the main game finished.
So overall, if you would like good long game with good graphics and an entertaining story line, then this is the game for you too.
~ Ring of Fire; ~ Bracelet of Growth; ~ Necklace of Cunning; and ~ Healing Sceptor.
You will be using these throughout the game and each one will glow when you need to use it.
The graphics are superb. Everywhere has lots of colour and is crystal clear. I loved going from scene to scene and just stopping to stare around for a while before undertaking any tasks.
Sound is very good. The music is beautiful and plays quietly in the background.
There are a good variety of hidden object games, some of them being straightforward and silhouette. These were great to do. They are not too hard but at the same time there is no hand holding either. There is one morphing object per HOS, so just keep an eye out for it before you finish the HOS because you can't go back and grab it in the game.
There are a huge range of mini-games to play - all of them very enjoyable and definitely not too easy. I played them all and really enjoyed them. There are a few I hadn't seen before which came as a great surprise. Well done.
I found I didn't need to use the interactive map at all because you tend to stay around the same area until all tasks are done, so there was no need to use it.
The Achievements, as usual, are hard to get. I got 70% which is about average. So I will go back into the Extras and see if I can get more.
All up the game, bonus and extras took me about 10 hours to do. Both the game and bonus are very long with lots to do, so well worth your time and money.
I really enjoyed playing this game. Its an adventure with a love story built in. Ashbringer is a real hunk and well worth saving. Definitely recommended and so worth playing.
Please enlighten me because I was roaming around wondering what to do next.
You have voiceovers (with dialogue) and you find cards to use as extra hints.
The graphics are very grainy and cluttered. At times I would be staring at the screen trying to decipher what objects were.
Sound is good. The music is very nice and plays quietly in the background.
Most of the hidden object games are putting items back where they belong. I liked doing these at first, but after I while I grew bored and stating dreading them.
The mini-games I played were all very easy and didn't take long before I moved on.
I know this is an old game, which I tried to play a few times many years ago, but ended up putting it back in my collection to play at another time because I kept getting irritated with it. I still am and now I've given up. I did play the game for about 3 hours and feel that is long enough.
This game is a little out of the norm, which attracted me to it in the beginning, but I just can't get into it.
Please trial before you buy. You may like it because it is more to your taste, but its not for everyone. Sorry.
* Voiceovers (with dialogue); * Regular, Advanced and Expert modes of play; * 10 Achievements; * Find 100 beholders; * Find parts for Tim's clock; and * Find pages for Tim's diary.
The graphics are good with plenty of colour and crisp to the eye.
Sound was good. There was just one piece of music which I turned down after a while because it was too repetitive.
The hidden objects games are slightly interactive and very easy to play. Items are clear to find and don't take long to do.
The mini-games are also very easy, however I enjoyed them. None of them were too frustrating or boring and you can get on with the game fairly quickly.
There are 100 beholders to find - mainly between 2 and 4 in each scene. Some of them are well hidden, so just keep an eye out for them. There is a caption that comes up with how many to find and then will let you know that you have found them all in each scene, so you don't have to keep looking for something that's not there.
You will also be looking for pages from Tim's diary and parts to his clock throughout the game.
All up the game took me about 5 hours to play. I wasn't playing fast and just doing a bit each night.
Overall, I enjoyed the game. There is plenty to do and lots to find. Definitely comes recommended.
Well, if you like to play fragmented (bits) HOGs, then you will love this game. I've played it a few times before on disk and decided to give it another whirl.
There are voiceovers (with dialogue) and a Journal which you will need to look at every so often go get some clues.
There are also 20 morphing objects to find which lowers the level of time for your Hint. I enjoyed looking for those, however, even today, I still only found 18 of them.
The graphics are very dark but colourful, however its not hard to roam around to find what you need. A little bit grainy but it is an old game and the later Dark Parables have come a long way graphics wise since this game.
Sound is good. The music is beautiful and quite haunting.
The fragmented HOGs are not hard to do. I just looked for anything that looked out of place if I got stuck. Most of them you can find easily enough. There are plenty of these to play, so if you are a fan of these types of HOGs, then you will be happy.
The mini-games are easy to play - memory games, slide the balls to their rightful spots, etc. I've played them all before but I liked playing them again.
Its quite a long game and I played for about 6 hours. When you finish the game, you can play again on a harder mode.
So overall, not a bad game to play. Comes recommended.
There are voiceovers (with dialogue) and a Journal which you will need to read often to get clues on what to do.
There is a map but not an interactive one.
The graphics are okay, but quite dark and cluttered. It can take a while to get through each scene and you are travelling around a lot to undertake tasks.
The music is creepy with the wind howling and footsteps in the background, etc.
The hidden object games are just awful. They are extremely cluttered and very dark and blurry, so it is hard to find items. However, if you click on a word, it will show you in the mirror what it looks like, so that helped. I did come to dread them as they took a long time to do.
The mini-games are okay. You need to switch lights on, find unique numbers, push buttons in the right sequence, etc. These were not too hard or frustrating to do.
The story line is easy to follow.
All up the game took me about 7 hours. I haven't started the bonus game yet, but I'll do that some time down the track.
Definitely trial this game first to see if it is for you.
This is the final game to the series which carries on from 'Campfires - The Baby Sitter' in which you play Lisa's younger sister. No-one knew what happened to Lisa, but you're about to find out. I was gobsmacked when I found out who it was that kidnapped Lisa and the rest of the girls and who was in league with The Hookman.
There are voiceovers in the game and you get a diary later on to help Reggie and Ashley find out what happened to Lisa and to get clues on what to do. Its easy to read and you are finding pages as you go through the game.
The graphics at the beginning are kind of gritty and dark, but you get used to it. Not all of the game is like that though. Sound is good and the music is creepy.
There are no hidden object games here, but there are plenty of mini-games which are very challenging and will take a while to do. You do have the option to skip any of them though if they are just too challenging or you want to move on. I didn't skip any but some did take me ages to do.
You collect little bugs along the way to help you if you get stuck. These are scattered around and you can collect up to 5 at a time. I must admit I did use them a couple of times when I just couldn't find something. Some of the items to find are very small or well hidden, so these do come in handy.
When you have finished the game you can play Project Stillwater which is to find 15 differences in each scene BY TORCHLIGHT. You have 5 minutes to do each scene. There are also bug hints in there as well to help you if time is getting short. When you have successfully finished one, then you can carry on with the next one and so on. I thought I was good at spotting the differences, but I only managed to find 3 in the first game in 5 minutes!!! Yikes they are hard to do. I think I'm going to be a while on those ones.
All up the main game took me about 6 hours to do. Its a very challenging game with difficult puzzles, but I really enjoyed it.
So if you love a good challenge, then this game is for you too.
I had just finished playing 'Demon Hunter - Chronicles from Beyond' which I really enjoyed, so I was excited to play this game, which carries on 20 years later.
This really is a top notch game and so worth playing. There is:
* Voiceovers (with dialogue); * Regular, Advanced and Expert modes of play; * Journal; * Interactive map; * 18 Achievements (bronze, silver and gold); * Find 24 swords throughout the game.
The graphics are very colourful and crisp. Everywhere is clear to see to find objects and to undertake tasks.
Sound is good. There are about 5 different pieces of music - mainly orchestral and piano and some organ pipes.
The hidden object games are interactive straightforward, silhouette and putting items back. All HOS have morphing objects to find as well. You will do these twice. They are very clear and easy to see and each one only takes between 1-2 minutes to do. I loved doing them.
There are a good variety of mini-games ranging from easy to hard. The one I got stuck on for a while was getting through the basement door. It took me ages and when the door finally opened I leaped up and did a dance around the room!
Finding all the swords was quite challenging as some were blended well into the scenery. I just made sure I found those first before I did anything else so I wouldn't forget.
All up, the game took me about 7 hours to play on Expert mode, and not skipping any games or getting any hints.
I found I didn't need to use the interactive map because you don't head off too far and its easy to remember where tasks are to do. However, I think if I remember right that Regular and Advanced modes show in the interactive map where tasks are to do, but the Expert mode does not.
This game comes definitely recommended. A big thank you to Boris and his team for doing a brilliant job and I cannot wait for their next game to come out. Well done.
Professor Ashmore, the same man who so kindly took you in and raised you as his own has been murdered. It’s up to you to find out why, but are you prepared for what truths may be uncovered?
Now, if you love playing lots of hidden object games and mini-games, then this is the game for you. There is:
* Voiceovers (with dialogue); * Regular and Expert modes of play; * Journal; * Interactive map (which is inside the Journal); * 8 Achievements; * Collect 7 leaves, 7 cameos, 7 coins and 7 flasks; * Bonus chapter.
The graphics range from okay to good. There is plenty of colour and most of the scenes are very well done. A few scenes look a bit hand-drawn and grainy, but don't let that put you off because the game itself is very good. I didn't have any problem at all trying to make out what items were.
There are a lot, and I mean a huge, amount of hidden object games to play, which you play twice. These are slightly interactive and there are also morphing objects in there as well. The HOS don't take too long to do - I suppose a couple of minutes each. I enjoyed playing them, but I must admit I was mentally shattered when I finished the game, but I did enjoy them.
Once again, there were a huge amount of mini-games to play which ranged from quite easy to hardish. There were potions to make, turn the lights on, draw a line through the maze to get home, etc. I liked them all and didn't skip any, so they couldn't have been too hard to do.
You also have to find throughout your travels 7 leaves, cameos, coins and flasks. Most of these were easy to find, but a few were well hidden.
I did manage to get all the achievements this time (in most games I don't), however I did have to work hard to get them.
The interactive map works well. However, if you get stuck it shows a question mark in the area where tasks are still left to do.
Yes, there is a Bonus game as well, which is about an extra hour or so.
You can replay all the HOS and mini-games again, which are in the Extras.
All up the game and bonus took me a good 9 hours to do (that is playing all the mini-games etc), so very good value for money.
I'm now off to buy Part 2 of this game which came out this week.
I've tried playing this game numerous times over the last couple of years but found it too dark, jerky and slow.
The graphics in most cases are very dark and it is nearly impossible to find what you need. There were also long responses going from scene to scene, so I grew bored.
I found a lot of the items in the hidden object games just too small and hidden behind other items, so no matter where I clicked I got it wrong. Because it was too dark in some scenes I was just clicking randomly hoping to get an item. I also didn't like the clunking noise I got every time I found an item. Nah blah not for me.
Anyway I've given up half way through the game. I've tried but to no avail. Its too slow paced for me and I didn't like the dark graphics.
Please make sure you try this game before you buy.
